Fantastic review. However, you're not getting the full impact of the song until you hear the remix played at the eclipse. Forces is a dialed down version of the remix. The original OST Forces Remix is far more dramatic.
To my fellow strugglers... may we continue to fight and survive Our efforts never fruitless Our will never waning Our hearts ever beating Our memories never fading Remember him KENTARO SENSEI
"Aria" is my favorite Berserk song by Hirusawa Susumu. The cool thing about the song is how the lyrics are all gibberish but Hirusawa explained it as his emotions coming out.
So, for a little bit of background for this track: Unlike Guts' theme, which was more melancholic to reflect Guts' outlook on his own past, Forces was very much meant to show Guts at the height of his time as a mercenary. As I sort of alluded to before with my comment on Guts' theme, Guts spent a good portion of his young life as a mercenary, only able to trust the sword in his hand as he swung the 6 foot (no joke) behemoth of a broadsword, severing man, horse, or whatever else was foolish enough to get in his way. Of course, this all changes when he is effectively forced into joining the Band of the Hawk, a mercenary band that would eventually become his family. Under them, he would not only finally be shown companionship and love of many varieties, but also flourish into one of the deadliest soldiers in the show, even pre-eclipse. This track (usually) plays during large scale conflicts between the Band of the Hawk at the height of their power and their enemies, where Guts is no longer a scared child trying to survive on his own, but now the Commander of the Hawks Raiders, and the Hundred Man Slayer. Guts considers these times (appropriately referred to as the Golden Age era), surrounded by comrades and friends, to be the best times of his life, even though he may regret how he had lived them. The lyrics are not so much about how he misses Griffith specifically, as while they were once friends the latter's ascension broke any bonds between them, but for the Band as a whole, and how they're no longer by his side. They were the only family he really had, and they were savagely ripped away from him before he could really appreciate them.
Spot on. He can't be talking about Griffith there, because while Griffith went away, their companions purely died. Guts doesn't stand alone, without Griffith. He stands without his comrades following a path of vengeance against Griffith.
My second favourite Berserk music just below "Sign". I really love Forces for how grand and uplifting it is, and immediately brings to mind of Guts' life at its peak during his time as a mercenary and his bands, forging new friendships, budding romance and rise to glory...
Forces is such a great call to arms theme, even if Miura is not longer with us, we shall honor his memory by not giving up and keep up on struggling for the better future
I know forces won the vote but Murder is one of my all time favorites. You can hear the horror, terror, and drive of the moment weeping from the music. It is an astounding piece. To some it might be a little redundant/long so I could see how people wouldn’t agree with that
Murder by far my favorite to play in the background (I think I have it in one my tabs right now). It's the real sad thing about all these polls is that you'll only get the most popular songs, but also really dumb songs like "Blood and Guts" or the "Pillar Men Theme", that are cool, but not so technical and amazing as some the less hype songs. Not something I'd show to a "composer'" that's for sure. I think listening to how the 3 Sign songs change and build onto each other are my favorite to play together though. I think they go really well together from technical and atmospheric points of view.
@@rogueassassin875 I suppose that the 2016 version of Blood and Guts wasn't the best to have him listen to, and he should have listened to the original. However, I do think that Blood and Guts was a good choice, just to properly illustrate the despair of Guts' childhood and life before the Eclipse. While I do enjoy Susumu Hirasawa's music, I prefer Shiro Sagisu's as he helps give life to the Black Swordsman/Conviction arc, and show the rage and sadness.
@@dradvrim1 Yeah but Shiro Sagisu is so prevalent in other shows that he really gets enough exposure imo. I don't think that Blood and Guts was a good choice, because the point here is not to "properly illustrate" anything to do with the story since this is just a music reaction lol. What it does for the story has nothing to do with anything here as the goal here is just to give him good pieces, not to give him stuff that is just cool or fitting to some parts of the story. Just like while I think that the "pillar men theme" was really cool, I wouldn't want to give that to a composer as a representation of the work since it's really more of something I'd show to a layman and not something musically minded people would find intriguing; a much appropriate pick would have been "stardust crusaders" from S3 instead. Maybe why I like Susumu Hirasawa so much is because of how it fits so well with the fantastical themes of the Millennium Empire arc (my favorite arc) lol, but even so I feel something from him or something other blood and guts would be a better pick.

This is my favourite song from the soundtrack of berserk 1997, really happy you reacted to it! I highly recommend checking out more of Susumu Hirasawa's discography, he is my favourite artist and his sound has gone through a lot of iterations over decades that all sound similar, yet distinct. His "best album" according to most fans is "Technique of Relief", so it's a great place to start!
