Tony! Toni! Tone! (pronounced (Ton EE)
Great song and reaction.... Please react to Lay your head on my pillow by them
A very nice reaction 😁! I see you have reacted to Tony! Toni! Tone! before (Anniversary, It Never Rains In Southern California, It Feels Good). Whatever You Want was the fourth single released from the 1990 Tony! Toni! Tone! album: The Revival. It was written by Carl Wheeler & D'wayne Wiggins and produced by Tony! Toni! Tone!. The song reached #1 on the R&B chart and #48 on the Hot 100. This was the group's first released single that did not feature Raphael Saadiq on lead vocals.
About The Group 🎸🥁🎷:
Tony! Toni! Tone! is a Soul/R&B/Jazz band from Oakland, California. It consisted of D'wayne Wiggins on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Raphael Saadiq (born Charles Ray Wiggins) on lead vocals and bass and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley on drums, keyboards and background vocals. Additional original founders of the group are choreographer/bassist Elijah "EB" Baker, songwriter/producer/keyboardist Antron "Ice Cream" Haile and producer/jazz guitarist John "Jubu" Smith. Originally, the band went by "Tony, Toni, Tone" as a joke until they realized that it "had a nice ring to it".
Tony! Toni! Tone! released their debut album: Who?, in 1988 which was followed up in 1990 with their album: The Revival. The group achieved their greatest commercial success with their double platinum album: Sons Of Soul, in 1993. The group disbanded after the release of their fourth album: House Of Music, in 1996 which many music critics cite as their best work.
After The Break-Up 🤕:
Raphael Saadiq released his first solo effort, the Top 20 Billboard hit "Ask Of You" for the Higher Learning soundtrack in 1995. Around the same time Raphael Saadiq became a much-sought-after R&B producer producing hits for many artists including: D'Angelo, Total and The Roots. Later in the 2000s, he started a solo career, releasing two albums: Instant Vintage (2002) and Ray Ray (2004). Regarding changing his surname to 'Saadiq' for a solo career in February 2009 Raphael stated to writer Pete Lewis of Blues & Soul: "I just wanted to have my own identity".
Lucy Pearl was an R&B supergroup formed in 1999 as the brainchild of Raphael Saadiq. The other members of Lucy Pearl were Dawn Robinson (En Vogue) and Ali Shaheed Muhammad (A Tribe Called Quest). They released their self-titled debut album in 2000. After releasing two singles "Dance Tonight" and "Don't Mess With My Man", Dawn Robinson left the group and was replaced by singer Joi. The new line-up released the track "Without You". The group split up shortly after releasing no other material.
In 2005, D'wayne Wiggins became the bandleader for the Weekends At the DL a television show hosted by comedian DL Hughley which aired on the Comedy Central cable network until 2006. D'wayne Wiggins solo album: Eyes Never Lie (2000), sold approximately 150,000 units.
Documentary & Lawsuits 🤐:
An in-depth documentary was produced by former group member Elijah Baker in 2020 concerning the break up of the group: Loyalty No Royalty, The Breakup Of Tony! Toni! Tone!. The full documentary is on RUclips.
Also, in 2020 the fired members of the R&B band Tony! Toni! Tone! have sued the remaining members for fraud and theft of advance and royalty money earned before their firing; a fact that was intentionally and fraudulently concealed by the remaining band members in order to split the fired members' earnings between themselves.
Elijah Baker, Antron Haile, and Carl Wheeler have sued their former band mates, D'wayne Wiggins, Raphael Saadiq aka Charlie Ray Wiggins (brother of D'Wayne Wiggins) and Timothy Christian Riley for fraudulent conduct in their failure to inform and pay advances and royalties earned pursuant to two (2) contracts (recording and publishing) executed by all the band members in August of 1989.
Mr. Baker alleges that he never received any royalties or advances for the double platinum album, "The Revival," an album that he is listed as a featured artist and band member; as was Antron Haile and Carl Wheeler. The Revival was the band's second album released; but the first album released after the Plaintiffs were added to the band pursuant to the two (2) contracts each signed contemporaneously with each other in Oakland California with Polygram Records.
Mr. Baker and the other Plaintiffs believe that because D'Wayne, Raphael and Timothy fired the band's long time manager Carlos Stanfield and its attorney, Barry K. Rothman, Esq., (deceased), who served as the band's "Grantor and Promisor" in the contracts with Polygram Records, they were left without any representation. These two (2) people were essential in solidifying the contracts with Polygram but were forced out by the Defendants in this case without the Plaintiffs' knowledge or participation. Defendants took over his (Rothman's) duties as their (Plaintiffs') Grantor and controlled every aspect of the band and its destiny. This move essentially placed (Plaintiffs) in a subordinate and vulnerable position under the contracts and at their (Defendants') mercy. Plaintiffs have alleged that through Defendants assumption of Mr. Rothman's duties, as the band's Grantor (and promisor) and thus their fiduciary, they had the duty to inform them about money they were owed and to pay it to them
