It's time to renaissance the hymns to honor our grandparents before they go to be with the Lord. There's so much old wisdom in these that needs to be reintroduced to young minds. I always notice the hearts of the elderly glowing when we sing the hymns at church.
This has always been my favorite hymn. The idea that a man could lose so much that was precious to him and still cling to his faith and praise the Lord is amazing to me. It reminds me daily that I will be ok as long as I keep my eyes on Him.

The combination of great theology with great music sung in a professional manner wouldn't normally be enough to move me to tears. What does almost overwhelm me with sadness, however, is that there is so little of that combination of elements in the twenty-first century. If anyone reading this has the wherewithal, PLEASE consider becoming a patron of the arts. Find a way to encourage young musicians to aspire to musical evangelism--or, at the very least, musical excellence in the rendition of the great old hymns of the Christian church or/and the music of the classical masters.

The words are profoundly deep. My grandma would always cry whenever I play this song on the piano, because it was my late Grandpa's favourite song. Our family always sings this whenever someone passes...(except my mom and dad. they got married with this song playing in the background at church).
