  • The beginnings of the Zoo date back to the Middle Ages, when Prince Petru Cercel moved, in 1583, the country's capital, from Bucharest to Targoviste, to the Royal Court, proudly guarded by the Chindia Tower.
Petru Cercel brought Italian specialists to create, in the area near the Royal Palace (in the current Chindia Park), beautiful Italian gardens and also "made to make extremely large and beautiful cages, in which to shelter wildlife" (Franco Sivori - Foreign travelers about the Romanian Lands). It can be said that the first Zoo in Romania was created in Târgoviște, since the medieval era. In time, this garden disappeared.
In 1957 - a zoo was established in the central park of the city. From 1970-1972, the Zoo moved to Chindia Park near the Royal Court Museum Complex.
