I'd always assumed that the ceiling was aluminum. Every day is a school day it seems!
Ali on RMs, but ply on RTs. I think the ceiling was painted off the bus in the case of the RM, but I suspect that they may have painted the base coats 'off-bus' then the final coat inside the bus judging by the overspray found inside.
