Thank you Dave for such a great review. I live in Washington state in the US and I am still waiting for my CRF300L Rally to get here. If the supply Chain ever gets moving again Honda is going to have a hard time keeping these bikes in stock. I started riding again in 2012 after not having ridden for about 40 years. I bought a Honda CRF230L that I still have but also bought a NC700X in 2013 to ride as a adventure bike but it is to heavy for this 70 year old guy to pick up so I think the Rally is going to work prefect for me if it ever comes in. I Love your channel, I have been watching for a couple years now.

Clubby's rant at the end made me a big fan of this channel. Echoed all experienced dual sport rider's frustrations. I gave up waiting and outfitted a 450L for dual sport use with tank, seat and windscreen. Worth it to invest in your dream bike.
Bought the 300 rally today. Test rode the 450 rally before I did. I found for my purposes that the 450 had too much power and the maintenance schedule was intrusive. By contrast, the 300 was cooperative, had power and low maintenance not to mention priced right. Its people like you that help this industry keep a high, consistent bar. Thank you for your help here
Suspension was too rigid and if you try to tweak it, you change the very dynamic of the machine design. This is for serious young and athletic off roaders Who also like the street use as well. It’s an excellent bike. But I would not buy it again
Great review Dave thanks. Per Clubby’s rant at the end... perhaps that’s the surprise Yamaha will give to the world to replace the beloved WRR. Maybe a 450R with 15 L tank, screen, and WR250R service intervals.
Well, I’ve got one of these here in Sweden and I agree with everything that was said in this video! I bloody love the little thing! And YSS aftermarket shock and springs will probably make me marry this thing...
Great review Guys. Please don't leave out the South African market out of the equation as our huge adventure bike market can very easily accommodate a dual sport like this. Honda has a big footprint in RSA as well as up into the rest of Africa. A well known Dutch RUclipsr Itchy Boots recently did big miles in SA, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe on a 250L. Noraly ended the tour by doing a desert rally on it i the Kalahari and then donated her bike to a motorcycle museum near Cape Town and went back home to buy a CRF300 Rally to resume her South American to Alaska tour interrupted early 2020 by the pandemic. With some simple mods & luggage her bike is very nicely kitted out.
Great compromise and budget bike, but as there’s no 450 or 500 it’s a good choice, I’ve just ridden the 250 rally from U.K. to Cape Town and the extra 50 cc would have come in handy on the blacktop and fast dirt, hyperpro suspension a camel tank, stronger bars and lifted, as always great filming
I've ridden nothing but 250-350 cc dual sport thumpers since 1975. All that time, I've wanted a 350-400 cc adventure bike. We're finally getting some small displacement ADV bikes, but they're not quite ticking all of the boxes. Honda has the low cost 300CRF dual sport, and good on them for that. For the Rally version, they should have a 20L or larger fuel tank, upgraded rear suspension and add a stock luggage rack. Yes, it'll run up the cost, but t's cheaper to buy that stuff from the factory, rather than adding it later, or worse, buying the factory parts and throwing them in the bin to add the needed aftermarket parts. Aesthetics are subjective but I'd have liked a color such as black or gray instead of flaming Honda red. Absolutely brilliant review. You guys always do a great job. Thanks!
Top review! You guys have given us an understanding to myself and others who have purchased or thinking about purchasing the 300 rally. Enjoyed how it performs on the dirt and how it sits on the highways, fuel consumption etc. Real good having some one giving the benefit of the doubt on this particular Honda. Thank you 🙏 😀👍
Dang it. Through the miracle of RUclips I have more access to legit Aussies. What a witty, fun-loving, low-key-insightful people. Grumpy northeast Americans could learn a thing or two from Aussie culture. Admirable attitude and humor.
Totally agree with Clubby! And have been thinking the same for ages. I love and ride the 701, but my girl's DRZ400 won't last forever and a CRF450 Adv would be perfect replacement. Had Honda had a CRF600-700 Adv single I'd have been up for that too a couple of years back.
honda shoulda offered the 300 in trail/supermoto and the 450 in trail/adv although the price-point of the honda adv is hard to argue with considering any other new adv bike is 10k usd at the cheapest.
You have no idea how much I appreciate this review, I just recently got a CRF250L Rally and have been looking for videos like this, I'm new to adventure riding but love dual sports, this is my second bike now that I was practice for 6 months and am more comfortable on a bike, I don't know how hardcore I'm going to ride it but I'm glad to know that it's going to be a good adventure bike
Amazing review and can't wait for you to get one and mod it. After my current 6 year around the world ride (on an actual BMW Dakar 650 rally) covering 420,000km this is the bike I'm buying in 4 months time to carry on with my trip
Thank you for the review. Decided to buy a bike last week after filling up my GX460 overlander (Fancy Prado)for the second time. Found a Rally after calling over 10 dealerships the next state over and rode it home the next day. Couldn't be happier even at 6'3" 250lbs. One week of fill ups with my Lexus costs more than the payments and insurance on the Rally. 13mpg vs 73mpg will have it pay itself off in a year or two with the way things are going with fuel prices. It was a practical decision, and after finding out the WR250R was discontinued I figured I'd be settling for the Rally, but it's actually perfect for my commute and needs. Feel very lucky to have found one. Most dealerships have waiting lists that are 6 months out.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV me either! Feel very blessed and am grateful to have found one. I've ridden it every day since I got it. Already over 2,650km and it hasn't been a month yet. Perfect commuter and will be a good time on the trails.
Hi Dave great review, I'm always very impressed with the time you take to with editing and the no bias view of these bikes, well done, looks to be a great bike with a few upgrade like you said. Cheers Nate
I agree, but is a pity that Honda dont do what KTM do , like a better specced out R version with 100cc more and better suspension , maybe its because they think there is not a big enough market for a better version of the CRF 300 ....... this will remain one of the great mysteries of adventure bike production. Come on Honda if KTM can do it so can u ........ Pleaase ?
Well I feel *slightly* vindicated. I'm a novice off-road rider switching from my CRF250L to a CRF300 Rally bought *unseen* and still not arrived yet. Bit of a rash purchase, but I'm feeling better about it now! - having now watched the entire review; thanks so much for reviewing the bike in so much depth. For me, the CRF300 Rally is going to be my *first* adventure bike, getting back to it after 20 years as a road biker. The detail in the review was excellent.
i'm in a similar position, looking to pull the trigger on the 250 (cheaper) or 300, bit concerned which is better for my height 6'2 but bending towards 300
Dave! This is hands down the best review on the Rally I've seen. You've nailed every aspect. It is very close to being one of the best all-rounders on the market in the small capacity bikes. I have the 250 version but spent the money on the suspension and it's a totally different (very capable) off-roader. I'd love it If you could get your hands on a AJP PR7 to do a test on, as it seems to have what the CRF rally doesn't. Great job!
Thank you for the real test... its the little things like details on speed to revs in different gears, rider weight and height for a comparisons . Keep up the good work Team.
At last, a good knowledgeable review. Thank you for the time you put into this. The other reviews I’ve seen fade in comparison and I’ll now have one of these by years end. Our friend Nick out at Penrith better have his tools ready ! I agree a 450 would be great, but with a bit of tinkering this will be fine. It’d be great if Honda gave you one as a long termed that you could add your bots and pieces to. Hanks again for a great job done.
Love the review because most don't even address the suspension which is telling about the objectivity of these reviews. Have to wait until July until mine gets delivered so glad I get these videos to see it in the meanwhile :D
Brilliant review as always. Couldn't agree more with Clubby + the 450/500 absolutely does work and is wanted in Europe. Basically, the whole world is waiting for someone, anyone to give us a 450/500 engine in the CRF Rally package BUT with decent adjustable suspension. Preferably from Honda and Yamaha. I reckon the sweet spot for such a package would be £8,500-£9,000 / AUD15,000-16,000 / USD12,000-12,500.
Absolutely amazing video and review again, thanks guys and can't agree with you more at the end about a 450cc version, I've had money sat for ages waiting for a bike like that but no one is making one, had a few teases over the years but to no avail 😑
You guys are looking for the DRZ400 by Suzuki. It's not as flashy, but it's gotten the job done since the 1980's. Looks like set a nother country wants Yamaha to do a WR300. Great video ! Actually good useful opinions from normal sized and aged people - good on you gents. this has been very useful.
Same here I'm 61 have had big trail bikes and motocross bikes then big road bikes but now looking to trail ride its either an old XR250 or a CRF300l that I can pick up off the ground.
Thank you for yet another great review. It sounds like the 300 Rally perform as I had hoped it would. It will most likely be my weapon of choice, when I set out on a rtw trip in a not too distant future 😀
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV I plan on throwing money after the very reasonable priced suspension kit from YSS. Besides that, it seems like the bike only needs bar risers/new handlebars, a bit of crash protection and a small rear rack before I can strap my Mosko Moto R80 on and head out.
Dave and Clubby- great review. I am 5'8" and 178 pds (177cm/80+k) so I believe this bike is a good fit. No big adv's planned, just want one for bugging around...especially so after this review. Thanks and well done.
@@onemileattatime2642 I didn't buy it. I had a chance but passed on it as I was undecided and had (still have) another bike to ride. Sorry! Best wishes.
That was a great work, I appriciated... but you know what, a lot of agree on having that with 450 engine on it.. No matter where you are parked on earth, we never undeestand why they don't built it.. But thankyou 2.. great work, great effort, great ride..🤙🤙🤙
Honda dropped the ball in not offering a factory suspension upgrade package to be available for more experienced riders to buy. Even their bean counters would be happy with that.
@@crazyosva my point is about Honda offering it not the aftermarket. 4 years ago Honda didn't have a crf300 so I swapped a cbr300 into my crf250. I also equipped it with Ohlins. The factory finally caught up with the 300 but still kept the pogo stick soft suspension.
I see you rode it next to a Tenere 700, could you tell us which one would you prefer for a junior adventure bike? I know they're not exactly same league but I'm leaning towards Tenere 700
Nail on the head with your review. I'm an extremely experienced dirt biker (coming up on two decades of riding now) and I think this bike is the perfect compromise for how hard I want to ride and how far I want to go, no other bike straddles the line like this one does in my opinion. 👍
Beautifull review, Queastion: Is it worth to upgrade from 250 rally? I drive 80 % Freeway and road.... I hope for a better punch to overtake around 120km/h?
Thanks for the great review. Been waiting for content this good about this bike for months. Excited to see some is starting to get out there. This bike can't arrive quick enough. Your videos reassured me about the suspension "fears" and even got me thinking about keeping this bike as my single do-it-all bike. But for that, it first has to arrive!
Y’ know, many (perhaps most) small capacity bikes are sold with suspension set ups for the light, 65kg rider. Heavier riders then need to spend $$$ to change it. Then you need to spend more on all the other bits and pieces to make it off-road worthy - that’s what the manufacturers make us do. I understand that a ROAD bike should be sold with road-spec parts, but surely a dual sport should be sold with real dual sport parts as standard! Let’s return to the first point: suspension for skinny kids. The big manufacturers claim they are fighting and competing for sales but they are NOT offing us what we want or even what we need! If these massive companies want to shift more bikes off the showroom floors, then the one that sells bikes with a choice of spring to suit the rider (no difference in cost), will become the winner, right? I think we’ve been dictated to for far too long. It’s time that the consumer started making some demands - sell us a dual sport bike that is dual sport ready straight off the showroom floor, at a competitive price, or stick your ‘build your own bike kit’ up your whattsit
Thanks for this great review and don't be shy 40minutes is enough no need to fill the last 10minutes with blank :D Count me in for the CRF450 Rally (Europe)
Great review. Just about the best, most even-handed I've watched. Picked mine up about 4 weeks ago. Must have been one of the first in oz to get one. I live in Sydney and bought it for exactly the riding you did in the review. Thanks, can't wait to hit the dirt and the highways.
Every rider I know is asking the same question you guys are, Why not a 450 ? I bought a CB500x new for the same price as this CRF Rally because I have to do a lot of black top K's, but I like dirt roads and forestry trails on it as well. It's a heavier bike , but compromises have to be made for long distance comfort. If any bike manufacturers are listening, very few of us are 6'4" gods of enduro, we like to get our feet on the ground occasionally. So not too tall, a softly tuned 450 - 500 single, comfortable seat, good fuel capacity, luggage carrying ability.
I just revisited this video as I am seriously considering buying the standard version, crf300l. After watching so many other so called 'reviews' of this bike, I realize just how much effort you guys put into producing this informative video. Great stuff. I do think, however, after a quick seat bounce on one here in thailand almost confirmed the fact that a suspension upgrade won't be far away 😊
Oh Clubby copy and paste that rant into an email to Honda/Yam R &D departments. I got the T7 but find sometimes riding solo have to make a decision to back track when I’ve come across an obstacle that may have me off. Never had that problem on me old Drzee ! Weight is not your mate.
Such an adventurous review! Enjoyed every bit of it. I drive a 2017 CRF 250 Rally and it's bullet proof taken it up and down the Himalayan mountains here in Nepal together with my wife on our motorcycle adventure. I am looking forward to upgrading to this version and pretty excited! Cheers!!
This has to be the best review of the Crf300 rally! It looks like the blue in the decal, is a lighter shade vs what we get in the US. The lighter shade looks much better!
When you were talking about your height and you said 178 cm I was trying to do math in my head since I'm from America and then you said 5 ft 10 in the old money.... I laughed my ass off 👍👍👍
Great review! I think that’s what this bikes are all about: you won’t win any races, but it will take you everywhere you want and it will do it reliably. And at reasonable speeds it will easily keep up with much stronger bikes. Being a seasoned rider (over 30 years on bikes) I ordered a CRF300L which should be delivered within the next few days and I can’t wait to start riding it. Since I’m 185cm and 90kg I’ve already ordered an aftermarket shock and a harder spring for the front as well. It will be lots of fun!
I couldn't agree more with you guys! Being a massive Honda fan boy I believe I will put one of these Rally's in my stable, something I could hand down to my sons as they come of age. I have been riding a Gen 1 KLR 650 for a few years now waiting for Honda's middle weight bike. I nearly bought a T7 which is also a fantastic machine. Hmmm...
There is a channel called itchyboots where a young Dutch woman is riding her 300 Rally from South America to Alaska. It says a lot for her and the bike. I will be in the market for a small bore road/trail bike when I eventually get to NSW later this year.
Just to add to the conversation at the end, we in europe would love a 400/450cc version of this with the fairings and screen and everything on the 300 rally. Kawasaki did it in the sport bike world with the ninja 400. Honda should do with with a CRF400/450 Rally. It's the ideal adventure bike with room to grow for new riders and that little bit of extra power for experienced riders.

Clubby's rant at the end made me a big fan of this channel. Echoed all experienced dual sport rider's frustrations. I gave up waiting and outfitted a 450L for dual sport use with tank, seat and windscreen. Worth it to invest in your dream bike.
Agree
"Holy snappin' duck manure" - Need to write this one down, very creative.
Thank you for your help here
A good purchase. Value for money.
Did you upgrade the front or rear suspension? If so, what did you purchase?
No upgrades Went stock
@@RanRightRealty stock - what was your impression of the suspension? Do you still have the bike, or sell it already "Would you buy it again"?
Suspension was too rigid and if you try to tweak it, you change the very dynamic of the machine design. This is for serious young and athletic off roaders Who also like the street use as well. It’s an excellent bike. But I would not buy it again
Great review Dave thanks. Per Clubby’s rant at the end... perhaps that’s the surprise Yamaha will give to the world to replace the beloved WRR. Maybe a 450R with 15 L tank, screen, and WR250R service intervals.
That's looking like a unicorn.

What a great tie-in with their Dakar racer. Definitely would scavenge T7 sales, but still in the same brand. Give me a unicorn any day of the week!

@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV don’t tell my fiancé please😊
You should do you ride again with the 300! :)
Africa is the hardcore ride, somewhere easier next time
I've ridden nothing but 250-350 cc dual sport thumpers since 1975.
Thanks!
Interesting view on the bike
I love watching MAD videos and this is another great one. Great review very informative.Cheers from wet Wales.
Top review! You guys have given us an understanding to myself and others who have purchased or thinking about purchasing the 300 rally. Enjoyed how it performs on the dirt and how it sits on the highways, fuel consumption etc. Real good having some one giving the benefit of the doubt on this particular Honda. Thank you 🙏 😀👍
As usual great review. You do great videos - keeps me going through lockdowns and makes me want to live in Australia
Thank you very much!
Dang it. Through the miracle of RUclips I have more access to legit Aussies. What a witty, fun-loving, low-key-insightful people. Grumpy northeast Americans could learn a thing or two from Aussie culture. Admirable attitude and humor.
Thanks mate :)
Yeah we’re all saying the same thing
honda shoulda offered the 300 in trail/supermoto and the 450 in trail/adv although the price-point of the honda adv is hard to argue with considering any other new adv bike is 10k usd at the cheapest.
Thanks
Amazing review and can't wait for you to get one and mod it.
After my current 6 year around the world ride (on an actual BMW Dakar 650 rally) covering 420,000km this is the bike I'm buying in 4 months time to carry on with my trip
should be good for you
Thank you for the review.
I can't believe you found one.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV me either! Feel very blessed and am grateful to have found one.
I've ridden it every day since I got it. Already over 2,650km and it hasn't been a month yet.
Perfect commuter and will be a good time on the trails.
I've been waiting for a decent review of this bike. Very well done! And yes, why is no one making a light, affordable, 450cc rally?
Thank You
Ccm here in the UK did make one. The GP450. And nobody bought it.
Csc makes a 450 and it gets good reviews for less money

Hi Dave great review, I'm always very impressed with the time you take to with editing and the no bias view of these bikes, well done, looks to be a great bike with a few upgrade like you said. Cheers Nate

One of the best reviews for any bije I have seen. Well done guys.
Thank you. We do try to bee thorough
It is a great bike! Going to really get a lot of new people into adventure riding and get a lot of old people back into adventure riding.
Well then we've succeeded.
Pleaase ?
What a great comprehensive video! It was nice to watch you aussies taking that Honda for a spin. Thank you.
Be vindicated. You've done well.
i'm in a similar position, looking to pull the trigger on the 250 (cheaper) or 300, bit concerned which is better for my height 6'2 but bending towards 300
Great review, that mate at the 36:20 mark took the video up a notch. Good little chat! thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it Yeah that;s Clubby
Great job!
Glad you liked it! Got to say I'm not interested in the AJP.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV That's interesting? Thought it would be right up your alley?

At last, a good knowledgeable review. Thank you for the time you put into this.
The other reviews I’ve seen fade in comparison and I’ll now have one of these by years end. Our friend Nick out at Penrith better have his tools ready !
I agree a 450 would be great, but with a bit of tinkering this will be fine.
It’d be great if Honda gave you one as a long termed that you could add your bots and pieces to.
Hanks again for a great job done.
Nick Dole is going to be buy, but I faith he'll sort it.
Love the review because most don't even address the suspension which is telling about the objectivity of these reviews.

450 - 500 Well said! I always look the Oz reviews - You guys are awesome! Cheers from the West US!
Much appreciated! Thank you. We have a lot in common in the world of adventure riding community. Cheers from the East.
Thanks for your contribution
I have to 100% agree with clubbie that in America a 450 Dakar/Adventure bike would be amazing.
There is one. The KTM 450 Factory Rally. Absolutely stellar machine, but the price is also stellar lol

Thanks Clubby & CO, after repeated viewings of this clip my wife has now bought one of these fine little Honda ADV bikes 😁

What a great evaluation of this bike.I have been going back and fourth between the CRF 300L and this Rally…..right now I’m leaning toward the Rally
More open country, get the Rally
Thank you for yet another great review. It sounds like the 300 Rally perform as I had hoped it would. It will most likely be my weapon of choice, when I set out on a rtw trip in a not too distant future 😀
you won't be disappointed provided yo do the suspension for the extra weight of luggage and gear.
@@RoamingViking Yeah, I reckon you're right.
Dave and Clubby- great review. I am 5'8" and 178 pds (177cm/80+k) so I believe this bike is a good fit. No big adv's planned, just want one for bugging around...especially so after this review. Thanks and well done.

Honda dropped the ball in not offering a factory suspension upgrade package to be available for more experienced riders to buy. Even their bean counters would be happy with that.
I think that's an option, particularly when the engine and handling of th bike are so good.
@@reegyreegz You can't outrun old age...there's plenty of ageing riders who are buying them apparently. With that age there is often vast experience.
But Ohlins did ! I have front fork upgrade + new rear shock, and it's total game changer :)

Put it this way, you've got to know what you're doing to ride terrain like that harder stuff with a 700.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Absolutely right. The small CRF would be much more manageable for a novice to riding offroad, and less tiring.
Nail on the head with your review. I'm an extremely experienced dirt biker (coming up on two decades of riding now) and I think this bike is the perfect compromise for how hard I want to ride and how far I want to go, no other bike straddles the line like this one does in my opinion. 👍
The only limitation for them right now, is there is not enough of them around. We can't get one in Australia at present.
Beautifull review, Queastion: Is it worth to upgrade from 250 rally? I drive 80 % Freeway and road.... I hope for a better punch to overtake around 120km/h?
better punch at 120? , you need a 400
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV thank you, what are your thoughts about the Himalayan with 411?
Thanks for the great review. Been waiting for content this good about this bike for months. Excited to see some is starting to get out there. This bike can't arrive quick enough. Your videos reassured me about the suspension "fears" and even got me thinking about keeping this bike as my single do-it-all bike. But for that, it first has to arrive!
I think a lot of people will have a similar plan.
Totally agree, there isn't many school kids under 65 kgs these days. Bikes should be set up as a medium of 100kgs.
That dude at the end was perfect! I'd buy him a beer if I could! Made the vid!
Well done Clubby

I have to agree with your kangaroo friend. "It will be the great unknown that we will carry to our graves" A-fucking-men.

Yes, kind of, but much more adventure oriented
Great review! I think that’s what this bikes are all about: you won’t win any races, but it will take you everywhere you want and it will do it reliably. And at reasonable speeds it will easily keep up with much stronger bikes. Being a seasoned rider (over 30 years on bikes) I ordered a CRF300L which should be delivered within the next few days and I can’t wait to start riding it. Since I’m 185cm and 90kg I’ve already ordered an aftermarket shock and a harder spring for the front as well. It will be lots of fun!
Yeah, you'll be happy with your choice. Your modification are exactly what I'd do.
Brilliant review, its what I expected owning CRF250L for 5 years and seeing specs of this, confirmed what I thought of the bike.
man improvements
Yes we know about Itchy.
Agree
