      You are not breaking molecular bonds by rubbing. One of the ways you can actually break the molecular bonds is by hydrolyzing some of the bonds that are already bonded. So in other words, you have to make H2O break the bond between a compound (2 or more molecules of different elements), but this only works with some compounds. Also, you can perform a dehydration reaction (removal of all water molecules) with the cologne. However... that is nearly impossible to do unless you can an expensive machine that can perform such action in a molecular level.
      Bottom line: You are not destroying the molecular bonds when rubbing the fragrance together. But rather, due to the friction that causes heat, you are altering the scent when the fragrance is barley being touched by oxygen and settling in your skin. Hope this helps :)

      Colognes are very expensive (good ones online/up market retail stores). I use a combination of cologne ,body spray (LNYX), under arm spray NIVA ,after shave cream NIVA. It produces a nice mixture smell of combined fragrances.

    I disagree with the rubbing “mistake” as well - it won’t break molecular bonds! The friction heat will activate it a bit quicker, which may activate some of the later notes, but also make it last a little shorter on your body, so use the trick wisely!

    • @williamtan9437
      @williamtan9437 3 года назад +59

      Agree. Rubbing increase evaporation which accelerates projection. It also spreads out to a larger skin surface area which can affects the longevity of the fragrance versus spraying or dabbling on the skin which is more "concentrated".
      Some perfumers claimed that rubbing perfume on the skin will damaged the scent as the molecules got "broken" down. Wao! Not sure whether these perfumers understand how chemistry works on molecular structures work!!!

    Concerning rubbing a fragrance I've made the following discovery by trying it out a good dozen of times on one wrist while not rubbing it in on the other wrist.
    Rubbed-in fragrance may alter its smell due to more of your own chemistry getting in contact with it, but it's very mild. Usually it kinda speeds up the process of getting into the middle body of the fragrance, yet in terms of altering it there's not much done, except for this speedup. I've tried this with different fragrances of different potencies (and yes, it was a pain to wait until my Versace Eros finally stopped giving off a smell so I could repeat the test) but all in all it didn't do any harm to the fragrance itself. When being a little more sweaty, it increased the effect of getting altered a little faster, but that was it. Hope this helps, I suggest trying it on your own. Personally, I like to wear only very little fragrance, in order not to be a commanding smell and letting other, ambient smells come through still, so take that into consideration. I'm usually at only a two-count on atomizer presses.

    He’s definitely right about testing before you buy. Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey is one of those frags that has a beautiful opening. I sprayed a sample bit on me and bought it on the spot. When I got home, the drydown musk note was absolutely sickeningly unbearable on my skin.
    Lesson learned.

    I have worked as a seller of shaving water and perfumes and here are tips on how to test whether the shaving water suits you or not. When you are going to test a new perfume, spray a little on the wrist (blood vein goes there) and give off heat to the perfume, let it sit for about 1 hour before you smell and see how the perfume reacts with your body's odor. This with finding new shaving water can take time, as you have to proceed in the way I just described. The difference between these shaving waters is as follows
    EdP = Eay de Parfym perfume oil strength of 10-30% and gives off odor for about 5 hours.
    EdT Eau de Toilette perfume oil strength 5-20% and emits odor for about 3 hours.
    EdC Eau de Colonge perfume strength of about 2-5% emits odor for about 1.5 hours.
    The only places you should spray the perfume are behind the ear (Here goes the main artery of the rush of the blood gives off heat) therefore you should just put the perfume here.and MAX 2 pressure. When you spray behind the ear, the scent emits well.
    Spraying on perfume elsewhere on the body is just a waste, as no stronger blood vessels go there and provide heat. The perfume will just dry in and the smell disappears.
    A man should NEVER spray his wrists as ahn should wear perfume. Only women should do this, as you as a man might have to kiss the woman's hand and then you can smell her perfume.

    Hi Antonio, "Navy" here!, medically-speaking, I recommend not to "rub fragrances in". The problem being the danger of "sensitizing" the skin lower layers (dermis) to some of the constituents of the perfume, EDT, EDC... even though one may not be allergic to the product. There is also the danger of "rubbing in" outside contaminants in some of the more delicate skin areas leading to sensitization, rashes, reactions, etc... Great videos as usual, Ciao, L

    Hey Antonio, I love your channel and it's helped me a lot over the years. I was just thinking that while your audio quality is great, you might really be able to bring out the expressions on your face and the details of the products that you talk about if you had slightly less flat lighting which kind of looks very plain. Offered humbly, thank you for all you've done for us.

    Great video. I agree with your rubbing fragrance assessment. I see it as add surface area. The only potential down side being diluting the concentration which depending on your intent could make the sent less noticeable.

  • @YouKnowWhereYouWentWrong
    @YouKnowWhereYouWentWrong 2 года назад +3

    Two things I definitely agree with you here. 1.) There are some scents that I KNOW are not appreciated by 95% who smell them, so I only wear them at home, much like one might light a candle or burn incense just because they like the smell. And 2) while I was once told by a guy at a fragrance shop to 'spray, delay and walk away' scents are meant to be sprayed directly on the skin where the skin is warmer. Great video.

      It helps if you simply don't care. I wear my scents, and I have about 50, 35 or so that I love. I wear them first and foremost for myself, because I love the performance and scent. If someone does like it, tough shit, whip my ass and make me stop wearing it. Otherwise step aside Hater.

    I often smell the cologne projecting from pilots as far as several meters away. They get enclosed in their own space away from the passengers though, and airliner cockpits often smell very mechanical so I think it's good on them to have a scent that masks the airplane smell. Long-haul flights also mean not being able to shower for over 18 hours so having the scent strong at first is good, so it can wear off over time and be present but minimal by the time they emerge from the cockpit to bid the passengers farewell. For myself, I am an aircraft fueler, working in enclosed spaces with the smell of jet fuel permeating everything. I am often the recipient of remarks about my jet fuel smell in the cockpit while I am getting the pilot's signature on the sales receipt. So, I have just placed an order for Jean Paul Gaultier "Aviator", an Eau-De-Toilette which I hope will fit in with the aromas around the airport without overpowering it for those who enjoy the smell of an airport/airplane. Since my jet fuel smell is particularly strong, I think I may need to be one of those who uses double the recommended dose.

    I think the point of the atomizer on fragrance bottles is to separate the different notes to make them more distinctive. If you rub your wrists together then you might not be destroying the molecules but you would meld the more delicate scents with the stronger ones.

    • @ayporos
      @ayporos Год назад
