Hello! I was coming to explain that in Hongjoong's rap when he refers to the four letters in the name of Ateez, he is referring to the name of the group in Korean because in Hangul (native Korean alphabet) there are four syllables. Also Hongjoong when he wrote the rap he made sure that at the beginning of each line of his rap he had a syllable of the name so that at the end it would spell Ateez in Hangul too! Many times Hongjoong and Mingi play with the meanings of the words and the spelling of them, and when translated sometimes the meaning is lost. This is the group's first comeback, just two months after their debut! They had also thought to debut with Say my name or hala hala, but in the end they decided to start with Treasure and Pirate king and make a stronger comeback, that's why they said that in the lore "pirate king" comes after "Say my name". And at the end of this video you can hear the melody of Treasure. Thank you for giving Ateez a chance and getting to know their beautiful discography!
Fun Fact: Last October (2022) Say My Name chatted #1 in Korea almost 4 years after it’s release because there was this dance competition reality show on air in Korea, and the dancer that was in the lead was accused of plagiarizing your favorite dance move from this song. So all kinds of people who had never heard this song when Ateez first debuted looked it up on RUclips to see if the move was plagiarized and went,” hey, this is a bop!” And started listening to it on other platforms, bringing it back, and making it chart higher than it originally did when it was released.
This, and was it the song "wave" w hakuna matata, and I can't remember the girl group who basically sang to the whole melody in her song and just dropped the iconic hakuna matata
*Black Cat Nero, The Real, Don't Stop, Answer, Fireworks, To the beat, The leaders, The Ring, Cyberpunk, Rocky, Paradigm, Thanxx, Illusion, Win, Precious, Horizon..* ect lol basically there whole discography is a boop
The one in the middle that you asked about, who had red hair in Halazia is Woo Young. Changbin’s bestie, the joker, the one who is never serious and will do anything just to get a rise out of his bandmates. I’m a Hongjoong bias with a Jongho bias wrecker, but I’ve got to admit that I have a soft spot for Woo Young. You’ve got to respect that kind of dedication to mayhem.
okay but next def should be the leaders, you'll definitely like it!!! it's YOUR thing, trust us upd.: btw, you guessed seonghwa right! the guy with silver hair (and the red ones in halazia) is wooyoung. many ppl told you already, but he and changbin are true besties (on kingdom they literally called each other lovey and dovey lol). the other members that you'll learn are san (the guy with red hair in this video) and yunho (the guy with black hair sitting in front of the table). ahhhh i love how you are slowly becoming an atiny!
Glad you liked it! This is like Ateez's "anthem". Don't stop and Thanxx, even fireworks and some of their bsides are more your style, maybe Paradigm too. Turbulence I don't think you'll like tbh (it's a bit of a sad/comforting song), and answer is sorta heavy on the vocals too but it's important to their storyline. I can't wait for don't stop and Thanxx reactions though ❤️ you also really need to listen to bsides The leaders, to the beat, good lil boy, and win ❤️❤️
Three ATEEZ in a week is such a treat! The head roll boy with the red hair in Halazia is Wooyoung, he's got a really unique high tambour to his voice. Ateez followed Say My Name with HALA HALA so they followed a more main stream pop sound with that more experimental one. Still think you would love the B sides on The World album, Cyberpunk and The Ring especially
I think that you’ll notice more with Ateez that they are a vocally heavier group than skz. They’re like on the same coin but different sides, Ateez has more vocals, and skz has more rap. Even though Ateez has outstanding rappers I think their vocals especially stand out in their music. :)
I saw them live in Chicago back in November, and the Say My Name performance was in my top three of favorite stages. Granted there's nothing like +12,000 people shouting ATEEZ present to kick off the performance. It's my understanding that Say My Name is about identity, there are scenes where they're wearing name tags, so establishing both their group and member identities. Storyline wise HALATEEZ, AKA black pirates, also appear in the mv, and by the end the masks come off to reveal that they are an alter ego of the ATEEZ members. I have also heard interpretations about how the meaning is for people to call them when they are in trouble and together they can "fly high". Which plays into the lore that HALATEEZ calls the ATEEZ members for help in their universe (which is where both the Guerrilla and HALAZIA MVs take place in). Also, its important to take note that they are in a museum and Yoesang is trapped in a box; as there are two Kingdom stages that connect to this part of the story. So next are you checking out the title tracks from Treasure episode 3: Wave & Illusion (different vibes from what you've heard so far, but curious for your take on the lyrics). Also its not pronounced Youho but You-no.
Ateez and Stray Kids are my two ult groups for the exact same reasons… seeing you falling in love with them and appreciating thier story and talent just makes me soooo so happy. Love your videos 🧡🧡🧡
I've seen them live 3 times & there is nothing better than hearing thousands of people scream Ateez Present. This song also has a fan chant in it where we fans literally yell their names (in order from HongJoong to Jongho) - so we literally say their names while also yelling A to the Z. It's a very interactive song for fans & Ateez & it was really fun during soundcheck! Also the lore is a beast to follow & as a long time Atiny you won't understand it unless you read what the boys have said about it. With that said it's so much fun to find easter eggs!!!
Love the reaction as always! Gonna recommend The Leaders, To the Beat, Paradigm and Horizon! thank you for your reactions and always brightening our days with them
Yeah the layers in “In The Woods” are a very extreme example of vocal layering but it shows how powerful one persons voice can be when used multiple times together correctly! Ateez definitely hit that bag with the last chorus, I loved it!
@@TeddyGreyOS Honestly, it also made me think of Imogen Heap''s "Hide and Seek"! She recorded that song on a harmoniser which is an actual piece of hardware. It processes the vocals and modulates/shifts the pitch of the input and then layers them all... so it basically analyses the vocals and creates a synthesised harmony. It can be hooked up to a keyboard too, I think Jacob Collier also uses this sometimes for live performances I believe :)
About that hongjoong lyric, ateez in korean has four "letters"(actually syllables but no need to get too deep into it): 에(a)이(ee)티(tee)즈(jeu). Fun fact: they don't have the letter z in korean so they use j as a substitute :)
Say my name is my top fav song from Ateeze😃 but I like the whole band and their music, and styles they are really making music that can hook into your brain😆
My twins HATE going to the grocery store with me because i always do "the dance" while pushing the cart. Wait til answer........I get so much more embarrassing!!!
This song was my first Ateez song that I had heard and I started stanning them ever since. The key changed version of the chorus you kept going back to is also one of my fave parts of the song. It makes you feel like you're ascending if you just close your eyes during that part it's so cool.
Woo's head spin. It's one of my favorite things in life. Hongjoong's rap in the middle of this is one of my favorites too. And his mullet. And his dancing. And I love him. And freakin Halateez!! I think I just have to accept this might be one of my favorite Ateez songs. I listen to it on the way to work a lot to hype me up for the day. Now gonna go check out the Bon Iver song!
The Mmmm Oeeo is not either of them it was already a part of the track when Eden revealed it to them! Last year a guy from a dance crew ripped off that shopping cart dance. And Wooyoung straight called him out with the biting move which means something was stolen from another dancer. Afterward at the concert, this song was so deafening, if it weren't already because it is our anthem! Ateez present!!
There's a Japanese rock group you can find by typing "D Asagi" and in quite a few of their songs the main vocalist Asagi uses this layering technique. He usually either layers his own voice so that he's harmonizing with himself or he has the voices of his other members layered behind him for certain parts of the song. One example song for you is "orokashii ryuu no yume".
Hey Teddy, first I want to say thank you for the reaction. Ateez are always on fire 🔥. Last week I saw them in 2 concert days in Berlin and it was amazing. I can't describe it in words, how overwhelmed I have been since then. The crowd was amazing, when "say my name" starts. I hope you see them one day also live, it is a wonderful experience. Stay safe 🙏 I love your channel ❤️ Greetings from Germany 🇩🇪 Selina
2:13 😂😂😂😂 This was a fun song! I love the musicality 🙌🏼 Teddy - that “walking the dog” choreo become sooooo popular after this! There was even a brief controversy when a group from “Street Man Fighter” stole the move 👀
Another great reaction!! Some Ateez songs that aren’t too vocal heavy that you’ll enjoy their beats and everything else are: To The Beat, The Leaders, Fireworks both versions and from latest album: WDIG and New World ❤❤
It seems like you're going through their title tracks in order from the beginning so this is how I think you'll like them based off of what you've liked from other Kpop tracks. -Wave and Illusion: Both have a very summery vibe. I have a feeling they probably won't be your favorite, but I think you'd really like Utopia, a bside from this album -Answer: My personal favorite song, but it's not very rap heavy so it probably won't be your favorite either. I hope you like it tho. I'm super curious to see your reaction to Horizon, a bside from this album. -Thanxx: you will love this song. Super excited to see your reaction. You'll like To the Beat, a bside from this album -Fireworks: You will absolutely love this song and I'm stoked to see you react to it. You will love the bside The Leaders from this album as well (Hongjoong's rap in it so freaking good). -Eternal Sunshine: This probably won't be your favorite either. It's very different from Deja Vu which you've already reacted to, but not really your style either -The Real and Turbulence: You will really like The Real. Turbulence is another one of my favorite songs, but it's a very emotion filled song with very little rap. I'd love for you to react to it, but you probably won't like it as much as the others. -Rocky Boxer's Ver: Not really a title track since it's part of a Japanese Album, but I think you'll really like it. -Paradigm: Same as above, but you HAVE to react to this one. It's so so good. I can't wait to see your reaction to it. Possibly my favorite thing about Ateez is how diverse their discography is. If you stick their songs on shuffle, you never get two songs in a row that sound the same. I get that it's not everyone's favorite thing, but it's so cool to me that they can sing so many diverse styles and genres of songs while still having a distinct sound
I'M SO GLAD YOU LOVE THE LAST CHORUS TOO!!! it's literally my favourite thing in the world and gives me goosebumps every time!! idk what it is about that certain sound but it really makes me emotional
Another song that I loved 🤷🏻♀️ Genuinely becoming a fan here! I see what you mean by the Bon Iver reference and the layering, Mingi’s voice is weirdly unique anyway but that particular chorus part tickled my ears. I need to watch the dance performance of this! Loved your reaction Teddy. I’m on my Ateez discovery at the same time as you so I literally wait for you reactions before I listen to anything else by them🫠 Keep em coming ❤
The prechorus that you say sounds really familiar reminds me a lot of a sea shanty, not one in specific but it has that type of sound. Which is very cool & fitting since they have a pirate concept. Idk if maybe that's why it sounds familiar to you but that's what I think of when I hear it!
I think that when Hongjoong says their name is only four letters, he's referencing the Hangul spelling of Ateez = 에이티즈 (which isn't exactly four letters, more like four syllabic chunks 에 + 이 + 티 + 즈, but maybe when translating his line to English for the captions 'letters' was chosen even though it's not a direct 1:1, I don't know though, I'd have to look into it)
Yah, in translations I don't think I've ever seen the word "syllable" . Most often I see "letter" (which makes sense since their characters never stand alone). Occasionally, I've seen "word" used instead of "letter".
Head rolling guy is Wooyoung who is Changbin's best friend. You see him really supporting Binnie during Kingdom, it's too cute. A to the Z - Ateez - say my name. It was in the lyrics towards the end of the song 🙂👍 Recommend The leaders by Ateez but also Cyphers 1-4 by BTS
Thank you for your Ateez reactions. You got Seonghwa and Wooyoung (middle man and red hair in Halazia) right. I would recommend also the leaders. Also the ring, Sector one and the Real. The leaders doesnt have an MV but there is a good Live performance of 2022.
aaaaaaaaaaa i became an atiny during this era, how nostalgic. How you reacted to the driving dance is exactly how I reacted. To this day that move is so sick 😭8⃣🏴☠
The choreography is amazing i liked that characteristic step, I recommend Fireworks, Thanxx, Answer, Don't stop, utopia, thanks for continuing to react to Ateez ✨
Anze Skrube and Josh Smith, choreographers, made the move you love specially for ATEEZ! I think you should check out: the ring (no mv just audio maybe check concert clips?) paradigm (Japanese release mv) take me home (no mv but there should be clips from VR concert) cyberpunk (no mv but concert clip or audio) thanxx (another tt has a mv) to the beat (no mv audio) the leaders (no mv audio) mist (no mv concert clip from break the wall or fellowship tour) don’t stop (universe release mv)
You should watch that my music taste interview I think it was were Hongjoong explains he wrote his verse like an acrostic poem he's really creative af.
I had the same reaction to the part before the say my name chorus (the bridge I think) it sounds really familiar. I feel like I heard similar melodies in party music that is supposed to make you sing along but I can't come up with a title
9:21 - I don't know for sure on this one but I think it might be Yunho and Yeosang again! Or Yunho and Mingi perhaps, but Yunho's voice sticks out to me, maybe it's Yunho's voice layered on itself.
Teddy, thanks for all your great reactions of Ateez! I feel like you would really like ATEEZ ‘멋(The Real) (흥 : 興 Ver.), ATEEZ ROCKY (Boxers ver.), ATEEZ The Leaders, ATEEZ THANXX, ATEEZ DON´T STOP. Please do, I think you´d bless many of us who watches you with your reactions of these. And hopefully you´ll like´em!
OMG TEDDY I'VE JUST REALISED WHERE DID I HEAR THIS VOCAL TECHNIQUE THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT! idk if you heard it, but Ryan of american indi-pop band "AJR" used the same thing with his voice in "Call my Dad" song... idk but it sounds so similar to Bon Iver's "Woods" and kinda similar to Mingi's voice in "Say my name". you can try to listen to that, i guarantee it's actually the same technique or autotune thing!
Ik u will eventually listen to fireworks...but I wud highly recommend listening to its remix as well (the heat topping version)...mingi raps even faster in that...Also u need to listen to Take me Home cuz I'm sure u wud love it (it's a bside)
The fact that Ateez came second in the Korean groups that sing live and live, although she has difficult choreography, this did not prevent her from singing live. But I don't know who is in the first place with two teams participating in it, I think
I don't know if this is right, but they may have used a harmoniser! Or at least a harmoniser effect on whatever production software Eden uses to produce these! Its what Imogen Heap used to record "Hide and Seek" (along with a vocoder maybe?). It processes the vocals and modulates/shifts the pitch of the input and then layers them all... so it basically analyses the vocals and creates a synthesised harmony. It can be hooked up to a keyboard too! Another artist that uses it is Jacob Collier!
ok, I still decided to write a second comment about this. actually there are two subtexts in ateez songs. the first is the one that more or less everyone will understand and it is the most superficial - about how cool they are, and about other common topics. and the second subtext is something related to their lore, and it's a lot deeper than you think. I spent two days reading the existing official lore and fan theories, and the phrase "say my name" itself is the phrase that ateez sent to the "black pirate" rebels in the message that they saved yeosang from the bunker of the guards of the totalitarian world "strictland". in the texts there are also motifs of "fire and heat", "light and darkness", "time", "mirrors and reflections" (in "say my name", for example), "dreams and dreaming in a dream" (inception and deja vu) , "flowers", "doors and memories", "sensations and sense organs". in general, the more you want to understand what they are talking about in the songs, the better you need to understand the history of their universe. but I can say that I have never regretted that I plunged into their lore with my head!
Loved this enthusiast reaction ! How you react with your whole body on parts that makes this song so good to me (I still don't like the 5 first seconds, but I made peace with it xD). It was fun you pointing out the dance move that actually was recently stolen from them by a choreographer on a contest. A looot of people were talking about this. Wooyoung still refers to it from time to time xD Anyway the move is now definetely an Iconic and signature one.
Thanks for the background, so impressed with their songwriting.🧡
Was coming to the comments to mention that exactly but you nailed it! Couldn’t have explained it better myself 😊
thank you so much for the detailed info. 🥰

I can't wait for u to react to answer. It is such an amazing song! and cyberpunk too
YES because this my n°1fave Ateez song 🤩and in concert too
TEDDY!! U should react to wooyoung’s artist of the month with studio choom‼️ (wooyoung is indeed the one that had red in halazia)
OMG YES LETS GOOO
yes!! he did such an amazing job in his aotm vid! great suggestion!
YESSS OMG
it's impressive how quick he catch the song and be able to sing along at the first listening
ATINYs please rise for our national anthem!!! o7
As always an honest and fun reaction! Like Staykids and Ateez CL, G dragon and Zico also have amazing songs
Another song that I loved 🤷🏻♀️
Genuinely becoming a fan here!
I see what you mean by the Bon Iver reference and the layering, Mingi’s voice is weirdly unique anyway but that particular chorus part tickled my ears.
I need to watch the dance performance of this!
Loved your reaction Teddy. I’m on my Ateez discovery at the same time as you so I literally wait for you reactions before I listen to anything else by them🫠
Keep em coming ❤
The prechorus that you say sounds really familiar reminds me a lot of a sea shanty, not one in specific but it has that type of sound. Which is very cool & fitting since they have a pirate concept. Idk if maybe that's why it sounds familiar to you but that's what I think of when I hear it!
This is one of my fav songs from them because of everything you were talking about Teddy.
before HJ rap u always can hear "haha" but before Mingi rap u can also hear "fix on" its they signature...
Wooyoung is the one in the middle that you recognized from Halazia. He's my daughters bias 💜
It was in the lyrics towards the end of the song 🙂👍
Recommend The leaders by Ateez but also Cyphers 1-4 by BTS
if you like what they did here with their voices, then you'll definitely like win, fireworks, the leaders, the ring and where do i go 😗✌🏼
they are in London next week btw
Thank you for your Ateez reactions. You got Seonghwa and Wooyoung (middle man and red hair in Halazia) right. I would recommend also the leaders. Also the ring, Sector one and the Real. The leaders doesnt have an MV but there is a good Live performance of 2022.
OH you're going to like the leaders SO MUCH
Classic Ateez!! LOVE this song and ANSWER and probably all of their songs. lol Great reaction though!
ATEEZ Say My name STAGE MIX 🔥🔥🔥👌😎
still cant process that this was their first comeback after pirate king.... 4th gen leaders behaviour!!
Thanxx and don't stop next please ❤️❤️
aaaaaaaaaaa i became an atiny during this era, how nostalgic. How you reacted to the driving dance is exactly how I reacted. To this day that move is so sick 😭8⃣🏴☠
Volví a ver esta reacción 😃
ATEEZ es increíble!!!🌟💕🌟
The choreography is amazing i liked that characteristic step, I recommend Fireworks, Thanxx, Answer, Don't stop, utopia, thanks for continuing to react to Ateez ✨
Anze Skrube and Josh Smith, choreographers, made the move you love specially for ATEEZ!
I think you should check out:
the ring (no mv just audio maybe check concert clips?)
paradigm (Japanese release mv)
take me home (no mv but there should be clips from VR concert)
cyberpunk (no mv but concert clip or audio)
thanxx (another tt has a mv)
to the beat (no mv audio)
the leaders (no mv audio)
mist (no mv concert clip from break the wall or fellowship tour)
don’t stop (universe release mv)
I think you should check out Deja-Vu and some of the bsides! To the beat, the leaders, rocky (also has a Japanese mv) and Horizon are SO SO good!
Definitely do the leaders and to the beat
9:21 - I don't know for sure on this one but I think it might be Yunho and Yeosang again! Or Yunho and Mingi perhaps, but Yunho's voice sticks out to me, maybe it's Yunho's voice layered on itself.
The black cat nero is also good
Ateez name in hangeul (korean alphabet) is 에이티즈, it's 4 letters
I would love to see you react to their concert. It’s amazing
Awesome reaction! I love Say My Name. You should really check out Cyberpunk!
Four letters is referring to their korean name where it’s four letters as opposed to five in english
It's 4 in korean
에 이 티 즈
Is ATEEZ spelled in Hangul/korean alphabet. Koreans write based on syllables instead of individual letters.
The Black cat Niro it's very cool song)
This became one of my faves of theirs the MV is so cool!
@@MikaNicoB In this video, they are simply unreal, and the choreography is a separate topic altogether.
That one is wooyoung and yes he is the one with red hair in halazia 5:08
5:26, that's Wooyoung, Binnie's bestie
i recommend you thanxx and fireworks by ateez
and also their guerilla album is one of the best
OMG TEDDY I'VE JUST REALISED WHERE DID I HEAR THIS VOCAL TECHNIQUE THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT!
idk if you heard it, but Ryan of american indi-pop band "AJR" used the same thing with his voice in "Call my Dad" song... idk but it sounds so similar to Bon Iver's "Woods" and kinda similar to Mingi's voice in "Say my name". you can try to listen to that, i guarantee it's actually the same technique or autotune thing!
Ik u will eventually listen to fireworks...but I wud highly recommend listening to its remix as well (the heat topping version)...mingi raps even faster in that...Also u need to listen to Take me Home cuz I'm sure u wud love it (it's a bside)
check out paradigm 💪🏼💪🏼
The fact that Ateez came second in the Korean groups that sing live and live, although she has difficult choreography, this did not prevent her from singing live. But I don't know who is in the first place with two teams participating in it, I think
Fun fact: Hongjoong 's rap spells Ateez!
Fireworks next!!
Pleasseee do either Cyberpunk or Take me home by Ateez. there are no mvs to these songs but they slap you right into another universe.
one of my fav songs ever!
you made go go and check In the woods and I can relate to what you said
the day you’re gonna react to The Leaders, To The Beat and Rocky you’ll gonna burn everything down knowing u
You didn't even mention that they were in the Hala Hala outfits
I think they said 4 instead of 5 because it's 4 letters in Korean!! hangul focuses on syllables more, so it's like AY-E-TEE-Z
You make my ATINY heart so happy!
You can hear a little bit more of Mingi's Vocal on Illusion :)
ok, I still decided to write a second comment about this. actually there are two subtexts in ateez songs. the first is the one that more or less everyone will understand and it is the most superficial - about how cool they are, and about other common topics. and the second subtext is something related to their lore, and it's a lot deeper than you think.
It's four letter because ATEEZ pronounciation in Korea is E-I-TI-JEU/에이티즈 in Hangul.
