This looks fun! Almost seems like the Whose Line skits where one of them is in front of a green screen and trying to guess what he is a news commentator on based on the others clues! Except in this, the ones giving clues are trying to find who the commentator is.
Right. I got this one and it is best buy at Essen Spiel 14 (aside Imperial Assault)… but then I passed Colt Express… which I probably should have bought!
The worst about this game is actually that you don’t have copies of the center image with all possibilities for each players … so that they can easily look at those pictures (the spy, and also the non spies)… Remembering all these is really for pros and re-play… and I agree with Dan, for most groups: lay it down in the center of the table.
Hey Dan (and others who like this game), if you like Spyfall I'd highly recommend "Faking It" the app by Scott Nicholson. We tried it directly after playing Spyfall 4 player and being disappointed by it. It takes away the Q&A restraints of Spyfall and makes it into a conversation. We had A LOT more fun with it and the app is free. Just a heads up. Would make an interesting review as well. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=appinventor.ai_scottnicholson.FakingIt
Why not just play Spyfall without the Q&A then? However, I enjoy the Q&A since it has an interrogation feel/aspect and is more structured/direct. Besides, conversation can occur during the Q&A so you can have both.
Wish the mechanic made SOME thematic sense... You're a spy blending into a group and don't know where you are?! I get its a party game that's just made simple for big groups to be fun but it just feels weird Is the spy blind like wtf? Just irks me But looks fun for a larger game group hope it wouldn't cost more than 20 dollars for a stack of sets of identical cards
Ryutekken you are right, it is a little off… I know…. but simply replace spy with detective and regular guy with criminal and you are there. … you maybe won’t like it but you could also replace the spy with a terrorist and you’d be also there. Just think of CIA and KGB and it is less worse to many… Find a group of enemy spies that hide in one place… nuke all of em. James Bond Style. Now you see… it is less offensive as soon as it is “the good guys” (reminds me of Imperial Assault and the millions dying on the death star’s explosion). In one case you would try to find out where all the criminals hide, like in 7 golden men or something, in the other case one is the terrorist and tries to kill a group of people… I know bad theme, but then you are only offended cause you care, whereas for pandemic almost no one gets offended, safe me memoir 44 and all that… so well ;-p.
ionas82 so how easy it was for you to come up with that idea... That just screams lazy from the developer who wanted to use the name "spyfall" to most likely trick people mistaking it for the name Skyfall (007) Pathetic
Ryutekken You are totally right, but then there are games that totally lack theme. Like for instance the overhyped Splendor… and others simply don’t transport their theme at all.. like Port Royal of this year, then there are some that transport their theme but the mechanics simply suck - like Lords and Ladies. This is pretty much Dixit with a theme that works but doesn’t make sense if you think about it. If you don’t it works and feels and plays great. 3 of 2 thumbs up.
I don't know. I get the idea that the spy isn't THERE, he's just listening in. Or they're talking about it after the fact. You can justify it in a number of ways.
This game needs zip bags for each set of cards so that you have them separated. You could also separate them in any other way. The zip bags mostly make sure you don’t need sleeving. It won’t hurt though (but you will need a bigger set of zip bags then). You will need to have them separated and pick one of the sets for each round, randomly.

This game like a reverse version of game . In game Linq, two spy players know a secret word, while others dont.
Passed it in Essen. We were too tired for another game.. Damn! Must buy now..

Great review Dan , do you where can i buy this game online?
My guess is Asmodee will bring it over, since they brought over 2 other games from Hobby World
Unfortunately no where for the U.S right now. However it should be available in the spring of 2015 in the U.S
TheGameBoyGeek - Hi Quality Hi Energy Board Game Reviews and where can we buy it from Europe? (Spain). We don't care about english language
This and Star Wars Imperial Assault: Best Buys at Essen Spiel 14. Really really good game.

I did pay 15 EUR at Essen Spiel 14. But well… some games were really overpriced and others were really cheap at Spiel 14.

This game screams sleeving. Which I have no problem with. I sleeve everything.

Couldn't you break the game by just saying what your roll is?
Narrow it down to 2 people.
That would give away the location then.
