Oh man.. I used to have a JV1080...classic!! I sold my old studio years ago because I needed money when I first got married. Now I'm rebuilding again. Life is like that, my friend. But we must keep rebuilding!
Aftertouch is when you press a key and then press it in more - it changes the sound a bit. For example, I can play a synth sound, but if I press the keys in more, it modulates (tremolo-type sound) it.
@@SanjayC Thank u for ur reply. But I am sorry i already placed the order for Behringer. It would good if u could give me personal advices, if you are fine with it. Thank u
You'll be fine with the Behringer, don't worry about it. I have seen good reviews from people with the 404. The sound qualities differences between interfaces are very difficult to hear. So once you have the sound in your mix, no one will be able to tell the difference :-D
the day will come when I have a use for this and need it. now I just want it ;-) My synths all have sequencers built in, I own beatstep (not pro) and keystep (not pro) and my "drum mchine" is the volca beats with snare mod/fix. So I technically don't need this thing at all. But I really want it xD I like the 37 keys, the extended possibilties with 16 patterns, and the fact that I could make use of the cv outs (for now with a semi-modular synth, but who knows what the future will bring, not all modular stuff is unaffordable...) When I got interested in te synth world 2 years ago I thought I'd end up with a room full of Behringers, now it's a room full of Korg and Arturia. who woudda thunk lol
Haha...I like the Arturia synths for sure. Also, consider that this makes performance much easier than moving around to each synth or drum machine. You can control everything from one keyboard.

I really like the scale and chord functionality in this. Is there something that you would recommend? I've watched your other videos but have a hard time deciding, I was considering the launch key 49.
I don't think the KeyStep Pro is a good choice for controlling Ableton. Its more for performance with hardware. For good Ableton choices, check out my $100 keyboards video - ruclips.net/video/OXDRWwc5pUs/видео.html. And if you need something bigger, all those companies make bigger versions with more features. Choose your favorite from that list and then go for the bigger/better one from that company.
I wanted to get the keystep pro to control digitkt and model cycels for mostly just syc clock i need a keyboard to take the sounds from the typhon and mc 101 to play over what iv done on cycels and digitkt but it seems like i can connected it all into one key board.. I subscribed as well. you have a great channel looks like you have a sick setup as well visuals are setup very well
You will be able to play with more expression with a midi keyboard because its velocity sensitive (volume changes based on how hard you hit the keys). So I highly recommend it. You can even drum beats on it better than with your laptop keyboard.
I know what you mean. You are going to love one of my upcoming videos showing you how to create the cheapest studio EVER! And I'll produce a song using that studio and show you how you can too!
Thanks for the video! I'm wondering if it's worth to get the Keystep Pro if all of my synths which I would control, do have keys. Maybe a Beatstep Pro is enough or I'm missing some great features on Keystep Pro?
Hi Sanjay, I recently got the KSP and it is fun. But I am mainly using with iPad apps like AUM and Funk Drummer but I am having some sync issues and I wander if you ever tested on ipad? I send midi clock out to KSP and the sync is setup auto in it but for some reason usually starts fine but often misses to stop or restart again but over all the sync is very funky with apps and not sure if is a bug or something I am doing wrong. Just thought to check if you have any idea. Thank you
Nice vid, thanks. My only (and big) down is to realise that I can not launch/stop/rec from the Keystep Pro and/or from the sequencer (Live, Logic etc.) indistinctly. Let me explain this. If I launch the sequencer from the computer, yes, the Keystep follows apparently right. But if I then stop from the Keystep, only the Keystep stops and the sequencer keeps on running so I must stop the software on the computer by clicking. It doesn't happen if I launch both, computer and Keystep Pro, from my Komplete Kontrol S49. Then both react like it was supposed to be, and on time, of course, following the commands from the S49. I've tried from Logic to Live, Studio One and even LUNA, and it happens with all of them. To launch/stop both Keystep Pro and the computer software, I must do that from a third controller. Weird, isn't it?
Thank you for the quick helpful video! I had the original key step that had a transpose feature when the sequencer playing. Is this pro has the same feature?
@@webncyber yes on one track only for now. Btw a firmware update is coming next week, hopefully fixing a lot of the bugs. But I don't think the global transpose will be ready yet.
So.. i liked the keystep and also have a great sequenzer (synthstrom deluge) and just bought a keylab 49mk2... would you recommend switching to the ks pro
I'm not really familiar with the Deluge. If you can record multiple tracks on it, then maybe you're already covered. Otherwise, the multiple tracks on the KeyStep Pro is a game changer!
@@SanjayC thank you! Then i guess is stick to what i have. If you haven't you might wanna check out the deluge... its the center of my entire setup. You can edit every single note in a patern on its grid based display, super intuitive and can also function as a looper (midi/audio), sampler/groovebox and has a 2 osc synth engine as well... :) cheers
I suggest buying a 49-key midi controller. Depending on your budget either look at the Arturia Essential keyboards, or if you can spend more, look at these: ruclips.net/video/8Pqa_extYe8/видео.html
Hi does anyone know if I can use the MIDI IN to connect a pad controller just to control modular drum voices using the gate outs and sequencer of the Keystep Pro? Specifically could I connect my Roland SP303 to do this?
I guess if you want more tracks could you not run a slave beat step pro from a key step pro master? Or am I being greedy? Then again that would be the equivalent price of the Novation 49SL mk3.
This a beast sir I love it so badly sir. And thank you for making this Video sir thank you so much because of this Video I understanded so much about this beast machine sir ,Thank you sir.
I've been wanting this KeyStep Pro but I don't have hardware synths just virtual ones: pigments, V7 collection and Addictive Drums. I also have the original KeyStep. Not sure if the Pro would give me much that I can't get with Live and Cthulu. Any advice?
Yes, you can do that. But I'm not sure you'd need to chain them, maybe just connect each of them to separate synths or DAWs and have an ultimate jam sessioN!
Why don't you want more knobs :-) Well, if you want something affordable, look at the Arturia Keylab Essential and the Native Instruments A49. Usually keyboards come in 25, 49, and 61 key versions. So 49 is a good size for you.
One of key features of this product is the ability to sequence Midi CC automation, which is the "fifth channel" or White Color section of the board (totally left out of this review). For a comprehensive review and how the Control Channel functions see: ruclips.net/video/C9B-sqKcemw/видео.html @17:20
Good point. Honestly, I tested out the automation and didn't get impactful results with my own setup. I may have to learn more. BTW, love Loopop - such thorough reviews, and a nice guy.

If you plan to use hardware synthesizers, then the KeyStep is awesome. But if you are just going to use your computer, get the Keylab.
Thank you Brother Sanjay, I appreciate you. Always an inspiration for music creation.
Thanks for listening, Pasha, my friend. How are you this weekend?
@@SanjayC I'm doing great. 10th day of fasting and all is well. Stay at home order and no computer... I'm anxious to get back to music making.
Ah, Ramadan Mubarak. Sorry to hear you don't have your computer.
@@SanjayC Ramadan Mubarak. I am only left with 2 rackmount synths (JV1080 & Korg TR Trinity Rack), 88 key midi keyboard controller. Lost everything else (laptop w/ ableton, trilion, ik multimedia philharmonic, reason and many plugins). I have an MPC 2000 and an original SP-1200 I can sell on ebay to rebuild, God Willing.
Oh man.. I used to have a JV1080...classic!! I sold my old studio years ago because I needed money when I first got married. Now I'm rebuilding again. Life is like that, my friend. But we must keep rebuilding!
Hey Man, great video. But i have one question. What do you think about Novation Launch Key 49 Mk2? Is it worth those money?
Yes, that's a great keyboard for controlling software synths.
@@SanjayC ok, tkank you very much.
Nice video!
Thanks!
Ouch, this was $399 when it came out?!? It’s nearly double that 3 years later.
Hi man, would the Keystep Pro go good with a Beatstep Pro, or should I use something like a Launchpad with it instead? I use Ableton.
Nice video. Was just wondering what is the after touch you mentioned? 👍
Aftertouch is when you press a key and then press it in more - it changes the sound a bit. For example, I can play a synth sound, but if I press the keys in more, it modulates (tremolo-type sound) it.
@@SanjayC So it's like the Roli but without the rubbery texture?
Sanjay C, wishing that u reply to my doubt. Is Behringer UMC404HD a good interface. Appreciate your new video.
It is. But I prefer the sound quality on focusrite, native instrument, and Audient interfaces
@@SanjayC Thank u for taking ur time and giving good advices for ur subscribers. Love u and take care.
the day will come when I have a use for this and need it. now I just want it ;-) My synths all have sequencers built in, I own beatstep (not pro) and keystep (not pro) and my "drum mchine" is the volca beats with snare mod/fix.
So I technically don't need this thing at all. But I really want it xD I like the 37 keys, the extended possibilties with 16 patterns, and the fact that I could make use of the cv outs (for now with a semi-modular synth, but who knows what the future will bring, not all modular stuff is unaffordable...)
When I got interested in te synth world 2 years ago I thought I'd end up with a room full of Behringers, now it's a room full of Korg and Arturia. who woudda thunk lol
Haha...I like the Arturia synths for sure. Also, consider that this makes performance much easier than moving around to each synth or drum machine. You can control everything from one keyboard.
Wow I love it. But not within reach 😅😅 ,But one day 😇😇 .
How are you sanjay?

I'm good man. But I need to get back to making some new music. So much new gear to test out, but not enough time! What are you working on?
@@SanjayC take things one at a time.you will do it sanjay.I'm working on the courses for skillshare bro. I'm getting my first payment of about 45$ on 16th may on skillshare... Super pumped. So happy to hear that. Yes, I totally advise everyone to create content with the knowledge you have. It takes some work but it will always be there. Proud of you, bro!

I just recently started out with Ableton and I've been looking for a keyboard controller. I was considering this but maybe its not the right one.
What's about the use with a MPC Live and Maschine+?
I wanted to get the keystep pro to control digitkt and model cycels for mostly just syc clock i need a keyboard to take the sounds from the typhon and mc 101 to play over what iv done on cycels and digitkt but it seems like i can connected it all into one key board.. Im trying to get these all to work together . Looking to arrange it all into songs Its alot of money but i was thinking .why settel if i can do all of it with this unit . I subscribed as well. you have a great channel looks like you have a sick setup as well visuals are setup very well
Is it recommended to use a midi keyboard for music production or can I use my laptop keyboard for now? Peace out!
You will be able to play with more expression with a midi keyboard because its velocity sensitive (volume changes based on how hard you hit the keys). So I highly recommend it. You can even drum beats on it better than with your laptop keyboard.
@@SanjayC Thanks for the info, But the prob is I am 14 and got no money to buy one, But I will manage someday😁
I know what you mean. You are going to love one of my upcoming videos showing you how to create the cheapest studio EVER! And I'll produce a song using that studio and show you how you can too!
@@gamerg9420 Greetings from another 14 year old. I think we need to buy 25 key keyboards(they are cheap) and grow our skills like Sanjay C.
@@aniruddh_d16 ya bro
If I'm not new around here, are you not Sanjay C?
what if we can't afford either of these
Don't worry :)
Make the music you love
If you're using a DAW, you can always sequence notes/rhythms out to your hardware synths or drum machines.
YES! The best advice! @Being Tamilan Music
I'm like making beats with gaming headphones
and my pc
Thanks for the video! I'm wondering if it's worth to get the Keystep Pro if all of my synths which I would control, do have keys. Maybe a Beatstep Pro is enough or I'm missing some great features on Keystep Pro?
Key step pro is definitely the better choice. I love the 4 tracks for sequencing. It’s just better in every way.
@@SanjayC Thank you! I’ll give it a try
Seems pretty sweet thats for sure...
Its awesome!
Totally off topic, but might I ask what kind of studio desk you are using? It looks like a great solution for my homestudio. Thanx for your reply.
Its by Monkwood Studio. See my video here ruclips.net/video/Opg9p1SwXMs/видео.html
Can you merge tracks? I can merge multiple tracks on my Roland MC-50 but curious if you could do the same with this as well
Hi Sanjay, I recently got the KSP and it is fun. Thank you
Hey Nazareth. I haven’t tested it with an iPad. It sounds like a latency problem to me.
Yeah, true. Maybe they'll have some fix for it in a firmware upgrade
@@SanjayC I hope so. Knowing that Keystep Pro is a performance beast, some basic studio features shouldn't be compromised or missed, IMHO.
Thank you for the quick helpful video! I had the original key step that had a transpose feature when the sequencer playing. Is this pro has the same feature?
not for all tracks at the same time, Arturia says they're looking into it... expect an implementation in 2026 update lol
Matteo Luigi oh so you mean it is on one track only at the moment?
@@webncyber yes on one track only for now. Btw a firmware update is coming next week, hopefully fixing a lot of the bugs. But I don't think the global transpose will be ready yet.
Can You connect Keystep Pro and BeatStep Pro And play?
Yes you can. And you can send them to different midi channels so that you can control more synths or instruments!
Can KeyStep Pro control reaper without mapping?
So.. i liked the keystep and also have a great sequenzer (synthstrom deluge) and just bought a keylab 49mk2... would you recommend switching to the ks pro
:) cheers
i want to learn playing the keyboard but i also want to create music. So should i buy a more traditional keyboard or a midi controller?
I suggest buying a 49-key midi controller. Depending on your budget either look at the Arturia Essential keyboards, or if you can spend more, look at these: ruclips.net/video/8Pqa_extYe8/видео.html
@@SanjayC thanks man appericiate it

@@SanjayC nope
Sir when is the Arturia minilab mark 3
I'm not sure. I haven't heard anything just yet. But as soon as I find out, I'll let you know.
Yeah, I guess you could do that. Or you could route the KeyStep through your DAW and get unlimited tracks! :-D
@@SanjayC very true. I was wearing my hardware (DAWless) cap and thinking of live applications.

Glad I could help. Do you want this in the future?
Yes please.
How would this pair with the Software version of Juno-106 and Roland TR-8 (instead of Drmbrute or Arturia version)
Running through Ableton Live?
I've been wanting this KeyStep Pro but I don't have hardware synths just virtual ones: pigments, V7 collection and Addictive Drums. I also have the original KeyStep. Not sure if the Pro would give me much that I can't get with Live and Cthulu. Any advice?
If you don't have hardware synths or drum machines, then I think you can do most (and more) of this with Ableton or any DAW.
@@SanjayC Thanks

What's the best 25-44 keyboard with minimal knobs for a 16 year old.
Why don't you want more knobs :-) Well, if you want something affordable, look at the Arturia Keylab Essential and the Native Instruments A49. Usually keyboards come in 25, 49, and 61 key versions. So 49 is a good size for you.
