    Guitar Discoveries Vacation Edition! Robert Cassard shares the smallest of Martin's "regular" guitars, the LX1e. Small, but with a surprisingly beefy string gauge and solid tone, which makes it a great vacation guitar. Plus it has a built-in Fishman pickup system, hence the "e" in the model number.
    All Martin LX1s come with a well-padded gig bag with a large outer pocket for accessories like a capo, picks, extra strings, etc. It's even large enough to hold a smartphone tripod and a Zoom H1 recorder!
    I've always traveled with my Martin Backpacker, but sometimes it doesn't feel "real" enough to keep up with larger dreadnoughts or live performing. (It also requires a strap to play.)
    For under $500, the LX1e is simply a great travel guitar with awesome flexibility and a great pickup system to boot.
    You can get one here or at any any Martin retailer:

    Is there two types of pickups in those guitars?? Fishman isys and sonitone??? And can u tell me witch one is better?? Great vid btw 😊

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  5 лет назад

      DMK thanks for your question. The LX1e specs seem to change a little each year, so there are guitars of various ages with pretty minor differences in the synthetic woods and the pickup features. Both the Isys and Sonitone use the same Sonicore pickup, so the sound is likely to be very similar if not identical. My guitar is a new model from 2018, and the pickup system has a combo battery box/1/4” jack on the lower corner of the guitar. Sometimes the Isys is top-mounted and may include a tuner.

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  5 лет назад

      DMK BTW-there’s an Ed Sheeran model of LX1e with a sapele top that definitely comes with a top-mounted Isys T pickup system. It’s about $50 more than a standard LX1e.

      So, the Isys is a slightly cleaner, better version of the Sonitone.

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  5 лет назад +2

      @@ianmorales7757 It could be cleaner and "better." My understanding is that the Sonitone and Isys pickups are identical, but the Isys offers on-board EQ so you can adjust tone to your needs. But I'm not a Fishman expert, even though I love the sound of their pickups!

    Hello Robert. The Martin you are playing seems to be a left handed one restrung right handed. Is it possible to convert one as my local store is offering a 100 dollar discount on the lefty little Martin instead of the righty one.

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  3 года назад

      Mine was right-handed from the start, Anupam. You’d want a professional luthier to make the conversion and it would probably cost at least the $100 you’d save buying the lefty. :-(

    Hi Robert, I have just bought an LX1e, heavily inspired by your very encouraging review comments and the great sound you produced. My LX1e has a Fishman Sonitone pickup similar to the one on yours. I need your expert suggestions and advice on choosing an appropriate amp for the Little Martin. Thanks a lot, Eashwar

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  3 года назад

      Hi Eashwar. I hope you like your LX1e! I have little experience with amps like this, but just make sure you’re looking for a full-range acoustic guitar amp (as opposed to an electric guitar amp, which will alter the sound dramatically and not sound natural). You couldn’t go wrong with a Fishman Amp! For a few years, I had a Fishman SA-220 and it sounded great, both on acoustic guitar and vocals.

    • @RobertCassard

    Can this guitar use nylon strings?

    • @RobertCassard
      @RobertCassard  6 месяцев назад +1

      Pretty much ANY steel string guitar can use nylon strings, but you need to buy nylon string with a ball end like these: amzn.to/491eNC3
      Be warned though, that the guitar may need a little setup work by a luthier. Often the nut and bridge may need some filing due to the wider gauge of the nylon strings.

      @@glenjuego Set up with Medium gauge, mine plays just a little stiff (like most Martins). A lighter gauge would definitely make it easier to play, but you’ll lose some “thickness” of tone. that trade-off may be worthwhile to you. Give it a try and tell me how it feels and sounds.

    • @glenjuego

      I think I should stick with the Medium gauge. I was just confuse before because some say that medium gauge strings add "stress" to the neck so it should be lights strings like the baby taylor. But i watched a luthier here in youtube said that its okay to use medium in a shortscale guitar. 🙂
