This was such an awesome video!!! Love the perspective…. Definitely think your environment can affect the music in an awesome way.. thx fir this video!! 🙌
thank you, its kinda neat how music can crate this "world" and atmosphere, some can capture the sound of their surrounding and someone who's never been there can feel what it's like to be there.
Mostly yes it depends on where you live, travel. Events wherever it's people. Animals. Nature. Kids and others and it depends on the morning, afternoon, evening, night and midnight wherever music follows especially singles or albums when you are in the mood great video moniemuse take care and have a blessed Friday great sunny day where I live today
I really appreciate artist from all over the world, they bring their atmosphere to me. here in so cal, its been crazy hot lol waiting autumn weather to kick in.
Great video, Monie! Serenity in music is a beautiful thing. The tree music is an amazing idea. There is a 90s Seattle band called Screaming Trees. Although I believe they tapped more into natures plant material 😂 Some really great music and artists you shared. Thanks 🙏🏽 😊
Hey howdy hello (mark from yourgrooves from other account Thanks monie. This was super in depth! So many Icelandic stuff which was super cool you hit pretty much everything like wow
Excellent discussion Monie ! The " Berlin Trilogy " of albums by David Bowie Heroes , Low & Lodger are all directly reflective of the dire situation of the city in the late 70's.
2020 in CA? Yikes! Glad you found some solace. I like the cameo of Wings' Wild Life (I've always liked that cover). I really like Scandinavian artists. They seem to share the same temperament as me. I discovered Olafur Arnalds a couple of months ago and really like him; glad you featured him. Like everyone else here keeps saying: very interesting topic!
I agree, something peaceful about looking at the cover of Wild Life. it really sets the mood to the album. Yeah, California had a lot of rules set, while the states around us were free to go about their life, my husband was traveling for work a lot and would have to figure out what the rules were from state to state. glad thats done with.
Great video - and interesting topic! At 6:06 dude says nonconformity while talking about the music coming out of Iceland. My brain of course immediately went to Bjork who epitomizes noncomformity. Another I think of is, one of my favorites out of England, The Sundays. When it's rainy and dreary outside I'm 100% putting on one of their albums. I stereotypically think it's always rainy and dreary in the England and that had to affect their sound.
right, Bjork is so different, and even among her own stuff she sings in a direction I usually don't expect. You'll be surprise to know I didn't know THE Sundays is from English!! I didn't know that! makes scenes now, I some how missed that detail.
@@MonieMuse Me too. I'm new to the VC. Posted my first video about 6 weeks ago. Just found your channel, and really like it. Look forward to your next video and checking out some of your past posts. Cheers
I think it just goes so far as to the music, instruments or sound of the region that influences the song writer. I have a lot of world music. I have middle east (various regions), Russian, Nordic, etc. Recently I am looking into Ukrainian music. The big tell is when one listens to the folk music of the region, that is where the big differences are.
I have a CD set of world music, and some of it is unexpected; it's called "World 2004." There's 34 artists from 28 countries, and it's quite diverse. Some of the music isn't surprising, some I wouldn't expect from the country of the artist's origin. And then there's Orquesta de la Luz, a Japanese salsa band (that's right); they don't record anymore as far as I know. Sometimes it's what inspires an artist rather than where they're from. Sigur Ros sounds like they could be from Iceland, perhaps Norway. Another one that surpised me is Ana Popovic, a Serbian blues guitarist; didn't expect that, either. Interesting topic.
Intriguing question that I can never quite decide about. I'm in southern California. I think it depends on what the group or person focuses on. The Doors often sang about Los Angeles and city life in the '60's. In the '80's, Wall of Voodoo were also from L.A. but often sang about the desert, driving to Vegas, & Mexico. Do the Killers sound like Las Vegas? Maybe. I have the album *The Black Swan* by The Triffids who were from western Australia & they have a sort of lonely sound. Fontaines DC seem city oriented & they are from Dublin, whereas God is an Astronaut are from a smaller, coastal town called Wicklow & their purely instrumental music is expansive and sometimes dreamy.
yeah one answer doesn't apple to ALL, I do think Killers sounds like Vegas lol, yeah the Door sound like LA in the 70s for me, I like to play the game guess where this band is from hahaha
I feel like music gets worse over time in cities. You look back 60-20 years ago, lots of shows I would have wanted to attend. Now it's just a few bands that tour and a few locals that seem good in this day and age. I'd say the best record from Portland is The Exploding Hearts "Guitar Romantic", 3/4 the four members were killed in a van crash in 2003 after their debut full length album. There is an Exploding Hearts documentary coming out sometime, trailer is on RUclips, very legendary band! Jack White reissued their debut album last year on his label 😃
Sometimes I get sad when I hear a cool band is now "living in LA" im LIKE NOOOO lol they often begin to sound like everything else.. oh I gotta check out that band, I really love music from Portland
This video put me into philosophical overdrive. Existence being a matter of everything and all that is can arguably be seen partially defined as the ultimate in symbiotic relationships since everything is dependent upon everything else lest the definition of the very present be changed in the next second by the uncountable shifts and changes in the symbiotic relationship- be it the change in music, weather, human desire or any other factor. Ok. So…now my brain hurts. Far out video.
@@rickandrecords lol now you understood the assignment!!! Yes I’ve been trying to see the “soul” of the music, I’m amazed how music from across the world can paint a picture my ears can see 😌
Written I would say no there are or were record company's in New York city ... Warner brothers, Atlantic , Columbia, Atco I would say not the location doesn't matter if the company is from the LA area or a different location doesn't matter quality of the merchandise sound boards all the technical stuff record companys use to make music plus the band Ac/dc back in the late 70's and early 80's 5 stars don't care if they recorded their music in California, Australia or on the Moon the types of Amps are important , mixing boards that's whats important not the location. same for Madonna and the Police. New York is a bunch of copy cats they copied off the cn tower ( room that spins) New York has one. New York has 5 boroughs Toronto is just as cool as New York plus if you drive way up north in New York there lakes aren't as cold as if you drive up way north of Toronto high schools in Toronto would destroy High sckools in New York in Hockey. The only things New York has over Toronto a better Baseball team in the Yankees over the Blue Jays, The Rangers over the Leafs it's warmer in New York. Francoise Hardy , London Grammer , Romance fountain , Cannons , Paul Mccartney - London Town , Vampire weekend ,
Im more focused on where the bands are from, I know most groups when they start recording come to LA or NY to do so. Beach boys carries that Southern California sound, while the smiths or the cure have the gloomy English sound . any bands from your hometown?
@@MonieMuse No bands from my hometown.. Location doesn't matter So the beach boys are from California and write music about surfin and California life styles back then but if they had been from Philly they could still write surfin tunes and be the same band California style while coming from the Philly area. Ac/dc is Austrilian do their tunes remind you of Austrilia? Def Leppard is from Sheffield does their music relate to British things? location isn't important.
I do believe location can influence a band's music but also life experiences and the philosophical mindset of the song writer. Current events have a big influence. Many great protest songs were influenced and written during the Vietnam War, etc. It all contributes to the music. Nice topic.
amazing how in hard times songs are created, to give people hope, I've been listening to John Lennon Imagine this week, "give peace a chance" is so simple and yet profound.

great point! the instruments around the song writers and how they use them to express a sound.

how interesting to have a cd with music from around the world, good point, songs come from what inspires an artist, things they lived through.
