Starting Point: goo.gl/maps/ALSzDHzfy7G2 .
Stamford is a city in Fairfield County, Connecticut, United States. Stamford is home to four Fortune 500 Companies,[2] nine Fortune 1000 Companies, and 13 Courant 100 Companies, as well as numerous divisions of large corporations. This gives Stamford the largest financial district in New York Metro outside New York City itself and one of the largest concentrations of corporations in the nation.
Economy
Among the larger companies with headquarters in Stamford are Vineyard Vines, WWE, Tasty Bite, Pitney Bowes, Gen Re, Frontier Communications, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, Crane Co., and Charter Communications. UBS also has its North American headquarters here and its trading floor holds the Guinness World Record as the largest column-less trading floor in the world. The Royal Bank of Scotland moved its North American operations into Stamford in 2009, including its RBS Greenwich Capital subsidiary.[14]
In recent years, many large corporations have moved offices outside of the city due to the high rental cost, including Xerox, MeadWestvaco, International Paper, GE Capital, NBC, and Clairol. The Harbor Point development, located in the South End, is one of the largest private-sector development projects in the United States.[15] Many large retail stores, such as Design within Reach and Fairway Market have moved in, along with multiple hedge funds.
History
In the 1960s and 1970s, Stamford's commercial real estate boomed as corporations relocated from New York City to peripheral areas.[5] A massive urban redevelopment campaign during that time resulted in a downtown with many tall office buildings. The F.D. Rich Co. was the city-designated urban renewal developer of the downtown in an ongoing redevelopment project that was contentious, beginning in the 1960s and continuing through the 1970s. The company put up what was the city's tallest structure, One Landmark Square, at 21 floors high, and the GTE building (now One Stamford Forum), along with the Marriott Hotel, the Stamford Town Center and many of the other downtown office buildings. One Landmark Square has since been dwarfed by the new 35-story Trump Parc condominium tower (topped out), and soon by the 400-foot 39 story Ritz Carlton Hotel and Residences development, another project by the Rich Company in partnership with Cappelli Enterprises.[6] Over the years, other developers have joined in building up the downtown, a process that continued, with breaks during downturns in the economy, through the 1980s, 1990s and into the new century.

I'm from Stamford! Walked that down town area many times, with friends going to the mall.. just hanging out.. Great memories!
I know its old, but very nice video! Brings back plenty of great memories!!! Stamford!!! What a great city!
Good old memories when I lived in Stamford now I live in Guatemala :(
Wow! I remember taking the bus from Darien to Stamford as an 11-year-old schoolgirl, taking sewing lessons in a building downtown during the summer of 1958, and going to Woolworth's and the shoe store nearby with my best friend. We even lived on Summer Street for a short time in 1964-65. My mother worked in a travel agency near there (close to Spring St.). I don't even know if the building we lived in (#700) is still there; I don't think you passed by that area. It really looks nice now. I remember narrower streets and smaller buildings.
700 Summer Street is still here. I'm inside it as I type this.
@@chrisg1957 Thank you. It was a long time ago and I've always wondered, especially since I'm nowhere near there now.
Which parts of the city still look the same today?
My hometown sure ain't the same.
I was born and raised in Stamford..I miss it
Marcstang04 where in Stamford are you from. I was born at Fairfield court...than moved to Springdale and finally the cove

I love Stamfor with all my heart.
I'm surprised your video was that long. I grew up in Stamford for 25 years. Went to school there from elementary to High School. It's not a very large downtown area. There used to be a lot of mom and pop stores downtown, but once they built the mall , downtown became like a ghost town. I miss Stamford many fond memories there, but the housing costs became sky high, since commuters from New York moved there.
I was born and raised in Stamford too! I remember going to Woolworth's with my Mom. Good memories!
What school
It's such a cool idea! Thanks J!!
I miss you Stamford CT
Gosh, this brings back so many wonderful memories for me. I was born and raised in Stamford. Most of it still looks the same, but I see a lot of newer buildings. UCONN used to be a Bloomingdales store, and the Burlington store used to be a CALDOR store, LOL. McDonald's has been there since forever! The Landmark Square has been there since the 1970s. I used to walk through a short cut with my friends and there used to be a movie theatre there and downstairs, there was the "passage shops". I'm not sure if they are there anymore. They had a skating rink in front of the plaza and in the summer month's, they had tennis courts. There used to be a restaurant called "Ground Round" back in the 1980s. I would eat there with my family and friends. I see the old Woolworth's store is now a Furniture store. Many stores have come and gone. I have fond memories of going to Woolworth's with my Mom. Those were the days! Curley's diner has been a downtown landmark for as long as I can remember. I used to work right downtown. It's a small downtown and easy to get around by foot. I remember when the Mall (town center) opened, it was a really big deal. Stamford has certainly changed a lot over the past 30+ years! Me and all my family have since moved away. It got way too expensive and developed. A lot of good companies moved into the area and Stamford is a nice bedroom community and easy commute to NYC. I recognize the Post Office and the Town Hall. The Avon theatre still looks the same! LOL
ToonieMama All the places you mentioned are bringing back fond memories. Yeah I remember the Bloomingdales there on the corner. Speaking of Caldor's ( that's going way back) that was the first job I ever had when I was 16. I went to Stamford High School ( go Black Knights) and after school I'd walk down Bedford street to Caldor. Those were the days. And I used to go ice skating ⛸ at Landmark square all the time. I saw a lot of movies at the Avon theater. We probably lived there at about the same time.
The video was awesome Have not been in stamford since about about 1970/ Thanks.
Que cidade linda ótima pra umas férias 😍😍😍

Thank you for the video.. Stamford sure has changed.. I was glad to see DQ is still there.. Bedford Street looks the same too.
Man I thought the same thing. The church in the beginning, McDonald's on the corner, and then saw DQ, And was like holy hell!!! And the Avon theatre.
Well done! Thank you for doing this. I'd like to see a drive up to Bull's Head, continue up High Ridge Road and/or Long Ridge Road, and then get on the Merritt Parkway. Love your steady camera work. You might want to consider adding a soundtrack. Finding the right mood for the music could be really challenging, though.
Nice Video, thank you for sharing , Stamford is to crowded now. was nicer in the past !
Thanks for the upload !! XD
I was born in saint johns hospital. I went to Stamford ,and rippawam high. Family moved from Ireland in the mid 1800

Great video! Haven´t been back to Stamford in over 20 years.

@@SamuelDuplessis12 wwe?😂😂😂
@@theforcelockgamer2972 I mean, there's literally nothing else Stamford is known for than the E.

Stamford is really nice
Expensive too.
you should do St. Louis, MO. It has some really beautiful neighborhoods like the Central West End, and really old historical, dense areas on the Southside.
Thanks for the request :)
I like Stamford but very expensive to live
Good to know, I was thinking about study English there. Can you give me any advice?
@@brenamorcerf6849 New Haven, CT is cheaper
@@brenamorcerf6849 Mometh is right and it's the same train line that goes through Stamford right to NYC.
Not if you have section 8. If you have section 8 Stamford is heaven.
My old stopping ground the village , Henry st old cloonan I miss it
revisit, new buildings everywhere
Oh yeah don't forget Jerry Springer,Maury, and Steve Wilkos shows are taped in Stamford. You can see the theater at 19:35 into the video. Look on the right side, you'll see the sign that says #youknowyouwatch.
pacluv The studio was also shown at the beginning of the video. I'm watching Steve Wilkos Show while watching this video lol.
The last move I saw at the Palace Theater was Diamonds are Forever.
Driving up and down the same roads. Really stretching this video out for 22 mins. Wow
Great mems
Wish i was tgere now grew up in Old Greenwich but walked to downtown many times
Stamford is bigger and nicer than I thought it would be.
Torontopia it's growing rapidly
I think it has the most fortune 500 companies outside of Manhattan. There are even wall streets around...
L.like.that.good.thanks
I livr in stamford
You should do a updated video
I'm from Stamford CT, the West Side to be exact.
Me too!
@@catherinetelesco2767 nice. People have gotten really stuck up in Stamford.
It is not anything like it used to be, so sad.
@@catherinetelesco2767 overrun with New Yorkers.
Yup! I have a cousin who has lived in San Francisco for years and is unhappy with the rich kids who have moved there and taken over.
jesus, was this recorded over the weekend? i love it! why are your streets so clean? in nyc, you cant even fart with so many people around, and it smells like piss and shit everywhere and there's homeless bums everywhere. i think i'm willing to take a pay cut and move to stamford. my nerves are shot living in nychitty. the noise, polution, and lack of any green space (except for having one giant park where only billionaires live) makes living here miserable.
Stamford high school- class of 85
I live there :D
I'm from Bridgeport Connecticut and i would like to move out there .
roads condition like in Odessa /Ukraine/
....and huge lot of hatches XD
Stamford has buildings, that it was just a rich ass area full of mansions honestly😂
Akko is my Daughter Have you seen Greenwich?
Bedford st. The old avon theatre...on route to court if you take a right at florist...
hi there - how do I get in touch with you about this video?
It's changed a lot since I was there. No more Delaney's,no more Villa old man bar,no more Bedford Records.I guess things change. Is the bagel place still there in Bull's Head?
Yessss it is! Been there this year around June.
Where is iconic UBS building. Or I missed it.
You should do Hartford, CT
What's amazing is no one mentioned Paul Newman or Dave Letterman...
That's because most people associate Stamford with WWE.
Letterman lived in New Canaan; Newman lived in Westport (which is where Martha Stewart lives). Gene Wilder was a longtime Stamford resident.
The name of the city is Stamford not Stamfor or Stanford. Spelling counts!
Esse prédio da tumb do vídeo é o prédio de eu a patroa e as crianças
Didn't Mort Walker live here along with Ann McCooey (Ethel Kennedy's) sister?
moving from agusta ga to Stamford ct I hope I'm not making a big mistake
Tinah Lee Don't go to Cummings beach and you'll be fine
Bee Guy Lol that's the truth. That used to be nice when I was growing up there. Now I wouldn't even stick my big toe in that water. If that's what you can call it.
Have you moved to Stamford yet? How do you like it?
I love Stamford. I also agree with what Bee guy said.
Jerry Springer works there
como se llama la iglesia que pasa al principio??
St. John's Catholic.
I never understood the purpose of that traffic light at 8:48
krogdog For pedestrians to cross the street.
@LittleRockElevators Possibly but why the zebra crossing is located before the traffic light?
I know it seems like it's out of place, but I think if you look on the right side there is an office building there. It's probably for when they get of from work that there is some flow to merge on the street, or else it would take forever to enter onto the street. It's like merging onto the highway you know how some people will not let you enter in front of them even though they can't go anywhere because of the traffic ahead.
Whereabouts is the "WWE Headquarters?" Beautiful town, looks like a town from the "colonial days!"
off exit 9 i95......search brock lesnar destroys tripple h office
Too bad you didn't do any narration. You seemed to be just aimlessly driving around.
Looks like CURLEYS diner is gone, bet they wish they had it now
Curley's is alive and well.

How are the coust of live in stamford?
the cost of living is very high there because it is so close to New York City people actually commute to New York everyday from Stamford it is only about an hour each way
About $2000 😬 Very expensive for a one bedroom
@@yourlittlesecret7575 that sounds about right
Would this be the best place to live if, Im a black male?
Yes this place is mad diverse
American downtown all look similar
no one in the streets, looks like a ghost town
Vitor Lucas Well what do you expect, it's not New York City. And it depends on the time of day. Most people are at work.
pacluv yeah, my city has only 160 thousand people and is always full of life in the parks, by those people who do not work all day (Young people, etc) May be a cultural thing, the weather here does help a lot for people to use the public space
Victor Lucas what city is this ?
