    Very good way of teaching ! He knows how "to drop light beam" on difficult phrases or tenses to get them more understandable and more easy to make out .

    Sir I have a problem. ...we have studied that if a auxiliary verb is followed by main verb then it is a verb phrase...ok but for eg. Wept bitterly. ...it is given. Then what phrase is this

    @james Is "when I got home" always dependent?
    For example when we use it as an answer:
    Q: When have you know it?
    A: When I got home ----> it stand alone :)

    A Clause is Batman, but a phrase is Robin. Robin needs Batman, but Batman can go solo, if he is independent ;)

    Need to clear a doubt. If an independent clause makes a complete sentence in itself, why do we call it a clause? Or is it that it would always be part of a sentence with a dependent clause?

      It's just another way to say sentence. It doesn't need a dependent clause to be an independent clause:)

    My summary ; phrases are batman with pick up , run off, while a clause is Superman showing time, reasons etc.. in a sentence showing dependent and independent clauses
