    This is my first official gold sniping trip, it was fun and very successful.
    5 years ago I was snorkeling across the river here and happened across some gold nuggets on the river bed in this spot. At that time I tried to stake a placer gold claim but found that it was already claimed. Now I have been able to stake a federal gold claim on this spot and I can finally do some real sniping for gold! With the high price of gold there’s a new gold rush and now is the perfect time to gold prospecting.
    Here is the story of how I happened upon the gold here and patiently waited to claim it:
    • Snorkeler Accidentally...
    I’ve also done some test panning and metal detecting on the bedrock here on the shore and found lots of nice little gold nuggets. I plan to sluice and use a highbanker here in the future and possibly even do some gold dredging.
    Here’s the video of my first gold panning test on the claim:
    • There's so much gold o...

    You did very well Eric, and those fish were absolutely following you. They are used to otters, mink and muskrats digging for food on the river bottom and are trying to pick up scraps. You must have looked like one of those critters to them with your black suit and your behavior of moving rocks and such. Mostly characteristic of a mink searching for crayfish.

    Fascinating! And beautiful scenery. Same looking river and creek beds - but down here in Tasmania. Going exploring 'down the creek' every day as a child, but never occurred to us to look for Gold! {Gold mines up in the North of the State. Now wondering if the South has been overlooked! ) Too busy catching frogs, tadpoles and building dams and tree houses! WAAAAIT! Just spied "Tassie Boys Prospecting" site- over to the side bar! Hmmm Thank you for the introduction. Your excitement about your 'flakes' is infectious.
    I'm too old & 'weathered' to go prospecting myself these days - so armchair prospecting vicariously is great. ... But... yeah. Now pondering whether a little wander along old routes might be interesting!?!? {* If you see a News Item titled: Ancient Old Hag retrieved from creek bed in Southern Tasmania by Emergency Services, muttering "Blame Eric!" you'll know it's me! } 🤣

      @@wildernesseric pack mule.. I've seen a few guys use old timer tec like rocker boxes and there are of course modern version's of old timers tec but I've yet to see anyone use a pack mule. A dredge on that spot is very doable. And I would leave it there, up above flood level chained to a tree, then the only thing you'd have to pack in would be fuel. Way to be patient with obtaining the claim. A "dream claim" as Dan Hurd would say. Excellent video! Watched every last minute of all your videos and excited for what's to come! Good content. Although it would be great to have the close-up shots in focus, don't worry too much about the close-ups; those of us who do this routinely know exactly what you're seeing underwater. You'll get there!

      @wildernesseric Chris Ralph is a smart prospector, his delivery is a bit dry sometimes, but I'm really only watching his stuff for the informational value, not flashy, fresh dug or sniped gold.

  • @chrishansley6200
    @chrishansley6200 11 месяцев назад +2

    Hey any bedrock that you can break out is going to be hiding the gold. And you need to take a small 2ft long shovel to dig the overburden out. You already know that the gold is going to be at the bottom. And those deeper spots are gonna hold the most gold… most of the time anyway! Looking good! And watch out for those blowing deer! Hahahaha their dangerous! 😂

    • @wildernesseric
      @wildernesseric  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah I was pretty excited to find some breaky bedrock. Actually in this area I'm finding gold in multiple layers. There's a clay layer in the gravel that has gold sitting on it, a clay layer on the bedrock that has gold on it, and then the bedrock itself has gold sitting on it or in the cracks. I'm taking it slow with the overburden here so I don't discard the gold in it. For the deeper areas in the river though it would be good to find a way to move the overburden away fast to find bedrock pockets. Thanks for watching!

      In person every little spec of gold shows up in bright yellow. The mask also kinda magnifies stuff under water due to diffraction. Unfortunately the really bright yellow color washes out on the camera and looks white so it blends in with other stuff on camera.

    Did you figure out which camera you liked best?

    • @wildernesseric
      @wildernesseric  4 месяца назад +1

      So far my favorite is a good ole waterproof cell phone. There doesn't seem to be a good purpose built camera for stuff like this. I tried the Olympus Tough G6 and it seemed to have focusing issues while trying to video close up if not holding perfectly still. The action cams can't focus if you get really close and they tend to wash out the bright gold color in sunlight.

      @wildernesseric  4 месяца назад

      If you find a spot you want to prospect look up and down the area at least 1/4 mile for claim signs or corner marking posts. If there is a road along it I'd look about 1 mile around. The minimum claim size at least in the USA is about 1/4 mile long. It is the responsibility of the claim owner to mark the claim with visible claim signs and markers along their claim.

Put a plastic bag on your foot or hand with a plastic bag on your foot. Place your foot in the leg of the wet suit and pull up as if you are putting on your jeans. Pull the bag off your foot and repeat with your arms and other.
