Bill Kirchen is the King of Dieselbilly guitar. Kirchen is teaching the secrets of the telecaster to folk artist Marcy Marxer as part of the Maryland Traditions project.
I saw Bill playing with Commander Cody back in the '70s in a small dance hall. It was the most fun show I have ever been to. It was a collection of really talented musicians who combined musical excellence with great humour. That was a truly great band and Bill's guitar playing was front and center. It's nice to see him enjoying a long and happy career. I've been working on his TrueFire course. It's not easy! He's a great guitar player.
Hey Bill Kirken. I'm Eric Heine from Sky Blue Studios at 128 4th Street in Sonoma California. I worked for Chris and Joanne Hackney. I wrote lyrics some of which you purchased from Chris-1973 maybe 1974. Nice to see you're doing well.
There is something about a Telecaster. Whenever I'm just sitting on my couch watching TV, I'll reach for the tele. Even if I don't plug it in, there are amazing licks and riffs that come right out, even if I'm just noodling around. I have to work hard to elicit the same thing from my Strats or my Les Paul (or I have to be running thru an amp). The Telecaster is a magical thing!
This was great, thanks to whoever produced this. I saw Bill perform in Forth Worth last December, he did a bunch of (mostly) obscure Christmas songs diesel-billy style, truly impressive player and showman.
I saw Bill about three years ago in NOLA in a small bar/club. Packed house as he did Bob Dylan 's entire Highay 61 Revisited album. Guy can perform *still*.

They say if a guitar sounds, resonates and plays great unplugged ....then you will have a great instrument from the start.
Two amazing players pictured.... I would have loved to hear you two jam.
