The Panasonic thing is 100% product placement, that includes all the TVs seen in the movie. I remember there was some JP/Panasonic marketing material irl as well!
I would love to see how those Apple machines were supposedly hooked up in universe, like in a haynes manual or something. Also I love this truck and your work so much and silicone molding an original part from the film is just awesome on top of awesome.
Unsolicited suggestion… in the booting program instead of having it show Panasonic touch screen enabled maybe read Error or disabled because on the actual build the screen is not actually touch sensitive
for the rest of my life it'll drive me nuts trying to find what they modified to make the mold for that thing. the closest i ever got was a small Technics shelf stereo which looked similar in terms of whoever the designer was.
I just assumed the smaller LED on the movie props lower half was a kensington lock originally on whatever they molded it from and it would be weird to keep that feature but I guess it was just an extra led. it was also the oval bump in the center of the bottom unit too that made me thing they molded around something that had a button. Panasonic was deep into interactive CD at the time. And I can very easily see why they would sponser the inclusion of something like this. I DI think that panasonic at least had to sign off on this design before putting their name on it which might possibly mean it could just be a direct mold of one of their i'm sure dozens of designs for possible hardware. kinda like how we can see how many design today companies go through to make game controllers , maybe this was just one that was in the middle.
The small red LED looks like a steady-burn power indicator to me. The other two seem like the would be activity lights (top for the CD-ROM read, the bottom for the hard drive activity). Maybe the oval bump was intended to be the badge/branding initially? Seems like it would have been a good spot for it, but possibly too small to show up on screen for the sponsorship. Yeah! I'm surprised they didn't make it more 3DO-like, definitely relevant for the time.
I notice the colour difference between the screen used part and the one you made off of it. In your version, the top drive seems a bit more of a neutral/primer grey, and the lower portion a slightly darker grey. In the screen used part, the upper is a more beige, and the lower a more primer grey. Then there is the metallic strips in the space in between (I was considering using some metallic tape used for securing dryer vents in mine). Is the one you made off-colour, or has the SU one faded with age? As always, thank you for sharing all this info. Your videos have been an invaluable resource in building my own JP Explorer.
The metallic strips are interesting. They are not in every shot of the movie. Not sure why. Yep, the SU has faded unfortunately. Thanks for watching, glad to help!
I also feel compelled to ask if you still have the mold you made off the SU part. If so, would you be willing to make additional resin copies from it? I'd buy one in an instant. The resin copies I have now were sculpted by eye, and 3d printed for molding. EDIT: This applies to the comfort control panel as well.
do you happen to have an email that I can get in contact with you with? I happen to live in the area and also have a 1993 ford explorer and would love to chat about what and where I can find parts and other general techniques you used to build your ford, my dad is a mechanic in the national guard and wants to help me with this project, he found your channel and even ran into you in the Longwood area, I got a picture to prove it lol, anyways I hope you can get to me, and thanks for any help!!!!!
@@cyrix9445 When exactly and where exactly is that going to be? i tried to email you but never got a reply, no big deal just wanted to know when and where that's gonna be thanks! id love to go and bring my ford
Why is everything about the tour car so beautiful
Spared no expense.

Really well done! I love the detail and effort put into that!

Welcome back.
Glad to see you are still around! good luck with the project
Even more rare than the Panasonic Q.

I might just do that! If I can ever find a slick touch overlay for a 9" CRT, maybe I could "re-enable" it.

Right?? It's possible that it's just completely made up. It wouldn't be too hard to mill a custom piece, like they did for the Barbasol can.

Wait? Did you get the actual prop that was in one of the explorers? That’s the way it sounds
Yep!

I'll eventually release a pre-rendered video capture version on RUclips, I just have to wrap up a few things!
@@cyrix9445 that would be awesome. I would love it to drive with my car around and listen to the original jp tour program
How long did it take you to find all these individual parts?
I started collecting parts in 2008.
