    The tapered wedge is better than a wheel in your case because it works well in dead end sheds.I have used it to move feed back from the dead end or I move feed older feed from finishing cattle across the passage to store cattle. The wheel s are good but can only do one job. You can buy a wedge that can be grabbed with the grab so it’s one less attachment for Liv to change

    Would you not try Alka home and dry no drying once crop is between 16/24% moisture, protein increases by 3% no rat or bird problems and no need for ph adjustment in feed. It's been revolutionary in my system here, best thing I have done in years.

    hi, an Angus or Angus Cross breed calf at the Denfield, Ontario Canada sales barn goes for 1500, my uncle has a 30 head Holstein dairy farm, told me last week, prob most other breeds not far behind that. The price per pound to the consumer from Ralph Bos Meats near Strathroy, Ontario is 6.09 for a half, approx 400lbs, pork is 2.79.

    Kansas USA, can't really say on the beef prices, it fluctuates across the states.
    When I raised beef cattle, I never grained mine, hay and grass, they'd get plenty of weight on by summer time after calving in late spring, usually butchered in early to late fall. Have had several local farmers tell me I really needed to grain, specially feed 'em corn. Only "grain" I'd feed would be a product called "range cubes". That's when I'd bring 'em up to the barn to check on them. Which was usually once a week, more often if I had a few close to calving. Never had issues with my cattle until I had switched bulls. Had used a "registered" bull, don't remember the breed. Had a much larger bone structure than my Angus and Herford's. Had issues with his calves, ruined a few of my cows, of course this all happened back in the day when the price for beef hit rock bottom. Ended up selling out the cattle, to keep them, couldn't give one away. It's the same as what happened to the hog market years and years ago.
    Now, I'm not defending your father but, Phil, as a retired farmer myself, I will say, we "old timers", we get stubborn and "stuck" in our ways so, be patient. As always, great video, cheers :)

      Don’t think maize meal would be needed as there is maize silage being added, but it all depends on silage test results if silage is low in starch and is being included at fairly high % so could reduce overall energy available

      Do tell??

    • @Andy-ix2ox
      @Andy-ix2ox 5 дней назад +2

      It’s pretty simple fr bulls that need to be gone by a date, with a certain fat cover, need all the energy you can get into them because you don’t want them to start growing and loosing condition, maize meal is high energy and low protein by replacing barley with maize meal you are reducing the overall protein content and increasing your energy ergo they are more likely to gain condition than go into a growth spurt. I would be half inclined to reduce barley and increase maize meal if it was my decision , if he was buying in the meal rather than growing it I think it would be a no brainer to replace all grain with maize meal for fr bulls because at present prices the difference between the cost of rolled barley and ground maize is not enough to justify not using a whole lot of maize. It’s all about energy intake when it all boils down.

This crack of 16 calfs eating nuts out of a blue barrell with an egg cup of minerals in 1 spot. Too many yearlings in pens. Thats yer weight gain problems. Atention to detail in 1st 16 months. Is yer problem. Ye are full on with the reaingvcalf stage. Its the next year ye are loosing. Weanlings need 3/4 kg of quality nuts for 1st 2. 3rds of winter. A few oats isnt doing it.

    The average price per pound, hanging weight is $2.50-3.00, but grass fed beef is $4.00-$6.50 a pound, Wagyu is $6.00-12.00 in the USA. Wagyu beef is more expensive than conventional Angus and Hereford breeds. Your beef was very tasty, when we bought some when we were there, and the bacon was amazing!!! Cornfed beef is more tender, but supposedly not as healthy as grass fed.

The wheel s are good but can only do one job. You can buy a wedge that can be grabbed with the grab so it’s one less attachment for Liv to change
