"Bella ciao" ist ein Lied, das in der Version der italienischen Partisanen im Zweiten Weltkrieg bekannt wurde. Es entwickelte sich zu einer der "Hymnen" der antifaschistischen, anarchistischen, kommunistischen und sozialdemokratischen Bewegungen.
Die Melodie des Liedes Bella ciao in der Mondine-Version wurde bereits Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts von den Reispflückerinnen der ehemaligen italienischen Provinz Terre d’Acqua in der Nähe der Stadt Bologna gesungen. Es beklagt die harten Arbeitsbedingungen unter der stechenden Sonne. Bereits die erstmals 1906 dokumentierte Fassung trägt die Züge eines Protestliedes gegen den Chef, der „mit einem Stock in der Hand“ die Arbeit überwacht, das Leben der Frauen „aufzehrt“ und obendrein wenig zahlt. Doch eines Tages, so hofft die Erzählerin, werden die Frauen „in Freiheit“ arbeiten.
Weltweit bekannt wurde das Lied in seiner Adaption durch die Resistenza, die italienische Widerstandsbewegung gegen den Faschismus während des Zweiten Weltkrieges. Der Text, dessen Autor unbekannt ist, lobt den Freiheitskampf der Partisanen und gedenkt ihrer Toten, die als Helden betrachtet werden. Das Lied gehört in linken Kreisen zu den bekanntesten Kampfliedern und wird noch heute von ihnen dem faschistischen Kampflied Faccetta nera entgegengesetzt. Wie viele Lieder der Arbeiterbewegung wurde es in zahlreiche Sprachen übersetzt.
Das Lied wurde 1964 auf dem Festival von Spoleto aufgeführt und erreichte dadurch einen neuen Popularitätsschub. Zugleich gab es den Ausschlag zu einer Neuorientierung der folkloristischen Musik Italiens. Im Jahr 2015 bildete sich in Anlehnung an das Festival ein Projekt, das 2021 das Album A Sud di Bella Ciao herausgab.
Der italienische Autor und Filmemacher Dario Fo sang das Lied 2013 bei der Beerdigung seiner Frau Franca Rame. Im Jahr 2016 wurde das Lied dann bei Fos eigener Beerdigungsfeier gespielt.

"Bella ciao" is a song that became famous in the Italian partisans' version during World War II. It developed into one of the "hymns" of the anti-fascist, anarchist, communist and social democratic movements.
The melody of the song Bella ciao in the Mondine version was already sung at the beginning of the 20th century by the rice pickers of the former Italian province of Terre d'Acqua near the city of Bologna. It complains about the harsh working conditions under the blazing sun. The version, first documented in 1906, already has the characteristics of a protest song against the boss, who monitors the work “with a stick in his hand,” “consumes” the women's lives and, on top of that, pays little. But one day, the narrator hopes, the women will work “in freedom.”
The song became known worldwide in its adaptation by the RESISTISA, the Italian resistance movement against fascism during the Second World War. The text, whose author is unknown, praises the partisans' fight for freedom and remembers their dead, who are considered heroes. The song is one of the best-known fight songs in left-wing circles and is still opposed by them today to the fascist fight song Faccetta nera. Like many songs of the labor movement, it has been translated into numerous languages.
The song was performed at the Spoleto Festival in 1964 and achieved a new surge in popularity. At the same time, it was the decisive factor in a reorientation of Italian folk music. In 2015, a project was formed based on the festival and released the album A Sud di Bella Ciao in 2021.
Italian author and filmmaker Dario Fo sang the song at his wife Franca Rame's funeral in 2013. Then in 2016, the song was played at Fo's own funeral service.

"Bella ciao" è una canzone divenuta famosa nella versione dei partigiani italiani durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e divenuta uno degli "inni" dei movimenti antifascisti, anarchici, comunisti e socialdemocratici.
La melodia della canzone Bella ciao nella versione Mondine era già cantata all'inizio del XX secolo dalle raccoglitrici di riso dell'ex provincia italiana di Terre d'Acqua vicino alla città di Bologna. Si lamenta delle dure condizioni di lavoro sotto il sole cocente. La versione, documentata per la prima volta nel 1906, ha già le caratteristiche di un canto di protesta contro il padrone, che controlla il lavoro “con un bastone in mano”, “consuma” la vita delle donne e, per di più, paga poco. Ma un giorno, spera il narratore, le donne lavoreranno “in libertà”.
La canzone divenne nota in tutto il mondo grazie all'adattamento del RESISTISA, il movimento di resistenza italiano contro il fascismo durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Il testo, di cui non si conosce l'autore, inneggia alla lotta per la libertà dei partigiani e ricorda i loro morti, considerati eroi. La canzone è una delle canzoni di lotta più conosciute negli ambienti di sinistra e ancora oggi viene contrapposta alla canzone di lotta fascista Faccetta nera. Come molte canzoni del movimento operaio, è stata tradotta in numerose lingue.
La canzone fu eseguita al Festival di Spoleto nel 1964 e ottenne una nuova ondata di popolarità. Allo stesso tempo, fu il fattore decisivo nel riorientamento della musica popolare italiana. Nel 2015 nasce un progetto basato sul festival e nel 2021 pubblica l'album A Sud di Bella Ciao.
L'autore e regista italiano Dario Fo ha cantato la canzone al funerale di sua moglie Franca Rame nel 2013. Poi nel 2016, la canzone è stata suonata al servizio funebre di Fo.
