The "white boat" I believe is a lifeboat that were used on oil rigs - they were ejected from above the water so had to withstand the impact entering the water . . . . . .
We just started watching your vlogs from the beginning one. We like the constant commentary about whats going on around n about you whilst cruidsing and moored. Keep up the good work its great. Especially the River Lee bit - think there was a Bryant n May Match factory down there somewhere Steve n Joan East Lothian, Sotland
Great to have you back, missed your vids my friend .As I was born and schooled in Hertord, Ware in the 70s was rough ,not the place to go unless you wanted to fight ! including that pub The Saracens Head, but it has all changed for the better over the years, so nice to see.
Hello Richard, funny how a lot of Towns not far from London are on the up! And everywhere I looked around Ware there was building and improvements going on!
We used to drive out from Barnet to a pub called the Turkey Cock at Hunsdon, it was an ex RAF officers club. The staff would dress and serve from one end of the bar to the other, then change into another outfit and serve again. Change glued to the bar top, piano painted in camouflage, so no one could find it and play it. We called it the crazy house pub.
Fantastic way to see the country, certainly from a different prospective. You must of done your research before moving to this type of lifestyle. I'm really enjoying your videos Vince.
Hi. Just found your channel today and have watched up to video five. I have to say I'm loving it!!! Love the fact that you go and explore the town's and villages and I think this really does make your channel. Also, think you found a gem with aitch and the scenery on the Lee is fantastic!!! It's also enlightening that you show how a solo boater can actually pull off the locks etc. on their own. Would love to know how long you looked for boat and the cost but you probably cover this in a later video.
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle I’ve sat and watched about ten back to back loving watching your adventures along the river :) has it been strange during lockdown
@@SecretsoftheCosmic Glad you're enjoying them Stacey. Yes it is a bit strange and boring during the lockdown, but it must be the same for you too. Hopefully, it wont be long now, and we can get back to normal!
I really like these vlogs, it’s like your having a conversation with us. All the GRPs face the same way because you should point your bow into the flow of the water on a river, then the water passes more easily and doesn’t strain the ropes. Or at least that what I was taught.
Thank you, great vlog. I agree with the others, it's a lifeboat from an oil rig. Im glad you are loving it, it's the lifestyle that I long for when I retire.🙂
Used have a mooring very near there and enjoyed the river Lea and the Stort great times had exploring both then moved up to Braunston. great humour keep it going enjoy your clips
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle love the stort and the Lea regent car now I’ve got to have your wits about you and make sure you lock everything up of a night time because there are some dodgy places and the people are little bit less forgiving at the least but enjoy your travels Vince and keep up the great videos
Your spot on regarding the beauty of your destination what a gorgeous venue you have chosen doesn't get much better than where you are you can tell there's Money where you are at the Mo. I was walking a vlog on the River Avon the other week that also was very nice very similar to where you are now. I live in Cheshire but I use to spend a lot of my holidays when I was younger down south in a place called South Harrow, Middlesex. Anyway you seem to have found a nice little place to stay for a few days. Good and if the level goes up you have a bit of room to play with. 👍
The boat mentioned at 13 min. the white boat with no windows, but has an engine. They are found in various size and shapes. On oil rigs, they are used as life boats. they fall from the rig, some 30 feet to the water in an emergency. totally encased, as they would be in open sea. Now fitted out to be a home, this one doesn't look like its been finished, as no windows have been fitted... or maybe they likes their privacy. Lovely stretch of river.
Im getting closer by the day to taking the plunge and joining you out there, invested in a classic car 2 wks before lock down, great timing ! LOL.so that would have to go. have you got a bike ?
Have a go Richard, if you don't get on with it, you can always sell the boat and go back to what you did before! And yes I have got a little fold down bike (worth its weight in gold)
H. Suggest you put the boat in a marina if leaving it for that long, I've seen boats let go down the river, it's a bit safer if you can chain the to the Armco. We had a squady trying to nick our bike at Windsor, I shouted and told him my old man was Welsh Guards, he did call back Sorry.
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle It actually feels quite pressing now but that's because I watch far too many vlogs like this. So, it's your fault. Keep up the good work Vince, I'm loving it.
For future reference, if you ever are stuck and need to work on your boat you can email CRT to ask for permission to remain. If it is something that prevents you moving (with you or your boat) they are usually willing to allow this.
Historical. Originally towed by horses, the rudder is in the rear and has to be steered from there. Look up 'butties' to see the original steering oars. To steer from the front would require a lot of complicated equipment which can easily go wrong.
I think you’ll often find that when you get on the narrow canals and go through a lock, there will be a boat waiting to go through in the opposite direction, therefore there will be no need to shut the gates. That’s just my experience. I assume these videos were all taken last year and that the waterways are unusually quiet due to COVID?
We live outside Braintree after watching this video we are going to take a wander done to the canal,as soon as we get a chance for a walk .
Good on ya Doug. Hope you enjoy it mate!

Hi Vince got your name from last comment. I'me 74 and still want another NB. Another good video, The River Lea is beautiful. (PJ)
Hi Ron, yes it's a bit of an hidden gem up here, and the Stort is even better (in my opinion)
It.looks lovey 💖
It was nice there Suzanne!
The river is very nice with great scenery......
Yes, more boaters should go and have a look!
A great choice...and the scenery changes as you cruise along......
It does on the Lea!
We think you are doing very well. You wouldn’t know you were new to Narrow Boating. We enjoy your consciousness as well.
Thanks Rick & Debs N Idaho, glad that you enjoy it! I bet it's getting cold in your part of the world?
Another great video. You seem to have really come to terms with the locks now - either that or clever editing! Inspiring to lots of people.
Thanks Keiron, I show it all warts and all!
Love these videos and beautiful scenery! Really enjoyed watching
Thanks Vik!

That is a life boat probably off an oil rig👍

What is the reason for narrow boats being steered from the back end rather than the front ?
I wished that I could answer that for you! I know there are some narrowboats with a wheelhouse in the middle!
