  • Muara Tebas in Kuching is best known for its seafood restaurants. However, this small fishing village is also home to the beautiful Ching San Yen Temple. The temple gets especially crowded during Chinese New Year when Buddhist residents come together to pray.
Ching San Yen Temple is open to the public for free. It may take at least 30 minutes to explore the temple. Putting on sun lotion or carrying an umbrella when visiting the temple on a sunny day is advisable -- it can get quite hot in the area. After exploring the temple, stop by one of the seafood restaurants to fuel up.
    Getting there:
Muara Tebas is accessible by car. Visitors can also take a bus from the Kuching open-air market for only RM1.
Note: I visited the temple in the morning around 11 am just before lunchtime. Then, I had lunch at the seafood restaurant for about an hour before catching the bus back to Kuching between 1 and 1:30 pm.
