There’s an eclectic mix of producers, writers, and sounds here! I feel like she took those two big challenges (sophomore album and Best New Artist) and went... “ok it’s for real, I got this” and delivered something really special!
I totally agree with your overall thoughts. I loved New Rules but I really thought Dua would be a blip in the charts. The features over the next year did impress me (One Kiss, Kiss & Make Up) but I still didn't really know. Then she went and knocked me out with Don't Start Now and now I haven't stopped listening to Future Nostalgia since it was released.
There’s never been a Best New Artist curse. Mariah, Christina, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5, John Legend and Adele are some of the winners who enjoyed success even after they’d won.
What are your thoughts on the Dua tracks that leaked around the time of the album? (25/8, Ball and Chain, Berlin Summer, Love is Religion, Jealousy, Cherry, and If It Ain’t Me ft Normani)
A lot of those tracks from what I read on Genius and heard from them seem to come from earlier sessions for this album. A lot of them nearly made the cut, I recall a leak had Ball and Chain on the track listing as late as November last year! I think it was for the best they were left off, Ball and Chain could have fit but I think Dua and her team wanted an immaculate bloat-free CD. I wouldn’t be opposed to them being reworked and released for a Future Nostalgia: Complete Edition at some point! I adored 25/8 and Love is Religion a lot (as well as B&C.) Cherry felt like a DL1 track! Jealousy is a bop! It’s a shame If It Ain’t Me was dropped too! Normani deserves hella exposure. I could see them gifting the track to a film soundtrack one day.
Still baffled that 'Cool' hasn't been released as a single yet and most probably will never be... It's like Peacock or Hummingbird Heartbeat off of Teenage Dream - simply a hit that got away... And the fact that it was co-written by one of my favorite underground pop girls Tove Lo makes it even better!!!
I think it’s just a casualty of being a deep cut off a very well-made pop album but agreed that it feels like it was a smash that never was. God, Tove deserved so much love. Truly a talented writer and performer that needs more attention.
Enjoyed the whole album.. love again like a guess its interesting it referenced the Star Wars tune but hearing it out of context is kind of weird...My impression is like it’s some weird remix now
Eljohn Macaranas just came across the 1997 song white town - your woman which also also samples the imperial march.. I guess yeah whatever future nostalgia nice...
this album is REALLY awesome, but it's not the best of 2020, that'd be fetch the bolt cutters (fiona apple), in second place we'd have punisher (phoebe bridgers) and third folklore (taylor swift), then future nostalgia (dua lipa)
Good call l on nailing levitating as the big song. Within a year it was everyone's most played track. It took so long for this record to break. I love dua lipa
Levitating was robbed from number 1, like it’s a classic and probably within her top 3 songs of all time in terms of popularity like probably just behind New Rules and DSN
@@EljohnMacaranasit'll probably be remembered as her signature song, too bad it was exposed for being a copy of another song. It was too close to be a coincidence. For the record levitating was better than the song they ripped off lol
This album still blows me away everytime I listen to it and it's a comfort album for me I listened to this album everyday during Covid and I still listen to it all the time and it's probably my all time favorite album
Eljohn Macaranas aye I’m glad you like them too. Dua really broke my boys heart, Malibu Nights is a devastating pop record. It’s helped me a lot as well as I had a similar experience. Seen them a couple of times live too and can confirm Paul’s vocals are great live too. my friends are day one stans so I’ve got to say hi a few times. They’re all such sweet lads.
Basically, a non-single track that only fans would know if they listened to the record. Love Again would be an example of one from Future Nostalgia assuming she doesn’t release it.
My top three rn: Levitating, Good in Bed, and Cool! Fight me! It’ll change in a week though 😂
I used to dislike Dua, but this album HITS. She really topped herself. This era is stunning and it is pop perfection.

The taste jumped out!

@@EljohnMacaranas The fact that Tove's albums after QOTC flew under the radar proves there's something wrong with this world 🙃
Top 3: Don't start now, Levitating and Love Again
I thought that good in bed sounded like early 00' Lilly Allen too!
She won 2 Grammys so she was saved
One for Electricity and another for BNA and probably some noms next year for Future Nostalgia and Don’t Start Now (which is pretty impressive)

Love Again is so fun! Maybe she’s an Anidala shipper?

Future Nostalgia is the new version of Teenage Dream way back 2010
I don’t disagree, I think it’s the closest record in years to sort of be that kind of era. As a sophomore record that really established a star.
top 3: love again, break my heart, dont start now

It’s up there for sure, I’m glad FN took home a best pop vocal trophy!
Great video keep up the work 👍

Wondering what you think of LANY. The pop band with Dua’s ex as the front man, I personally love them.
I love their stuff! Paul has such a gorgeous voice! Thick and Thin came on as I saw this actually so I’m kinda shook rn! I’m excited for Mama’s Boy!
