I think I will wait until next year or when the software gets better. I had gotten a Legion go 3 times. The first one the screen kept turning off and on getting patterns and going white. The other 2 the sd card wasn't working no matter what I did and going from a Steam deck I need the sd card support. I will wait. Keep up the good work. O. A side note the last o ne that I got I just received my Steam Deck Oled and it was better for me to use.
Sorry to hear your troubles with the legion go. I’ll actually be glad when we get down the road to gen 2 - gen 3 of these devices. Gen 1 has been a lil rough lol. I love my deck oled. Great handheld.
Great review thanks!
Thanks for the review. What about the gyroscope update on the Ally ? According some videos it seems to be a good alternative for aiming in first person shooters
I yea saw Ally has an update about to launcu as well. Seems mostly gyro focused which definitely isnt for me lol but seeing what else may be improved
I like them both, but i wanted a bigger screen, so i returned my ally and got the legion go.
The screens kickstand and removable controllers are definitely highlights of the device for me. Screen is very immersive for a handheld.
@@GameTechPlanetThe Go kickstand is very good, because it can be adjusted as good as 1 by 1 degree.
I strapped on a Samsung T7 Shield 2.TB SSD on the kickstand and is stuck there even if kickstand is in our out.
I have 2 Steam Decks the LCD and OLED and decided to buy one more either the Go or the Ally. I went with the Go. The ROG Ally is known to have several hardware issues like so many people are reporting the SD card slot melting. I feel the Go just feels more premium to me and from what I read from other users has less technical issues.
Love the Go. Great choice. The Deck oled and Legion Go are my top two right now. The Ally is a great option for those who really just eant something snaller and lighter. Unfortunately yea my sd card slot went on me and my vibration motors came loose in my Ally. Have to rma.
I've had all 3, Ally, Deck, Go and the Legion Go is definitely the best, and the closest to a portable pc. The only real issue is the speakers are quiet but the amazing screen makes up for it.
Right. But then like why would I be in a concert playing my LeGo outloud AND outside where it's loud
Use Bluetooth headphones
Ally feels like it just makes more sense. Size and weight makes more sense as a handheld, features on ally have more better essential meanwhile legion has more niche features.
I've had all 3, Ally, Deck, Go and the Legion Go is definitely the best, and the closest to a portable pc. The only real issue is the speakers are quiet but the amazing screen makes up for it.
I gotmy Go & haven't looked back. Runs like a top and also operates as a desktop when needed on the go. You do you but LLG is badass. I will say it isn't made for small hands. My wife hooked up a x box blutooth control and now its hard to find these days lol
Battery lasts 45 minutes I have one it blows and windows runs like a shopping cart on it. To each his own I guess. For the money I blew on the 2 tb legion go plus the warranty, I could’ve gotten a oneplayer2 or an actual laptop.
@@JohnGregoryGarza You LIE!
I bought the ally to see if I liked hand helds, once I realized the usbc port was only 10Gbps so I returned and got the go for the usbc 4 which does the 40Gbps which handled gfn at 1440p 120hz or 4k at 120hz. I love running the 1440p at 120 in handheld mode but it’s even better for the games that are not on the gfn library yet
GFN on the Legion Go is pretty awesome. 1600p 120fps gaming on the 4080 tier.
Yeah but if you’re going to use GFN you can just do it on any laptop or other device? You don’t really need such an expensive device as this.
The point about the USB speed being limited to 10 GBPS on the USB is very important and thanks for bringing that up. I wish more reviewers will bring up points like this. Because that’s probably a really important when you’re connected to an external monitor.
I guess Legion go is better for connecting to an external monitor
I own Legion Go too. It has 2 x USB-C 4.0 ports.
I wonder what Asus smoked when they decided that their official Ally dock should have USB 2.0 (480 Mbps). lol
I had 2 Rog ally’s in the past 3 months. Both returned because of defective thumb sticks. I’m going with the Go this time.
I have the ally 3 weeks in not a pc guy but i love it. Im a busy dad with weird whack hours and i love my switch. Now its windows. I like the go too and may get that one day just to use it in tablet mode and the rare time id wanna mess with fps mode
I used fxsound on the legion go and it sounds so much better now.
Yea it does help. I have also used Dolby access for surround and equalizer and its been good
Just order the Ally Z1 extreme yesterday.
Nice 👍
How often do you use the track pads? As far as usability the legion go or the steam deck seems better. That's my no 1 issue if i were to buy a handheld.
Right controller on Lenovo Go is also a PC Mouse with scroll wheel etc.
I had the go and returned it . Its is not ready yet. Its like the onexplayer 2s a lot of games crash . The ally runs great i had all 3 at the same time and the ally is just better
In the Benchmarks the Z1 Extreme has a higher usage on the legion go. Why? Was the CPU Boost on the Ally "off"?
Nope. Both systems matched up as close as possible. Drivers, firmware, ram speed and more all affect this. With the bigher ram speed the z1 will typically perform better. But besides that asus is still chasing some performance issues that have been there since day one.
Have you used both with egpu, I'm wondering if the rig performs better???
I returned both and got a SD Oled...no maintenance, no BS lol.
Crazy game testing,
Myself have the ally and a work mate has the Lenovo,
We both have assassin creed, and I the ally get more FPS on the same settings 🤔
Would meed alot more info. Vram settinga, ingame settings, resolution cause in handheld mode the go will lose some fps at 1200p vs the tested 1080p and so on. Many factors. My machines are matched up as close as possible so im testing same thing. This was even with the go having older gpu driver. I updated it after the video i get even betrr Legion performance than ehats shown in the video.
Rog ally is made by asus its no surprise they made a product that handles gaming better
Micro Center is selling in store Legion Go 2 tb for $899
how do I control the microphone on the Legion go I can't find the settings everything seems more complicated compared to the ally?
Press legion space button to bring up space. Bottom left theres a menu icon to open up main settings menu. There are mic settings in audio
@@GameTechPlanet thank you
I have both. Ally runs way better (Don’t have the Vram 6 bios yet, waiting for official patch) In the long run, the Gobwill be the better device
Yea running on the beta stuff on Go its now beating the Ally in all my test. 3dmark, cinebench and most games out perform the Ally. Ram speed has some to do with this as it affects performance of the AMD apu’s. They love higher speed ram. Seems there has to be some other things affecting performance but i know Asus continues to be hard at work. Love both handhelds.
The ally is the better device the go isn't a handheld
I got the ally from day one an the speakers help you enjoy playing the go seems good with the screen though an my ally fried its sd card slot i didnt even use it until now an realized its not working i might go for the legion go tbh
Looking forward to seeing updates for Lenovo. I do see that ROG is getting some good updates soon.
Yea both Ally and Go have some good updates coming. Great to see. Plus more videos lol
@@GameTechPlanet Hell Yea!
I upgraded ally to 2tb and it stopped launching games anyone know a fix for this?
When I went to bestbuy to pick up my legion go and the saw the size of it in person and in hand, I had a great laugh and said nope not for me.
I have a rog ally right now......i like it alot.....love the design and color.......i wanna trade in my ally for the legion go for a bigger screen.....i feel like I might make a mistake trading my ally in.....because I really like the ally.
Its a tough choice. But start by asking if the Ally is offering you something the legion go isnt. Mainly the Ally is lighter and smaller which some people prefer. The screen has vrr but I still prefer the Go screen. Point is you cant really go wrong but spend time rly looking at everything both offer and make your choice based on your preferences. Im happy to help anyway I can tho
legion go is on par performance wise to the ally but the ally has 6+ months worth of updates also just picked up a legion go for 676 1tb version new
Nice price. Open box?
@@raiusdaltar1483yuh excellent condition people buy it and they want it simpler like the steam deck so return it brand new, then people like us get it for the price of the 1tb oled steam deck lol
Legion go has 6 months to perfect its product lmao 🤣 and its not even close to the allys performance
@@Shaunymac10 it is tho😂 look how close the numbers are in games😂 and it barely came out, that just shows how much better its gonna get than the ally
@@Shaunymac10 trippin
this market is moving fast to a stalemate, ill wait for that
I have the both
Best way to go lol
@GameTechPlanet I used the lenovo legion go more it feels better in my hands
I thought I would enjoy the legion go, but the way the controllers connect is absolutely horrendous and bad design. Much much worse than the rail the Switch uses. It never feels secure and it's hard to know whether or not it clicked in correctly.
Returned it and got an Ally for $200 less. The only thing I miss is the 2nd USB port. Otherwise the Ally feels better and is just as powerful.
Can I just get both 😔
My guy. This is the best option lol. I do not envy those choosing between a Steam Deck, Ally and Legion Go. To pick just one ☝️. OMG lol
Guess it’s not worth it unless I want portable I’ll stick with Ps5 then thanks 🙏
rog ally
Legion go
legion go all the way.
Steamdeck oled is
The ally works.
The legion go needs work.
The Ally has come a long long way since launch. Good job by Asus so far. Lenovo is also on track for the needed improvements. Pretty happy so far with how all these have been handled. Issues all around but some great handhelds coming out. More competition please!!
Tell that to everyone with a broken or fried micro SD card reader!
@@BigBlueBoyScout yea as mentioned in the video the sd card reader issue got me as well. So far asus has not failed to fix it for everyone i have talked to with an rma. So soon I will ship mine for repair. Fortunately besides the rough launch month for Ally thats been all my issues. No major hatdware issues for me on Legion yet unless rhe deadzones for sticks turn out to be beyond a software fix. With current beta drivers and bios on my Go the performance and tdp issues have cleared up for me. Just waiting for all the legion space improvements among other things.
Legion is better faster ram and higher resolution
Neither they both suck! Its all about the PS Portal! GET GUD Scrubs 🤪
Get outta here Mute. Almost snuck in on me 🤣. That aint a handheld. Its an accessory 🤣
@@GameTechPlanet it's more a handheld than the go... you can actually hold it 😘
@@IMIute 🧌 🧌
Go is far superior
No its not a handheld
Why not both😂
You can go to 30w on both handhelds lmao
Plugged in yes. The Ally tops out at 25w handheld unplugged sustained. The Legion allows for staying at 30w handheld unplugged sustained. Plugged in ues Ally will hold 30w.
@@GameTechPlanetI would go more than 25w in handheld mode the battery won't even last 30 mins lol
Lenovo Go is a tablet with controls not handheld
Exactly
Legion go is too saturated
Not even close lol. Especially in person right in front of u. I love the Ally screen but going from the go to that can make ally feel dim and faded sometimes in comparison lol. Perception. The Go actually almost matches my oled switch and oled deck. Pretty crazy. Full on screen compare video coming in the future.
@@GameTechPlanet dang. Maybe I should take my all back lol
@@t.greene583 lol. I wouldnt say that. I rly do love both ally and go. But they are very different. I like that we have choice on size, weight, screens and so on. Its rly up to the needs of/ wants of each gamer man. While i ise both i tend to gravitate to the Go due to its sheer size and screen. Jist fits my big dumb hands better and i like the size of screen for games lol. But some people hate the larger devices. Ally is definitely a lighter, simpler more elegant device
@@GameTechPlaneterm no pretty sure its been noted that the lenovos colour is bleeding its not “true” colour
@@Shaunymac10 something I will definitely look into more. I appreciate the comment and info. Love the legion screen tho and I have a ton of screens here to look at lol. How accurate I dunno but i love it 🤣. Im pretty sure no matter the device we can always do some adjustments ourselfs. I have done so on my desktop windows pc’s for a long time. I like to test out of box tho.
The fact that the Ally is hugely discounted right now tells me a lot. Asus knows the Legion Go is superior. The only thing it’s “missing” is VRR. Plus overtime the Legion Go will get huge improvements through updates and community feedback.
Lol
@@zhilasardar5483what made you "lol" the superiority of the legion go like a proper microsd slot or the fact it's only 1 months in and it has better battery life and on par performance?
I see this guy didn't take economics,. It's called being competitive , if you slightly lower your price and take a small hit on profit per unit you make more in sheer volume especially during a holiday season where parents are going to grab what's economical. I'd wager that the Steam Deck dropping an oled hurt Asus because it torpedoed the cheaper version of the Ally. Now they can't steal the Steam Deck fans they thought they would .
@@VeegovonDOOM plus the ally been out a little longer 🤔
@@VeegovonDOOM I'm going to grab the one that doesn't fry my sd cards.
Steam deck. The ally feels like a cheap toy compared the the deck and the legion go cant last more than 5 minutes of battery life.
i m sick of this type of content none of the available handhelds are comparable to each other, everyone has something just look for what u are interested in, like for this example, both have the same chip so why bother with this video?
Odd. Thats what a video like this highlights and what I talk about so much. All the handhelds are soooo different and cater to diff groups. I make content like this for shoppers trying to learn as much as they can before they decide whats best for them. Also having essthe same apu does not equate to same performance. There are other differences from tdp issues, ram speed, drivers, bios, screen resolution and so on to affect actual gameplay performance and perception. So far the Go with its similar hardware out performs the Ally in almost every game i try. Or at least offers better frametimes. Which is good cause it lacks the vrr that ally has lol. I would hope content like this and others help those out there who dont know much about this market but wanna get in.
While I can agree with that, there is nothing wrong with comparing them. You sound like a hurt go owner who wasn't satisfied with the experience
Ally is better
Go screen is too saturated
@@t.greene583which you can set.
Ally republic of gamers asus is a gaming no vrr lol! Legion go it went home returned go lol! Ally is a friend it stays lol!
@@blanka4545 don’t need vrr . Pros outweigh cons for legion go
@@in-xm1py the go has ways to go but have fun.
I'm on the fence people still think the trashy Ally is better the LLG. day 1 drop.
The go is trash its not even a handheld lol
Build quality in the Go is so much better than the ally. And the screen is miles better.
Only going to give up my ally for a alienware ufo
Do we still believe thats coming 👀. I hope so. Dell, HP, MSI, Acer and more. Competition. Hopefully even better devices at better prices.
@GameTechPlanet dear God I hope so 🙏. The prototype seemed to be nextlevel lol. I know that particular one won't be cheap though...but I'd gladly pay for it no matter the price
