So definitely at some stage they teach it and it is documented otherwise how could she come to know of these facts that she talks about in her shorts. That means there are books that some experts historians have written them . many people have researched on this topic. It is not a secret, never was. If a common man can find it and make shorts that means it is researched and documented well.

Same pain I felt as a Tamilan, when central government exam questions and history books still teaching Velu Nachiyar is Jhansi Rani of South India.
Where Velu Nachiyar won the war against the Britishers took her land back but Jhansi Rani defeated and died in battle field. Jhansi Rani opposed Britishers for salary hike then it turned out into freedom movement.
I have huge respect on Jhansi Rani, but our ancestors didn't get that much recognition.
Especially, timeline is huge difference here. Velu Nachiyar ruled her Kingdom and died. Jhansi Rani was born after 86 years.

As a tamilian I too feel sad on the ignorance of north people. They are implanted that north constitute India. We in south have great literature, architecture and culture. As Indians we must be all inclusive. As said the south is used for employment and tax collection only. Even the right share is not passed to them on central schemes. Everything end at vote and ruling. TN reproduce 1.3 children per couple. Meaning we are shrinking to help the nation. But Bihar reproduces 4 per couple and UP 3.5. Where is education and development. What a sad state. For helping the nation we are punished with reduced MPs

Actually, it is not about who existed earlier. Shakespeare was actually more famous worldwide while Kalidasa's popularity remained till India. It was probably because of language or famous but since Shakespeare was more famous than Kalidasa so we call Kalidasa the Shakespeare of India as a token of appreciation.❤
Edit: People are misinterpreting me. I wanted to say that we are running after such trivial matters like names which arent even based on bad intentions but appreciation. Instead of this shouldn't we think about changing the entire education system which is based on British? It is okay to learn Kalidasa recognizing as Shakespeare of India because we are studying everything according to the British' point if view. And they do not know who the legend Kalidasa is! We should not blame the books about what's written but us and the education system for what we study and what is being taught. I hope you understand my point!

Silly. Your reference point is your own .the west’s reference point is it’s own. Outside of our reference points we can make no comparison that would be understood by the public. Look at it this way. We have one Shakespeare in the west to compare with. The east, far older in the use of drama , and literary arts has hundreds maybe thousands of reference points. You have great playwriting , authors all over the place. In Cambodia, China, India,Thailand etc.influenced heavily by India. So why the whining.? The difference is in the performance. East and west plays and dances are far different.. in the East there is always the element of the sacred. Not so in the west. The iconography , symbolism is quite different and vey foreign to the west. A Noh play would not be so well understood internationally. Shakespeare and his themes and presentations can be understood because they were written for the common people .we have a plethora of God, Goddesses, supernatural and royal beings littered within Eastern plays. I have read both east and west as have I read ancient and modern
My reference is still Shakespeare. Not because he’s white English or western. But because he touches many peoples with a common touch that is both beautiful and forthright, and I like him. It’s simple if you don’t throw politics and victimhood into every situation.

@@Keerthihistory This makes sense sister. Actually, the characters of ancients history lost recognition with the passage of time. Their stories were rediscovered recently to strengthen the basis of modern nationalism.
History of India is quite fascinating. Indians have many heroes of past and have made many scientific discoveries. Though I'm a Pakistani Muslim, I accept those contributions.
Infact, India, Egypt and Greece were great civilizations of the BCE.
However, the history was lost during 5th and 6th century. I blame Indians for that. They betrayed their history and heroes and divided India into many empires. In 8-13th centuries, more stable Muslim empires were established in India. Hindus couldn't protect their history and it lost all it's recognition.
18-19th century was the time colonial nations dominated the world.
20th century transformed world into a global village, in which Europe was seen as epitome of development. European heroes and culture got much recognition.
Since European heroes are more popular worldwide, every culture compares their heroes with that of Europe.
I think this makes sense. You paint a wonderful picture and lock it up in home. Then you shouldn't complain about it having no popularity.

@@avdheshpainuly7865 The comparison of Kalidasa with Shakespeare and Samudragupta with Napoleon is not meant to be a literal comparison of their lifetimes or historical context. Rather, it is based on their respective artistic and military accomplishments, which have earned them a place of great cultural and historical significance in their respective countries.
Kalidasa's works, such as the plays "Abhijnanasakuntalam" and "Vikramorvasiyam," are revered for their poetic beauty, philosophical depth, and insight into human nature. Shakespeare's works are celebrated for their poetic language, complex characters, and exploration of universal themes. Similarly, Samudragupta is remembered for his military conquests and expansion of his empire across much of northern India. Napoleon is known for his military campaigns across Europe and his efforts to modernize France through social reforms.
So, while the comparisons are not be strictly chronological, but they are intended to highlight the significant cultural and historical contributions of these individuals in their respective societies. Living before one, or the factors of colonisation are not relevant here. when studing about the impacts of both societies, the naming makes sense.

To be true the impact began with the theory of India as it was called a land which flourishes with richness and contentment. Explaining the second part, Napoleon is one of the greatest military generals of all time. He took a weak France and became the master of Europe. Samadragupta was also great but Napoleon as a military general was way better. The comparison specifies that samadragupta as a military general is almost as good as Napoleon

Inspite of having great knowledge and coming before Shakespeare Kalidas did not get famous worldwide. Shakespeare is a worldwide famous that's why people introduce Kalidas as a Indian Shakespeare. But if we ignore our heritage and just running behind western side this is really bad. It's not always British, sometimes we need to change our mindsets.🙇
