I was smoking a pack of cigaretters a day for 30 years, drive old cars and didnt like cycling because i couldnt ride more than a couple of kilometres before i was coughing, i quit smoking, bought my a bike, rode it a LOT, 1 year later i rode 300km in 13 hours, this year i rode the same 300km and was barely over 10hours.... i guess cycling saved from serious diseases that will come with smoking....I really love my bike :)
I've been watching this before every single ride I do. It's been 6 years since I stumbled upon this video. Thank you for giving me the drive I've needed. Cycling is my life. I wouldn't have it any other way.
Nice video. After losing all my friends that used to ride with me I didn't want to ride anymore. This video you posted helped me get back on my bike to ride by myself to get faster.
I'm in the same boat, all my old cycling friends have fallen away from the sport. I'm still riding and racing despite having lost a good bit of lung capacity to disease. Sometimes the pain is just excruciating from the lack of O2 from my screwed up lungs but I love riding too much to stop.
Roberts Blums No I'm just desperate to hold onto as much lung function as I can , I'm just desperate to hold onto as much of my life as I can. It is so hard and so much work at times to just keep what lung function I've got.
Roberts Blums Okay this is complicated - I have a condition called "Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis." It's an active infection of the lung/lungs by an aspergillus organism( a fungus) and the kicker is I am very allergic to the fungus in my lungs. This allergy to the fungus used to result in violent and severe bronchial asthma attacks. We're talking the kind of asthma attacks that are severe enough to kill you. Ever been suffocated - that's what happens in a bad asthma attack. In addition the fungus infection lead to numerous secondary pnuemonias that resulted in much scar tissue and damage to my bronchial tubes and lungs. This condition went undiagnosed for years. I learned to live with constant pain and diminished lung capacity. The pulmonologists (idiots) missed the diagnosis thinking that I had an allergy to our cats. Finally a good old boy country Doctor from S. Louisiana a graduate of LSU made the correct diagnosis and got me on some pretty powerful anti-fungals bringing the infection under semi-control. But I'll never be cured the fungus is always waiting and sometime it does come back. It addition the fungus will block up the small airways in my lungs and one of the best ways to blow out the obstructions is to ride hard and ride long. So between hard riding and good meds I get to live a kinda normal life, but I'll never be the cyclist I was.
I am recovering from a heart attack at the moment. I hadn’t been on my bike since 2016, and my health had spiralled downwards. Watching these videos is really helping me to work towards getting back on the saddle. Thank you ❤
Your video is right on point. Thank you for posting this. I have not been able to ride due to health issues and I miss the road dearly. Every time I feel a little down, this video just makes things better. Thank you! Keep up the great work.
saved this, and watch over and over, show people who i think need to watch it, hoping they get it. it helps me, it lifts me, i get it, thank you, my bike has always been my motivation to live well, with this it helps me focus, thank you.
I’ve been listening to this video since 2014 during times of adversity. Through major cycling injuries, failure, loss of job, getting rid of bad company. I used to ride 200 miles in a day with epic elevation. Today I can only ride 10 to 15 miles. But I’m still peddling.
You feel like taking your bike out and ride right after watching it. Its awesome !!. I have got this video converted into an audio file and have in playlist while I am riding, listening over and over.
oh my god thanks you so much i was disappointed because i have to wait an "i dont know period" to a have a gooo bike and think i'd lost interest of cycling but i saw this and had tears ,tears that showed me i love cycling, tears that showed me i have to keep cycling in the good direction the direction of the future. Every time we ride ,every meters ,every second is one more step for your future health : NEVER GIVE UP GUYS ,NEVER GIVE UP !
IVE BEEN KNOCKED DOWN SEVERAL TIMES, CURRENTLY SET BACK TO ZERO THANKS TO MY EX WIFE - but I get up and push everyday no matter what for my two kids and my passion of cycling and running help me to deal with the stress. thank you for this video

JDCyclingBE This video is brilliant, really enjoy the voice overs, it's powerful and put's things into perspective, I'm 24 and have started cycling again, cannot stop watching this!
***** My longest ride this year is 198km. I'm a competitive cyclist and already stopped my season because of injuries. Now i'm preparing for season 2016 to go hard! :)

Powerful video! Insanely in encouraging and inspiring. Loved how you married the footage with the highs and lows of the music and you perfectly placed the encouraging statements. Almost lost it when the guy gave the push. Steve Jobs, Les Brown and who else?
It is unbelievable, unexpected vid. and I am impressed and moved from your vid. These days I'm having hard time, but this gives me a real motivation. Thank you. Amigo.

Why wouldn't you race at 34? (Though you're obviously a bit older now). The veterans category doesn't start until aged 40.
