    Thank the Lord, Mr. Council survived this lynching and was able to tell his story. SO MANY, Black men, women, and children, were hung and there was no justice or a story to tell!! If the trees in America could talk, we would have a ribbon 🎀 on EVERY TREE in America!! Like the late great Billy Holiday sang, Strange Fruit!! God Bless you and your family, Mr. Council!! 🙏🏾💕

    Hes one of many black men and women who these horrible crimes were used against them. When they found the 3 civil rights workers in Mississippi they also found 8 other bodies all were black. No one knows except family members who may still be living just exactly how many more graves of unknown men and women of color that haven't been discovered. That former sheriff did what he did because there wasn't anyone who cared enough about my people to bring him to task. Fast forward to today.....no one ever thought the precious man would still be living and still have the ability to TELL HIS STORY. Im glad the new sheriff tried and corrected a horrific time in this precious man's life.

      Pam worly • Relatives ARE alive; whether, 1952 or 1964, when the Civil Rights workers were murdered. I, personally, was 1, in 1952, & 13 in 1964. My parents are still alive ; as well as older siblings & cousins. 1952, is RECENT history‼️ That woman who lied on Emmett Till, still alive❗😩

I have seen Hispanics in this country being discriminated and humiliated equally by white and blacks, unfortunately the black experience has transformed a whole lot of us, and some are as hateful as the white supremacist. I have seen black ladies insult Asian ladies for no particular reason, I have seen black man treat other black man especially from Africa and Haiti in awful ways. No my brothers and sisters our beloved race has been contaminated and infiltrated by hate and if we do not look at ourselves in the mirror, we will end up just like those white supremacists or worse. Half of the black people in my life friends/colleagues/family voted for Trump, and many said to hell with all those immigrants, and who cares about anyone else in this world, Trump gonna make us rich, they still broke, nothing changed.

    I can't understand why a human being would treat another human being that way. I also can't understand why a law enforcement official would deny anyone their civil rights. Prejudice is evil. Nothing good comes out of it. We need to stop seeing color and start seeing the inside of people. This man seems like a very respectable human being. You've experienced the life they only read or heard about, but still don't believe even though our great uncle was lynched in nineteen fifty five in Alabama..       I see your point and I agree with it. One of the things that helped Germany after WWII is that they did not erase all the bad history. They memorialized it so they would never forget and never let it happen again. They talk about it, they deal with it, they work on it. In the US, very little of that takes place. We must talk about the dark history and face it head on. We must see our wrongness and admit it and talk about it openly. We must never forget. Keep speaking out, sister

      It was a very bad time when the Quakers started leaving in the 1820's. It was good for the expansion of the underground railroad, but not good for NC; not good for white superiority and racism. Her father, born in 1900, died 20 years before my mother was born but at our house we keep 3 photos preserved; a wedding photo, a photo of him as a soldier and a group photo from South America; he travelled there by ship, don't know which one.

    I would have loved to hear more from the gentleman himself. To hear it told by another as most times makes you want to hear more from the individual of the situation.     The song Strange Fruit hanging from the trees so often ring in my ear when I hear stories like this....there are so many black men, women, and children that didn't survive to tell their story. I thank God Mr. Council were able too. SMH with tears
    My Great Uncle didn't survive...he was lynched because he stopped a white man from beating his brother...

    I'm right up the road from Apex and I'm 48 and awoman of color my daddy was treated so bad on his jobs he was called horrible names and I remember my daddy crying my mother told him they can't do this its against the law...SMH well it didn't matter they weren't going to investigate it because they all lied...He was a welder and his tank blew up not to long after that my daddy could have died I remember all the skin on his chest gone....

    What about Kevin Strickland, 40+ yrs wrongly imprisoned; enterd as a teen and left in a wheelchair he feared he'd be tipped out of once outside the prison gates.

    My grandfather can relate and left his home state of Indianapolis bc of the racism. Specifically from cops and judges. Ppl forget cops were once called slave patrol.... Did the presenter say "colored" smh. Not much has changed, only thing different is the level of exceptance. Not as many ppl are ok with racism today

      Colored was the term used in those days. I been going through some old documents since mother's death year agobin her 90s. My Birth Certificate parents Race/Color listed as Negro.
      Parents Marriage Certificate Race listed as Colored.

    I'm glad that they recognizes what they did to him and payed it forward by removing the man's brick and giving back by honoring the this man that was victimized by racism I'm glad that he was able to survive and be able to tell his story to the world about the 1952 lynching of African Americans

    They literally made Lynching a Hate Crime... A Hate Crime is under the same category as verbally calling someone thee "N" Word. This way THEY Can circumvent Murder. THEY Can kill someone and get a more lenient sentence because under the Law, a Hate Crime and Murder are two separate things. Discretion is Discrimination. How do Police Officers get 20 years or no punishment at all for killing people on Camera on purpose for no reason but, someone who eats a 25 cents candy bar without paying for it gets Life in Jail???
