9:17 There IS a situation that occasionally comes up when a nat 20 doesn't critically succeed, which is when someone attacks with the Multiple Attack Penalty, especially with a -10. But i play so much with Foundry that i forget that it figures this out for me :D
Good point! My players have mostly gotten out of the habit of using that third action to strike, but for any newcomers seeing this, taking that -10 is definitely a place where you could encounter the Nat 20 not critting even when facing like-leveled enemies.
I'm a Pathfinder GM. Your content is the best. Some things you could have mentioned: First, Pathfinder 2e scales to higher levels much better than 5e. I have run multiple level 1-20 campaigns using published Adventure Paths and it remained challenging for my players without becoming too hard. Second, the published Adventure Paths are great and are straightforward to run. Your videos do a good job of pointing out trouble areas. Third, the character customization options in PF2e are endless, particularly if you use the Free Archetype variant, and having something to choose for your PC at every level adds a lot of enjoyment and anticipation to leveling up. Fourth, I would like to emphasize that Archives of Nethys has all the rules/spells/classes/etc and is free to use (although I make a monthly donation to keep it running). Fifth, there are frequent HumbleBundles where you can pick up PDF versions of the core books for pennies on the dollar and help a good cause at the same time.
THE best part about PF2 is character customization hands down. I hate to bash any system, especially because D&D is where I started 30ish years ago, but there's almost no real customization in the current version of D&D.
This is valuable for pathfinder 2 folks too! I think most PF2 players/DMs are familiar with the idea of there being multiple rules systems but DnD players aren’t. They may know intellectually but have never experienced another ttrpg system. It’s a bit of system shock. Dave kind of aludes to at the beginning but a good understanding on the PF2 side is probably necessary to help people migrate without unnecessary stress.
Thank you for the video! Our group is working on a system agnostic TTRPG world setting. We're developing for any level of complexity. But we love crunch & detail but not so much bogging the game down.
This video was GOLD! I immediately shared it with my audience on RUclips and my personal gaming group. Thanks so much for all you do to make PF2e accessible to new players!
This is great! Still relatively new to Pathfinder, so 5e rules still interfere sometimes, when I try to remember how some things work. But so far, I like Pathfinder much better.
Great video with tons of info. I think it’s more accurate to call pathfinder a 3 action point system. You can do 3 things, if you play a certain way. But if you don’t play that way you are punished.
Thanks for the video. I have GM'd all editions on D&D (except kinda 2nd), and PF1. Completely moved to 2E and loving it. One point to raise somewhere is in regards to duration they are mostly explicitly said but sometimes list a duration on one round. In these cases they are self-referential (i.e. fron now until now [my turn] comes again). We often talk about the 'top' of a round and the end/bottom. Once encounter mode is started and initiative is started the 'round' is a circle. For this video 'Delay' lets you jump in before anyone's next turn even someone who beat you in initiative if you delay long enough that it is about to come around to them.
I would have left mentioning the 'incapacitate trait' to last, because in our group it took a while to realise it had absolutely zero to do with incapacitating a foe. But great tutorial - if only I had seen this when I ported over from D&D5e to Pathfinder2s. Thanks.
This is really great! Just getting my group to switch systems. Already recommended the playlist of all your videos, but this will be a good summary for those without the patience! Quick note: in D&D 5e, the rule isn't that you multiply the damage dice total by two, it's that you double the number of all damage dice rolled (including things like sneak attack or magic item damage) and then add modifiers.
I have played d&d since 3.0, and I feel PF2 is what that game always wanted to be and never could. It is so much better than d&d 5e. For anyone that likes high fantasy, tactical combat, and character building/engineering, PF2 is the summit so far.
Outside of actual game mechanics and play and lore, there is also the fact that Paizo is a much more trustworthy company than Hasbro/WotC. They have unionized workers, they have not and will not use AI in their art, they have a consistent, reliable release schedule, and the people who own and run the company actually play Pathfinder and want it to be good. Add to that all the wonderful game aids like the flip maps and tiles and minis and fantastically written lore and adventures, just an overall a great TTRPG company.
@@BeardedDevil-cn9tw I would say Blood of the Wild (on the Glass Cannon Network, requires a paid subscription) is the best PF2 actual play. It's an audio-only podcast. DO NOT GIVE IN TO THIS URGE. things are written the way they are for a reason. play the rules as written and after a while until you will understand why it's written like this. only THEN you should try to modify it WotC does not write rules thinking of every situation so might feel you have to come up w rules for some scenarios, but more likely than not, these rules already exist. make a ruling in the moment, then look up the rules after and educate the players on what the correct rule is
Flexible Preparation is pretty much a free always-on thing at my table. I know it screws up the balance, but frankly no one (including me) can bother keeping track of spell slots and what's in them every day. It's the one big area where 5e rules over Pathfinder 2e IMO. That said, we're playing PF2e anyway, so we like it overall a lot more.
@@thewordywarlock7159: That's a bit of a dismissive comment.
