I'm doing NaNo officially for the first time so I set up a "medal" ranking for final word counts. Bronze is 30-35k Silver is 40-45k and Gold is 50k and above. I'm striving for gold but getting bronze or silver will be good too.
I'm working on a sequel to the book I wrote last year. I'm hoping to get through the first 50k of a rough draft or at the very least 30k. I don't call it a zero draft because I plan so it's more of a rough than a zero.
I'm not on instagram so I won't join the giveaway, but they do look nice. I might get one for my mom for Christmas

I did NaNo for the first time many years ago and finally finished my novel, it's definitely a HUGE motivator. I spent the next 2 Nano's revising (mostly rewriting) the book, which eventually became my debut. This is the first time in years I've fallen on the time where I was ready to write a project in November so I'm so happy to get in on the excitement this year. Good luck Alexis and I'd love to enter the giveaway. :0)

This will be my 4th NaNo and my tip is: use the days where you are motivated (usually the first few and then the last few) to get as much words as possible in. There will be slump days and you can survive those better if you power through the good ones! Happy writing everyone!! 🌟

Dude, Clever Fox planners are my jam. I recently bought one for a bullet journal and it is soooo worth it. The price was really inexpensive ($10 if I remember correctly), and the paper is to die for. Zebra Midliners don't bleed at all, and sharpies--fracking sharpies--only ghost slightly on the paper. 10/10, would highly recommend if you're just getting into bullet journaling and you don't want to drop $30+ on a planner.

Entering the giveaway. I've never used Instagram before, so I made an account just to follow Clever Fox and Alexa. :)
For NaNo I'm writing a novel about a girl born with magic abilities she thinks are evil. She never uses the abilities but just having them makes her hate herself. She meets someone else with the same abilities and projects all of her self hatred onto him. In the end she needs to trust him and use her abilities to save the day. She learns that her choices are far more important than what she is capable of. I've never participated in NaNo or finished a first draft before. I'm hoping this story can be the first.

WOAH That sounds cool! I'm writing something that just spontaneously generated itself in the middle of October. Okay, technically it's a spawn of another idea I had before, but it really was sudden. I was just listening to Lenni-Kim (I think Plus Fort?), and my brain went, HEY! What if THIS?! So I went, YES! What IF that?! And immediately started drawing out the story. and THEN, in the middle of doing THAT, my brain went, HEY! I have an idea! Your other idea is nowhere and you don't want to stop thinking about this anyway, so why not just change your mind way too close to the end of Preptober and just _decide_ to make this random thing that you literally just thought of not even a week ago your new project??? So I went, Sure! Sounds like a GREAT idea!! and proceeded to continue outlining as fast as I could. It's been 2 weeks and I'm almost done with the outline. I've also written a few of the scenes and _Hylia_ I hope this goes well.

I love a good planner, and these Clever Fox ones look AMAZING. I'd use it for tracking my soap-making progress, but I'll probably find the most value in actually taking a little time every day to figure out what needs done and how well I did at getting there -- I really don't know my own limits as well as I probably should, so a 13 week intensive dive into how I actually function could really help me restructure things in a way that'll help me accomplish my goals without overwhelming myself.

I know this video was posted several years ago but I thought I would add that NaNo's tracking page and target goal settings can be set ANY time. I have used NaNo's project page several times now and I set a custom goals for a project. For example: in 2022 I tried NaNo but I just had too many things going on in November. So in December I went back and set a goal starting on Dec 7th and my deadline was Feb 13th and I set my target at 110K words. It was much less stress and I ended up hitting 120K by the end (I knew I would cut 30K but that was okay). I would rather have extra to trim than feel like there were major holes. This off season NaNo approach worked really well for me. If I need comradery, I can reach out, but I can get the private tracking and keep myself on task.

A planner like that would totally help me with making sure I write every day, as well as keep track of a diet and exercise plan, because, well, those aren't habits to me yet. And if I don't write it down, then I basically never do it.

I subbed to the Clever Fox channel and followed them on Instagram, so maybe I'll at least pick up some tips and tricks from them about planning in general, which I also love.
I'm not officially participating in NaNo, but I do plan to work on the second book in the series I'm writing with my bestie. Never been great at tracking word counts--or anything, for that matter--but I still like the motivational aspect of NaNo. I love joining in on livestreams to do sprints. They really help! A few of my go-to's have been Sarah Scharnweber, Aphrodite Lee, Natalia Leigh, and Mandi Lynn. There are lots of others, too. It's fun just to jump in and join in on the conversation, even if you're not doing any writing! I joined in on a couple of livestreams while finishing up my last round of edits for the first book in the series. It helped motivate me to keep going and get it done!
Good luck to everyone entering the contest and to anyone participating in NaNo, officially or unofficially! 😊

This will be my 4th NaNo and I've won all three previous years :) My top tip is to use your excitement and motivation at the beginning of the month to get huge word counts in during the first 5-7 days. There will be days later in the month when you're too tired, you get sick, emergencies happen, THANKSGIVING happens, etc. Those extra words from the beginning is a great bit of padding so you can skip a day or two and not get behind.
    Good luck, everyone!

I love, love journals... I do most of my drafting, writing, ideas, etc, in notebooks and have had them since I was a wee young lass! This one looks really cool! I just finished my latest writing project (3 months of drafting, 6 months of writing and revising), but right now I'm having a 2-3 month rumspringa to just get creative, play, write blogs, short stories, ideas, first lines, character ideas, just whatever! While I'm waiting to hear back from some queries, full MS request, etc, etc, etc... Waiting... waiting... I don't want to talk about it. So, would be interesting to use the journal to track the creative flow or build on ideas, etc. I'm a pen & paper drafter type. Or maybe save it for my next project? I don't know. Kinda want to get it in my hands on it and then decide. :) It's all about what it speaks to me!

Would love to win a planner. I’d use it for writing goals.
Good tips! My favorite NaNoWriMo survival go to is word sprints! My fav oddball go to is red or black nail polish. It gets me jazzed for some reason. Probably the boldness of the colors💋💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽

This planner sounds like the perfect thing for my planters personality! I’d love to use this to keep myself on track for my first novel that will be part of a trilogy that I’m starting for NaNoWriMo! It’s going to be a new adult trilogy following a boy who is a shifter. He and his twin sister want to change some old traditions in their community but realize The Council would rather go to war than change their ways. MC will be finding himself and rise above his fears while his twin slowly breaks under pressure and becomes a bit mentally unstable. She didn’t realize the cost of opposing The Council while MC comes to terms that they need to finish what they started. I feel like this is a bad explanation 😂 But I’m so excited for this! I’d love a chance to win this planner because I am about to start a new job that will be taking a lot of my time but I’m determined to participate in NaNo this year and would love a way to sort my life to be successful in my job and my writing. I’ve started following Clever Fox on YT and IG. Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity! 💜

I'd use that planner for revisiting (read: finishing) my NaNo novel I did for 2018! I won NaNo but I didn't finish the manuscript.

Hi Alexa! Thank you for the tips as always!
    For the giveaway:
For a planner like that it ironically fits perfectly in the goal range I want to finish my novel in! I've been struggling to write due to work or school or life for the past year but through the support of friends and family and actually a lot of help came from your videos (they're hugely motivating, even the harsh ones XD) it feels possible to finish it in the next 3 months. Nothing surprising, I just really love writing about my assassin girl trying to get her ducks (loved ones) in a row so they don't get themselves killed including a prince who attracts more targets on his back than an x marks the spot on a map. They've got plenty of fun with invaders, not so secret competing royalty, and gods all after them. I can hope to fit squishy, heart-tug feels in all that, right?
Either way, thank you for all your incredibly helpful advice! You don't know how much you've helped me these last few months. You are the best!

I'm participating this NaNoWriMo! Working on a fantasy novel and I'm thinking I'll most likely end up working on this specific novel for most of this upcoming year, with the aim of editing and revising next NaNo. We'll see how that goes lol.
Thank you for the warning concerning fantasy novel word counts, I wasn't actually aware of that prior to watching your video so yeah! Good things, good things! Tis why my current tentative plan is to work on my novel for the next year with the goal of editing/revising next NaNo. Again, we'll see how that goes (chronic pantser here attempting to borrow the ways of the planner XD)

@@chrissycook7673 in a way yes. I made writing goals that forced me to write at a faster pace without stopping for grammar or sentence structure till i was finished reaching or passing my goal. Lately ive avoided making goals like that. I know i need to again.

Oh, those planners...😻 I’m entering the giveaway because I’d definitely use one for novel planning. I also just love paper planners in general, but am kind of terrible at using them for an entire year. Three months sounds pretty manageable.😆

Thank you for this wonderful video. I have been a member of the NaNo website since 2014 but have never really participated. This year, I am taking that scary plunge. Don't know if there's any water in that pool, but hey, I'm diving in anyway. LOL!

I'm am participating again this year.
My last successful Nano is still being worked on. it's now over 200K words. I'm certain I may be splitting the story into two novels or more.
I find that having a good strong start really sets the tone and pace for the rest of my month. I always try and get Halloween off anyways, and bonus, I can start Nano at Midnight (Since I work 3rd shift and up at that time anyways.) if I can get ahead of schedule by one or two days on that first day, I feel pretty good and confident about continuing at a good pace.

I would love to use the Clever Fox planner as I work to complete my current WIP, a middle grades novel about two children who try to find a cure for cancer after their science teacher is diagnosed.
It would be just the type of organization that would help me as I work to bring this beast to life. :)

Physical planners aren't my jam because eeeh, I can't see it but I know these are really cool for fellow writers.
I do everything on my phone or tablet. Also, I'm flexible with my NaNo, otherwise I'm gonna go nuts. I'm gonna focus on finishing book 2. I'm at the very end of the book and I've been stuck for months. We'll see.

This is my 6th year doing NaNo but my first year trying to write a novel during it ajkksdbvbaf Usually I do fanfic or comic scripts (the only year I 'won' was with a comic script actually!) and I'm never like...overly serious about it, but at the same time the existence of NaNo and the community surrounding it has been one of the only things that got me through some really tough times. My only tip really is to take a breath, relax and have fun with it!

I'm super excited that Nano is starting on a friday. Over the weekend I can build up a word surplus on the energy of the first few days. I recommend people do try and overshoot by 50 or 100 words so you can build a cushion for slower days in the middle of the month.
