Sudden Conflict Review - DnD + MOBA Teamfights?

- We review Sudden Conflict, an asymmetrical battler where you take out your opponent's miniatures! This review mostly covers Galactic Throne (but with some Ukyo discussion), where you take 3 sci-fi characters to use movement points and unique abilities in the 2 maps provided. With rolling for most actions (like skill checks in DnD/TTRPGs), and teamwork like MOBA teamfighting (think league of legends or DOTA2), this provides a lot of a playground, especially if you want something more complicated than say Unmatched. Can there be drafting in future sets, like Valrona?

You guys should get around to reviewing Guards of Atlantis 2. Best MOBA tabletop game out there.
Played it, not sure if we'll get to doing a whole review since it's such a big game! It's something on the list for sure -Ashton

Agreed. It’s miles ahead anything else in the genre.
And the 2024 award for most unreadable box title goes to….
I can hear the client now:
1. Wow all three concepts look good, let’s put them together.
2. Maybe each has a different color.
3. Maybe a black hole, Magic thing behind the letters.
4. Maybe make the letters metallic.
5. More metallic.
7. (Twisted wreckage of the whole point) Perfect.
Yeah the whole box design is like an 80's throwback but not in a good way, curious to see price point though, I think for the size and components anything above $35 dollars would be crazy
yeah it certainly is a questionable accomplishment
man this game really looks and feels like it should be right up my alley but the UX just kills it for me.
Will def try it out on TTS or something assuming there will be a demo on the KS when it's live
It's a fighting game, sort of very tiny skirmish. I would not use any moba comparison myself since there are actually games that market as such e.g. Skytear. Also if you called moba on this one then Arena the Contest with a lot more characters and certain types and free combine setup rings a bell tad louder there.
using FG comparison? I'm intrigued.
Ashton, I really, really want to hear your thoughts on Vampire th Eternal Struggle 5th Edition Box (a self contained box with complete player decks for 5 players)
You like card games, so I would love to hear your thoughts on that one.

The part that is concerning is lack of balance of the characters. With the number of abilities they have balancing them out will be difficult. A very good idea but I'm not sold on how it is being done.

I actually would prefer if all the characters are "broken" by your descriptions. It's more chaotic fun for me personally if all the characters are "too powerful" (basically what Adumb said) especially if it's some casual dice chucking combat. Maybe it'd be less punishing and allow for more rolls if the characters had more health, though.
Have not finished the video, but really feels like Warhammer Undeworld covers this itch already
Huh. I dont know if "MOBA but board game" has been done before, but it's interesting for sure.

@@pepsi-man76 yeah they aren’t super known or anything. There’s only a small few, but if you’re interested in trying one Guards would be my recommendation. Just instead of Online in “MOBA” replace it with Offline 😅

Still not as good as Battle For Biternia for a "tabletop MOBA"
It seems more like an arena then a MOBA. There are no lanes, minions, bases, itens, none of the characteristic mechanics of a MOBA.
PS: I miss the war/strategy games reviews =/
yeah, it is definitely more a 'fight to the death' that embodies moba teamfighting. I think to have the minions, bases, laning, leveling, etc. the game would be a bit more inaccessible and hardcore (Skytear comes to mind). We got lots of strategy game reviews coming :D -Ashton
