    It’s like Christmas unpacking. Someone stated in an earlier video that that front zipper makes it so rain can get in. Sorry I was in a rainstorm recently and the inside of my pack was dry! Love the zipper, makes access to things in the bottom easy! Love my Ventus too. Daily wearing it on windy cold Lake Michigan walks.

    I have this pack and I LOVE IT. It has a ton of useful pockets, the zipper makes entry into the pack super easy and it's just plain comfortable and light. I had a double mastectomy for breast cancer last year and this is the only pack that feels comfortable on my shoulders and chest. I can even carry a two-part fishing pole in the big pockets. My only gripe is that I wish the waist pockets - which are so useful - had more "slant", so that they were easier to zip and unzip. I did my first overnight hike this summer. It carried everything I needed and felt GOOD. As a daypack, with less gear, I take out the metal frame pieces and it is good to go. Love it!

    I think this is pretty brilliant marketing for Outdoor Vitals. It humanizes the brand, and shows that the guys designing the gear are using it out there in the real world with regular folks, not just sponsored thru-hike athletes who may have a different perspective on backpacking than your typical weekend warrior.
    It would have been interesting to see you give some honest feedback when Tayson asked you during the car ride back. Maybe you did, but later edited out that footage.

    • @DanBecker
      @DanBecker  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! Yes we talked at length many times off camera. It’s tough to give critical feedback on most of the gear we used because it was prototype testing gear. I have made several suggestions on pieces of gear throughout the process. Plus I legitimately had no clue what was in the pack so it was mostly seeing/using the gear for the first time. When he asked me at the end if I liked it, I definitely did. But the video just felt like it needed to ‘end’ at that point so we made the editing decision to cut there since this wasn’t necessarily a gear review video.

I have a friend who is recent handicapped due to an injury that was an avid outdoors person prior and is adamant on doing as much as they can themselves and I would love to give them the tools to be able to do so? I understand that yeah sometimes you can go around, but sometimes you can't. Did you and crew just lift her over or did she have her own way?

    How funny! I bought that same can of air in Lone Pine thinking it might help on my 2nd time up whitney. It didn't but I kept it because I bought a freaking can of air! The funniest part is that it feels like you just bought an absolutely empty can....which you did. the reinvention of the pet rock.

    Excellent video Dan. It's great fun when friends are taking shots at you. But the lime and hot pink bag matches your facial colours and the fleece coat goes well with the bag. Hahaha

    I was part of the Kickstarter for the Ventus and received mine a week and a half ago. I have worn it outside every day since. It is indeed fantastic. Superb piece of gear.

    Totally off-topic, but I bought the Alto TR1 after looking for a 1P tent that is ultralight and after watching your coupld videos lately about the Nemo, BA and S2S tents. I almost was gonna wait on a Nemo Hornet, however, after closer inspection, what I found interesting about the Alto TR1, is that the area under the fly (that is many times staked out on 1P tents even though there's no door), actually extends the floor out under that portion of the fly isntead of making a straight bathtub, and just entirely wasting that space. Being around 40" tall, and having that extra space makes it feel just that much more spacious for a 1P tent.
    Also, I wanted to have a backpacking tent on hand (I haven't had a chance to do a backpacking trip but didn't want to pack my 4.5 lb 1P tent) and everyone always seems sold out and the TR1 wasn't. lol

      Hey - thanks for this. I've had my eye on the Alto TR 1/2 ; they're more expensive than I'd usually spend but the shape and roll up fly made me think they might feel larger inside than comparable tents, so it's great to hear someone's unsolicited affirmation ! The one other concern is whether the floor is gonna hold up under the paws of my 30ish lb mostly-Beagley companion - I know this applies to a large # of UL tents, but I've seen a few reviews for the Altos specifically questioning the fabric's potential lack of durability, but no one seems to have one long enough to determine whether or not their concern was warranted.

      @@TabethaAurochs So I took the tent out the other day to a campground to try it out. Honestly, I do love it. I have an Alps Mountaineering 1P tent and I don't like it because it's just so narrow, and frankly short. And while stuff like 1P tents are probably best for backpacking where you only sleep and pack up and don't live in it for a few days straight at say a campground, I know a lot of people take 2P for the extra space. While it's not a full other person's worth of space in the TR1, like I said that extra pull out area gives you some extra wiggle room to not make it feel claustrophobic.
      Now about expensive, when it comes to lightweight tents, you are paying for that more expensive material and also, hopefully, a better build quality. The build quality is excellent in my opinion along with the material definitely being premium and the way it goes together is really well thought out. So that's really what you are paying for: the material and a good build. And 20 Denier is just more expensive by default. But, I would say, for the price, definitely worth it. They didn't skimp imo.
      But that thin material, as you noticed, also may be a drawback, because I also would question how it might hold up to an animal that isn't going to know how to be careful...lol. (Side Note: The TR1 is definitely not enough extra room for an animal.) But the material, I would say it may be an iffy choice. But then again, I don't know. Maybe it's just fine and you just need to bring extra padding for the dog to be on (though of course, that can slide). That is definitely not something I would be comfortable definitely making a recommendation about, but I can say the material is thin and you will know it. But, that's what Ultralight means usually: good material, but delicate. Maybe there are videos talking about ultralight tents in general in conjunction with animals? Or maybe there are articles about that somewhere?

    Lmao!! Poor Dan!.. As for their puffy very nice!! I have a mountain hardwear lamina z-flame 22 degree sleeping bag (Love it!) that has laminated seams (no stitching) similar to what you got going on with this blue puffy. The insulation in that sleeping bag is actually similar too (thermal Q). Synthetic that acts like down. Very moisture resistant and warm, lightweight. Outdoor vitals are definitely stepping up their game in the gear world! Love the new puffy and the new trekking pole tent or tarp both look very nice! I would use either. Stay safe! Hike on!
