    Good insight, Ryan. I find that I am pretty good at doing form shooting up until the free throw line.
    After that, I always had a minor thumb flick in my shots for power because I'm pretty short. It's not as egregious as Kyrie's where his guide hand palm is facing the rim but more subtle like Curry.
    Trying to eliminate altogether is so tough because I'd air ball at the free-throw line.

    In my case, thumb flicking is a matter of distance from the basket. Inside the 3pt line, I don't use a thumb flick, but I do when I'm beyond it. I need to, because I don't have enough strength to shoot from that far without it. Also have a bit of a frozen shoulder, so no thumb flicks mean a bit more pain. In any case, I'm a decent shooter with the thumb flick, so while perfect shooting form will always be best, it's all about whatever works for you, and the thumb flick just happens to work for me.

    For me, the thumb flick came as my ball handling and shot creation got better. For me to pull up off the dribble, I grip hard w/ my pinky and thumb and rising into my jumper, it's hard to straighten my off hand and not use the thumb. It seems harder to create shots off the dribble and have a high jumper without the thumb flick for me. I've been debating whether or not to go back to the old form. My old form, I was a lights out sniper, but had no off the bounce game whatsoever. I was a catch and shoot camper sniper. Now I have a very deadly midrange, but my 3 point shot is becoming trash. I don't know what to do? Having the thumb seems to give me better grip on the ball in every scenario except when I rise for my shot lol.

    • @michavanalstine6744
      @michavanalstine6744 5 лет назад +1

      and for some odd reason, my shot sucks when I'm stationary with little movement. But when I fade away or step back it's cash. Mid post fades, mid range stepbacks and spin moves are a high % shot for me. But catch and shoot on the wing or 3pt line like Klay is ASS. I'm wondering if I just need to incorporate loading my hips more or jumping higher on the 3pt shot? I jump high on mid range and closer shots, but don't jump very high when shooting long range shots. Ugh

    I think curry shoots as well as he does because of his repetition and footwork. I feel like the angle of his body and fluid motion affect his shot a lot more than his fingers. Everything is a specific way and angle, plus his body tilts away from the basket a lot and my theory is that his thumb counter acts against this angle

    dawg i think thumbflick is the way to go. i workout bro, everyday. i was about to join the marines till my knee broke. but what i noticed is i would have to work extra hard with out my thumb and that would strain my deltoid or shoulders if i played consistent 4 days straight . but thumb flick would cancel all that out no shoulder/deltoid pain. and more consistent straighter stronger shots.

  • @omar7412
    @omar7412 3 года назад +1

    i agree with most of the stuff that you said except the fact that you shouldn't add a thumb flick to your shot. Everyone is different obviously, but I used to have a thumb flick and when i stopped using it i had a better shot. My shot improved even more when i readded my thumb flick. Why? becuase before i was flicking my thumb wrong, i realised that there is a correct and incorrect way to flick your thumb, idk how to explain it without a visual but basically the correct way to do it is shooting the same way you would without a flick but tucking your thumb in while your off hand is leaving the ball. i recommend everyone should try it but make sure to be doing it the same way curry does it.

    I’m trying to shape my form like Michael Jordan. I’m doing things differently than usual. I will be shaping my jump shot around my game. Nothing is more beautiful to me personally than the mid range and post game with that gorgeous fade-away. But when I try and move my set point to around the side of my eye/head, my forearm feels so tight and tired. I have big hands but not nba shooting guards like mikes hands. Do you have any tips for doing this?

My problem is the midrange I cant hit midrange jumpers which is pretty odd. Should i just start from scratch? I did a workout earlier my free throw is 92/100 and threes is around 65/100 i have a hard time shooting on the corner since it’s closer. But the flick helps me balance the ball more. I shoot with an offhand thumb flick, and I don't shoot very consistent. Ive tried to change it to a regular form but it just doesn't work. It feels like shooting with one hand. Should I keep the offhand thumb flick?

    With my thumb flick I feel like it limits me because I couldn’t be able to raise my form with is why I wanna tweak my form but I always go back with the thumb flick because I can shoot really well with it

    Curry doesn’t actually, if you slow it down you will see the ball releases from his hand before the thumb flick

    Can you do something like how to take stable Jump shots if you have smaller hands? I can hit shots when stepping in and catch and shoot however when I'm shooting off a dribble there are times that I don't have good position of the ball because of my smaller hands. So it sometimes end up not properly release.
