    So named after a biplane crash landed in the village pond.

      @@rjjcms1 Really? Haven’t seen much on the internet about this. Then again local library’s tend to keep stuff of Google that’s why reading books are good for information. I did however read about a plane crash not much detail I also read on Google that the name Biggleswade may derive from Biceil, an Anglo-Saxon personal name, and Waed, the Saxon word for ford. Also its surrounding areas used to be one are under the Romans Stratton being included.

      @@theexplorechanneluk7934 I admit I was pulling your leg there,but was intrigued as to how the town got its name. You're probably right about it coming from those Anglo-Saxon words.

      @@rjjcms1 That’s a guess probably more roman unless it was completely changed to a new name by the Saxons.
