Boy, what an amazing individual this guy was and still is, assuming he's alive. Voight also did an incredible job of portraying him here. But how the real Conroy reached these kids and helped them the way he did is beyond amazing. It just blows me away that he was able to do this. I can't even imagine being able to influence like this.
The scenes of Beaufort SC where actually shot in Brunswick GA where I grew up. Some of the kids I went to school with were cast in the movie as students. I remember them shooting the scene where he drives down the street talking through his microphone. My brother and I got to meet him and he invited us over for a coke. Jon Voight was a pretty cool guy in the 70's.
22:30 “But I KNOW you love the babies!” Ugh this line gets me every time, it’s what I remember most about the movie. When you realize that someone you’ve been at such odds with actually does understand something real about you.
25:13, that is my grandfather playing the judge. As the story goes, he was a justice of the peace at the time in Georgia, and he agreed to let them film in his courtroom if they would let him play the judge.
I love the idea of a creative white school teacher teaching disadvantaged black children both the basics along with art and music appreciation!!! This is a great movie!!!
Outstanding show. Jon Voight should have won an Oscar for this movie. Thank you for uploading.
Absolutely. He should have won it.
