Today I'll be presenting a breakdown of my first paycheck as a New Grad Registered Nurse working in a prestigious hospital in Los Angeles. You'll want to watch this video all the way through as I'll break down current new grad rates (as of August, 2022) and give you a breakdown of how your nursing paycheck is divided up (taxes, retirement contributions, etc.).

Thank you for not dragging it out into a 25 minute video as others do
You’re welcome! It almost feels like there’s only so much you can say about the topic 😂
RIGHT!
Women talk a lot
It’s 2024 July and starting my new grad program In Aug. Starting wage is $56 an hour.
If you don’t mind me asking what city is this in? That’s an amazing starting rate!
Can I take your opinion, im about to turn 31 in a few days and I was thinking to get into flatbed and heavy hauling to make more money
My question is I been struggling taking a discussion if I should go heavy hauling or go to nursing for the work life balance. if I go for nursing, I will move to California I know nurses who make 5k a week after taxes but they work 60h a week and they drive an a hour a day
Others take home after taxes between 8and 9 k working 3 days
I can't make my mind on which one I should go with
Can you help me
New grad programs are HARD to get into at popular hospitals in SoCal. Why? Glut of new grads everywhere. There is no nursing shortage in SoCal.
Hi Isaac, I'm orginally from orange county ca. when I graduated nursing school i left to Oregon now im in southern Washington. Honestly i love cali but I'm making more money with less tax and easier cost of living in southern Washington. I started as a new grad in the cath lab and now I have 3 years of experience. Ive done the math and If i had stayed in so cal i would definitely have not been able to buy my 3 rental properties and primary residence within 3 years of working in so cal. I have thought about moving back and the numbers just don't work for me. Even if i can pull $75/hr with the amount of tax in cali i would be making little more than what im making up here.
That’s amazing that you’ve been able to get three rentals already! Definitely looking to move to a tax-free state myself
COL is out of control here in SoCal. 1 bedroom apartment is appx $2700+. New grad ADNs start at $39-$42/hr. Looking to leave and go live elsewhere w/ better pay. Magnet hospitals that pay more won't hire new grads w/o BSN. No shortage of nurses anywhere.
@@DSpirit22 Yah, I'm in southern WA and with overtime before taxes i made 7200 in 2 weeks last pay period
@@wedgepressure4313 Is your place still hiring? If so, I would be interested in contacting them.
@@DSpirit22 oh yeah they are always hiring and they have sign on bonuses but would not work the floor honestly. Idk what your specialty is but i work cath lab but cvicu and icu are great spots
It's peacehealth southwest
I work at ucla too
Nice! Where at?
@@isaac_lee RNPH psyche unit its easier their
Hw much u make 😂
Hi Isaac, great video. Comment about your paystub and your calculation stating that you made $12,000 in one month. That’s misleading. The paystub that you showed is not for your first paycheck but your first full (2 week) paycheck. You should just be looking at the columns under "current" not your year to date to quote how much you make per month. Your monthly rate would be the $4068.93 divided by 14 days, times 30 days, comes out to $8719.13 how much your equivalent monthly pay would be if you continue to earn same amount of over time the next 16 days.
No, I get paid weekly. This is my weekly pay.
Sorry for some reason I thought you were referring to my travel nursing pay video!
I’m looking to either relocate to SoCal or south Florida. By any chance do you know the pay difference in both states? I know Florida is tax free, but I’m just trying to see which state would be more cost efficient especially including COL. Would like the perspective of someone who is currently working in Cali. Btw, I’m a new grad
It really depends where in Florida you are trying to move! I know a few nurses out there who make anywhere between $35-45 per hour (Tampa, Jacksonville). I would assume that moving to a bigger city like Miami would increase your COL.
Hi! I am a new grad nurse applying to send my nclex scores from out of state to California. I still have not gotten permission to test yet. Anyone know how long it will take? I’m ready to get my exam over with
can i get some info or northern california aswell tyia
where in FL was a new grad working for $38/h? Even in Miami, I don't think that is a representative new grad RN salary....(?)
This was in 2019. Sorry if I didn’t specify in the video!
Was thinking the same thing, cause I started last year for 31.50 in 2023
And I am in Fl
How many hours you work in a week ? I am so stressed I just got offer letter for bscn and I wanna know how much I would make lol😊
36 hours per week!
was any work experience required when you first applied? if so, where would be a great place to build nursing experience?
No experience was required since this is a new grad position! You could definitely help your resume with a nurse aide position though if you don’t have your license yet!
@@isaac_lee thank you nice video btw!
@@Luis-oc2it thank you!
@@isaac_lee That's questionable. Some hiring managers won't pay you extra (consider your experience) for aide experience from what I've heard. They consider actual RN experience in pay offer.
Hi do you think i can work in cali as a new florida bsn graduate? Some people say its hard for some reason i dont understand
You absolutely can! The licensing process will take some time applying from out of state as a new grad but I think you’ll like better pay and nurse:patient ratios
@isaac_lee thank you for thr assurance 🥺 I'll do my best and will watch your videos to learn more too 👌
Damn the salary sounded good until i saw "prestigious hospital" hahaha. damn. I need an average hospital in LA T_T
Haha i feel you! It does have some of the highest new grad pay in LA. Cedars is comparable but with limited options for new grads
@@isaac_lee Yeah, i just think the salary you're getting paid is actually one that will allow you a decent life in LA. So i'd move to LA in a heartbeat for that kind of an offer.
Lol nobody wants to me to comifornia😂
