As good in singles is too big a statement to make..because he was that good in doubles.. The guy had won multiple grandslams as a doubles player, so being as good means he will be a title contender in singles too which is very difficult to envisage at that time as his game was totally suited for the doubles section.. His weakness as a singles player is glaringly evident.. Far too many at that.. Not a great serve.. Poor groundstrokes but exceptional volley skills, u need to have a good serve and atleast a good forehand if not the backhand to be in the game in those times. His forehand was not great either but slightly better than average. He didn't have a great height either.. Hardly a person that short (by tennis standards) would use serve and volley tactics.. They rely on their groundstroke skills.. His movement was good but not like Michael Chang who himself didn't win much outside french open despite having pace and a very good backcourt game. Leander was of a different mould altogether... If he had a height over six feet and carried the same skills that he had.. Still i could have given it a thought.. But as i mentioned his game was not cutout to win titles in singles.

Leander Paes did not have the strength to continue since it was too hot and humid. Otherwise Leander Paes could have easily won this match. It all depends on the diet and food supplements that the players take. Agassi was far more stronger than Leander Paes.
