HOLY CRAP, EPIC!!!.....Dude that was spectacular, the flyover was soundgasmic, lol!! Watching the people deplane, I was thinking Benny Hill, lol! @4.19, the sound turned to thunder, wow!! M, I was mesmerized, man do you deliver the goods!! EPIC buddy!! :-)"
I agree with @jenf777 its a pleasure watching your videos, and it gets better before i blink my eye your new video is already up and its ready to be viewed great work sir and rightly said big thumbs up(from me too)!!!
Hallo Matthias, machst wirklich sehr sehr schöne Videos.
A319s operate routinely at Santos Dumont (SDU/SBRJ) domestic airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the runway is only 1323 metres long and the approach and take-off are considerably more difficult than in Bern. (So do Boeing 737-700s and even -800s with the Short Field Performance kit.) An A320 needs more runway length than an A319, but not much more, and those 400 extra metres at BRN are certainly more than enough to make up for that, even considering the altitude difference. A320s (and even cargo 767s!) also routinely operate in Vitória (VIX/SBVT), which has about the same runway length as BRN (albeit at sea level). It certainly takes a skilled pilot to operate an A320 on a runway that short, but it's feasible.
Agree. SBRJ is definitely a challenge from both side (02R/20L), but the approach to 02R is just beautiful, right over downtown Rio and the beaches. A no-float landing like this one is necessary there as well otherwise, you'll end up in the water. TAM is king there.
javacup912, just one correction: the approach to SDU doesn't overfly the beaches - Sugarloaf Mountain stands between them and the airport, and planes have to turn around to avoid the mountain when landing on 02R. The sand strips you see on such landings are technically "beaches" (Flamengo and Botafogo), but locals don't even consider them as such, because they are inside Guanabara Bay, thus they have no waves, are very polluted and hardly anyone goes there. Rio's locals ("cariocas") only consider real beaches the open-ocean ones, from Copacabana onwards, and those are the beaches one sees on Rio postcards.
Julio Romeresto, you are correct, the standard 737-700 lands just fine there (provided the pilot has the required specific training for SDU airport). The SFP kit is available for the 737-800 and I'm not sure, but I believe Boeing has made it standard for new airframes now. A 737-900 would no doubt be too much for that runway.

Echt?
You are generally right. The number of exit doors is regulated by law and depends on the number of passenger seats. Let me explain a concrete example: The Swiss A319 is led out with 124 seats and has two emergency exits, one on each side over the wing. But the A319 of EasyJet is led out for 156 seats and has four emergency exits, two on each side over the wing.
I haven't been in Chile for a lonnnnng time, but I doubt that a landing can be soft with a crosswind in Iquique or a squall in Punta Arenas... And soft landings are not necessarily safer - for example, if the runway is wet and slippery, forcing a (relatively) hard landing may be a good idea to dissipate more kinetic energy at once and increase brake efficiency. It may be unpleasant for passengers, yes, but much less so than a runway excursion. Skilled pilots will take many things in consideration and do their best, but their opinion may differ from that of the passengers. That doesn't depend on any specific airline, especially at a time when job turnover among pilots is very high.
Awesome!! I did my Base Training on this aircraft 😍
Very cool! This was the 1st A320 visiting Bern. It was very spectacular! Thanks for your great comment!
Tolles Video
Just fell in love with airplanes. This looks so.. beautiful.. stunning 😍
Thank you for watching! :)
Me too
W you
I can’t believe when this video was posted I was still learning my 3 times tables. The quality is amazing
Its amazing how an a320 can takeoff on such a short runway

Great video Matt!
Vielen Dank
urs
Sound at 5:12 is AWESOME!!
Wow - very good - fabulous shots of the approach and landing and lovely long shot of the plane climbing away at the end - top footage
Beautiful landing.
great sound in this plane when it flying over. great video mate. loved to watch it.
Best planes ever: 737, 777, 747, a320, a380, king air, cessna 172, cessna 150 and the best ive ever seen: 225 Mriya
Ritu very nice takeup and landing
Been on one for 5 hours. Lovely experience
Cool!

woooow very low and close! niceee!!!
Nice takeoff. Time to do that with CRJ9 :-D
Interesting video! I love watching airplane take-off and landing. Happy new year mate!
Thank you very much! The same to you :)
Matthias Aviation Channel you are welcome
The landing sounded like a Vickers C10. 🙂
😄
Nice clip Matt, i was not aware that Bern could accommodate a jet of that size, as far as runway length,etc...
Always such a treat to watch your videos, amazing quality, interesting planes, beautiful scenery, big thumbs up!!! :)
Hallo Matthias,

Herzlichen Dank! Vielleicht treffen wir uns ja mal in Bern-Belp! Schönes Wochenende, Matthias
Wow Nice vid man !! :D
Nice catch! The screaming sound at 0:46, is that the landing gear touching the ground?
Tim no, it's the brakes, 'cause its a short runway they sound louder
It would have been more enjoyable if it was added with the regular verbal instructions through microphone by cabin crews
Great video. Did they depart empty or with passengers? Nice job. What video editing software did you use?
Good Takeoff And Landing Planes😃😃😃😂👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks

Well a 737-900ER (EatsRunway) wouldn't do so well. Does the 737-700 have an sfp kit because I thought that it didn't need it.

Awesome landing!! Is this a rare airplane at Bern or not? Thanks for uploading ^^
Croatia
Awesome video! :) Liked the editing as well....how could you hear the conversation of the pilots??
what scanner do you use ?
Echt?
You seem to know Bern very well.....
Nice :)
@0:45 : is that sound the wheels hitting the tarmac?
Great !
What was that thing that was open on the plane below the back right service door?
That is the cabin pressure control outflow valve.
Indeed it is.
cool ,awesome'
airbus😍😍
Small airplane !
Great..
I think that was the a330
Nah i think that was a a380 xD
0:42 hard landing
if the runway were shorter it would have ran out of it.
Spectacular??
Yes, on a very short runway like in Bern it definitely is.
Just another twin engine 767 like plane.
It's A319, emergency have two.
Nope, the more seats the more exit doors. It is an A320.
matthiashaenni Not, the A319 have two emergency exit, the A320 have a four and the 321 have four emergency exit separated.

4:04 A320
I did not like the landing, that looked like rough. Lan airlines has me used to these soft, calming landings they do...
Yes it was, but the runway was short, you have ro land soon...and a bit hard to prevent overflying the runway

Haha de A319 isch aber ned soo vil chliiner ;)
yairbus a320
Very cool!
Hate these planes. They're super tiny and cramped inside like sardines.
A320's are some ugly ass planes
Remind me to never fly Croatia Airlines!
Why is that? The landing and take off were perfect.
Great !!
