Been playing the game for 13 years without knowing anything about the lore lol. Figured it's about time to figure out what's actually been going on before diving into PoE 2
Lol never played before but PoE2 looks insane lol don't wanna sink hundreds of hours into PoE lol So, I'm here for the lore so I know what's going on. Did the same with Diablo 2
It's so fucked that you're genuinely the only really good source for lore of this game. I don't even know how you put it all together; the wiki is useless for it. Can't thank you enough for this whole series; it scratches that itch for me, and it's such a massive accomplishment to even be able to present the entire story in a way that makes sense.
PtProject was a kinda popular streamer with a unique very slow playstyle and lore videos, but he lost his shit after xbox one announcement and quit. I heard he started again at some point but don't know what he's up to now.
Recently got into this game, went in blind (no looking up guides) and am having a blast just playing the game and figuring it out as I go. Wanted to learn more about the lore and found this series, thanks so much for making these.
Tota is my first league. I was looking for a video on the lore of POE. Thanks to finding your channel, I have everything in a playlist from the very beginning.
Thank you for this, I've been playing PoE for quite a while now and one day I just thought "I should start caring about the lore". Looking forward for the other acts.
I LOVE this, holy crap, I can't wait for more. I've been playing POE for years but never paid much attention to the lore, and seeing the stuff about Kaom, Lioneye, Hyrri, the Lioneye's Fall jewel, etc. is super interesting.
Okay, so I've just started playing PoE and the one thing that stood out to me was the amount of lore. I searched for ages looking for something that could just talk the lore to me - similar to an audiobook. I had no luck. I then started taking lore excerpts from the PoE wiki and placing them into a text to speech. I'm so damn grateful to have found you. It's made my life so much easier, I've learnt so much, and it's saved so much time. Bless you ^-^
I came across this trying to find some lore videos for a friend and I'm really impressed. I watch/listen to various lore and mythology podcasts and not many of them find the perfect balance between telling the story, and adding their own 'extra commentary'. You have the perfect balance and you provide the information in an easy to learn way "don't worry about this now, I'll explain more later". Pleaaaase keep these coming. I've been playing PoE for years and barely knew ANYTHING (shame). My only criticism would be that the video panel is a little distracting only because it's clear you're reading a script. But I also totally understand wanting to get your name/face out there in the twitch world.
Thank you so much! It is definitely a script I've written out. I wish I had time to memorize it! But my main gig is streaming so you're spot on--wanted the face out there but dont have the extra hours to memorize. Hope its not too distracting and I'm so glad you enjoy it! A passion project of mine
Thank you so much for making this series! I'm doing a slow run through the game now before Harvest to catch up on the story. By the time you get to Act 3, there's so much information it begins to become convoluted. These videos were just what I needed to keep things coherent and move on confidently!
been playing this game for years and i still refuse to read the lore but your videos are clear and concise id love to learn the lore with your videos, thank you!
Great first video. Been playing poe 2 since early access launch but barely discovered your channel. Looking forward to watching the rest of the series.
I am almost finished with Act V, and have only loosely been following the story. I didn't realize that it is so deep. Your narration really brings it to life.
I have wanted this for so long and FINALLY someone did it! Instant sub for the effort. You have such a soothing voice that goes along so well, it was like you were made to tell the tale of Wraeclast to us all. And no creepyness here, but I had to constantly take my eyes back and forth between yours and the video in the background. Super beautiful!
3:30 Actually Kaom did not give permission. In the comics he was very pissed at Victario for dishonouring Karui way. "It is a dishonour for a man to kill another man from a distance." Kaom even said Hyrri betrayed him for the assault on Lioneyes men.
Hey! That's interesting. I dont have the comics but didnt pick this up reading the lore compilation. I wonder if that relates to Hyrri leaving with the Karui while Kaom and his 500 continued inland?
@@KittenCatNoodle Hi! Sorry if my comment came across a bit arsey was at work and tried typing it like 5 - 6 times whilst being interrupted lol. The Tavukai Coral Amulet gives a little insight with the flavour text, "Hyrri and her arrows broke the sacred code, damning herself." We fight Hyrri in Act 6 - I don't know if you've brought the video out yet but she is the "Dishonoured Queen". On the final? Carving it tells of the black spirit conquering kaom and that Hyrri has made the canoes ready for the rest. She was then probably murdered by her own people ? The unqiue Hyrri demise says she lost a lot of respect. Kind of sad. She helped the Karui win the fight but in return, got killed.
@@aaronh678 no didn't come across that way at all! I dont mind being corrected/revised, it's honestly helpful. Do you have evidence that the dishonoured queen is Hyrri? I had suspected, but couldn't find anything concrete!
@@KittenCatNoodle Erm I think the prophecy A Dishonourable Death with its flavour text points to it being her. Flavour text - "The dishonoured niece of the king is decisively laid to rest by her own bite." The king being Kaom and his niece being Hyrri. Hope this helps and I look forward to future videos! Before I stopped playing I wanted to do lore videos, since there wasn't any "good" ones out there. But yours scratches the itch :).
I know I'm late, just wanted to say I appreciate your videos a ton! For an ARPG there's a surprisingly dense bit of lore here and this series helps me parse it all out. Hello from MI!!!
What a nice way to start your day! I'm glad I found this video. I tend to just speed through the acts, knowing I miss lots of lore which I usually enjoy reading. You got yourself a subscriber. Thanks!
played poe years ago and there was only a small series that someone started but never finished, now I found this, thank you already in advance for making this series
Thank you so much for these! What a gem, I only wish I'd discovered your series sooner. It's amazing how many hours I have in this game with no clue about the lore - turns out its well thought out and fascinating stuff.
Listening while delivering mail; it works as a podcast too! Just finished all acts for the first time so luckily the names bring images to kind. Thanks for making these! Look forward to going through the playlist.
That was very enlightening, Kitten Cat Noodle, thank you. I mean it. :) I've been wondering about the lore of PoE myself; it's good to see it all tied up in a neat bow like this. Congrats on putting it together in such a neat video, and thanks for sharing it with us all!
Thank you for this! Always been too lazy to read all the text in-game to learn more about the lore, and I find it is really interesting, just like the game itself.
I have a question regarding Merveil. When we saw this memory from Cavas' perspective, he mentions "It's my Daresso! He sails back to me! I shall sing for him, and show him the way.". Yet, when we listen to it from Zana, we hear "No, turn away! Don't listen to my singing, you'll die upon the rocks! Turn away...! Turn away... Turn away.". What was this about?
Both Cavas and Zana can say both of those lines. First line is basic version, second one is extended (when you open a 4-way memory). Merveil saw Daresso's return in every passing ship, so she guided them to her only to be wrecked and eaten by her daughters. I guess the second line is her regaining her sanity for a moment.
@@ТарасДубинин Well... I actually realized something while doing a bit more digging. Cavas' full line is: "It's him! He sails back to me, my Daresso! I shall sing for him. I shall show him the way. It's my Daresso! He sails back to me! I shall sing for him, and show him the way.". Afterwards, he tells us: "The last vestiges of human thought in a woman consumed by madness... she saw her beloved in every passing ship, and sang to them all, never realizing their true fates." Zana's full line is: "It's him! He sails back to me, my Daresso! I shall sing for him. I shall show him the way. Come, my love. Come to me. We shall be together at last. No, turn away! Don't listen to my singing, you'll die upon the rocks! Turn away...! Turn away... Turn away..." Afterwards she tells us: "Was that Merveil? That poor woman. Somewhere within her monstrous form lived the woman she once was. What a terrible curse." So... I feel like Daresso never actually returned to Merveil, but she just thought that every ship that she came across had Daresso on it.
@@Timmytimmy123123Yep I think you've got it here. Daresso never returned, but Merveil always longed for him. She's a siren, so she lured sailors to her caverns (hence the ship graveyard) with her singing. These memories reveal she was somewhat mad and part of her believed these random sailors were Daresso returning.
