you totally got me engaged, I love chronicles about queer trying to survive in hollywood, and AI feels like art doomsday. and you have THE BEST "read my book" promo jokes EVER, can't wait for your tales! 😆
I love the genre bending he did in this book, and how he discussed such deep topics while still keeping it funny and entertaining Thanks so much for the recommendation, you're the best!
The best person to convince me to buy books again! Just finished Walking Practice and loved spending time in their brain. They definitely permeated the life of this dear reader! So dark but such brilliantly written dry, sarcastic, poignant humour.
Yayyyy! I *just* finished Bury Your Gays (a record for me, I take wayyyy too long to read/listen to books) and couldn’t wait to see what you had to say about it 😊 I was hooked from the very first chapter-from the horror and the humor (definitely ugly-laughed a few times) to the representation to the social commentary, it was just a knockout. I think I liked Camp Damascus just a smidge more for personal (queer autistic) reasons, but this was still a triumph and probably my favorite so far this year-‘til I finish Managing, of course 😉💜
Thanks for the review. 🙂I had no idea that Chuck Tingle has also published horror and I hate the "bury your gays" trope. So I am sure it's going to be an interesting book for me where this trope and more gets explored.
I preordered your book! Looking forward to it! I just finished the audiobook of Bury Your Gays and loved it. Two moments in particular stuck out to me: the song selection for that one scene in the woods - so creepy and haunting it would make it into a movie trailer if it were adapted into one. Second is the scene near the end with Lily. As a queer creative who found a successful niche in a difficult industry, I feel very strongly about supporting other creatives (especially those that capitalism would deem my direct competitors - i.e. other queer creatives in my niche). In a cold industry only concerned with the bottom line, we should do everything we can to uplift each other. So the Lily scene might not have been important to the plot, but it was really important to me. I appreciate that Chuck Tingle wrote it.
I can't wait to buy your book next month when I have the book budget again. Yay! If I had know about it two days earlier, I would have bought it today. Congratulations!
I paused in the middle of your video, and only came back here to finish it once I had finished the book, and I am glad I did! I hadn't read any of the reviews or anything except for the barest marketing copy before reading hte book, and I am glad I went in that blind. I don't think I enjoyed the story as much as you, and definitely not as much as Camp Damascus, but it was fun...
Thanks for the great review Willow, on your recommendation/review I’ve just started the book and love it. I have Camp Damascus on my TBR. Always looking for a good horror book to read.
In the midst of watching the video, Willow. I will surely think about purchasing your book, although unfortunately not a fan of horror, I can make an exception.
Hi Willow! I have a feeling the answer is no due to how self publishing with Amazon works, but is there any way for me to get a copy of your ebook on a device that's not a kindle? I really don't get on with physical books because of my disability and i own a kobo ereader
You can download the Kindle app for free to lots of different devices: phone, tablet, laptop. So that may be a good method? Otherwise, unfortunately not for the time being, I’m sorry! I would love to record an audiobook down the line though :)
Omg I just noticed how I screwed up the edit at 2:00 in such a cringe way! FIVE YEARS OF THIS CHANNEL AND I'VE NEVER DONE THAT BEFORE AHHHHHHHH
Never even noticed. But I get it. We are our own worst critics.
Isn’t that the truth 🙄
ahahahah! And I was thinking "did Willow forget the books she's talking about?"
For a moment, yeah, but the magic of editing is supposed to hide that 😭
