Alder Lake and Thread Director - Architecture Day 2021 | Intel Technology
/ inteltechnology
Alder Lake is a revolution for music producers. It's crazy how much responsive a DAW or a system feels and the amount of overhead removed for the serial and real time nature of audio.
If you want to remove latency you should disable Hyper-threading in the BIOS for any Intel CPU that supports it. This should make your audio/video work much better.
Hope Intel will stick to this Thread Director thing, unlike RealSense or XDK which Intel abandon
Well, gen 11 have avx512 support but gen 12 haven't. Thank you, Intel. Also, special thanks for x51 multiplier for avx2. It was a big Christmas miracle for my brand new 12900k. Will bring it back to shop.
Looks promising, let's see what will be delivered as a final product and where and how the competition will react/act.
so the main reason behind this is better power efficiency at low system demand
I Can't wait to have one at home
The CPU or the Indian lady?
so its a glorified control unit communicating with the OS for the cpu package as a whole?
It's Intel, their engineering is stuck in year 2000 - was there an expectation of any technical innovation?
Never knew Intel is into Taoism 0:54
Got discount Sundar Pichai to present 😬
I am VERY excited for this line of CPUs. Hopefully I'm not disappointed by the pricing.
Yeaa it’s true.. I’m team red.. i use phenom II, but i just build i5 11400f for gaming, because it’s more cheap than ryzen 5 5600x 😝😝😝 and i save $90 in my pocket.. they should know a lot of people like me out there..

Thr M1 has a couple of advantages over the alderlake, boot time and stuff, but i think intels next cpu has the potential of maximizing the performance of the alderlake
desktop wattage is a big advantage. retaking one vertical would be a big first step in their comeback.
It's like a marathon where one of the competitors needs to carry a 10kg kettlebell (backwards compatibility with x86 code)
I am curious about how hypervisor makes decisions depending on data provided by the thread director. Can I still achieve thread pinning or say click a button on hyper V and tell windows to run this VM on performance cores?
how does frameworks like spdk play a role here?
Intels focus on Slices/Tile base deign is pretty cool, now I see why they critizied gluing
What gluing ?
Although emib is superior to amd infinity fabric it's pretty expensive to implement. Infinity fabric is a good balance between performance and price
@@ksrikar6668 I know my friend, not saying other wise. lets not forget dispite the cheap nature of IF/chiplets, AMD still raised the price on us real quick as performance leader.
How does it know which threads need less power? Some services in Windows 10 generate massive CPU loads, such as telemetry, Windows Security (defender), etc. How good are those heuristics?
Probably AI neural network

She is speaking as if moving threads to other cores is such an easy task. It is not, all the prefeched instructions, all microops has to be trowed away and all cache request will be missed in the beginning. It seem to me that branch predictor will not be so accurate in the beginning of the thread execution.
That's been a problem since the beginning of concurrent processing, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Also it takes between 1 million and 10 million instructions to retrain the branch predictor. Thats like < 0.25 microseconds @ 4 GHz, and an OS time slice is anywhere from 10 - 100 milliseconds. Also, there are more cores now which means you have to switch threads less, reducing the switching overhead.
Amazing thank you
So all those ''Leaked'' alder lake benchmarks worked on OS without all needed updates to fully unleash its performance, as expected.
no demo screen?
18:41 - Jigobyte? What is that?
Once the issues with P/E cores are worked out, I would like to see future processors with different mix of P and E, including some with few P and very many E cores. If you want ordinary uses to benefit from multi-core, how about a properly multi-threaded compression (zip/unzip). It should have to implement different strategies for single large files vs. many small files. Recognize and bypass files already in (potentially different) compressed format. Ability to use multiple available drives for source, destination and working space could avoid SSD bathtub effect.

so the gracemont atom even stronger then skylake core.
what is skylake core?
i3 6100 (3.7ghz), i5 6500(3.5ghz) i7 6700k(4ghz)
i have i3 6100, i7 8700k, i9 10900k .actually ,they all base on skylake.
but i think intel this comparison is compare to 6th gen, the original skylake.
i suggest all of your skylake processor have same IPC despite the difference between clockspeed and core count. The benchmark of E-Core is done at 3ghz between a skylake-based processor and E-Core based processor.
@@Arkan_Fadhila yes, all of this have same ipc, i3 6100, i7 8700k ,i9 10900k
No they are comparing to 10th gen as that was the last iteration of skylake essentially. 1C vs 1C, the E cores are 8% faster according to Intel
What about Linux kernel?? Linux is the future technology. Though I know that Linux kernel has already been patched for alder lake compatibility, it would be better to know more about these patches.
Thank you

Is there a performance per watt chart? The Apple M1 is insanely efficient. Will Alder Lake have the same PPW?
I think apple will still lead the efficiency but intel started to catch up with alder lake
@@Arkan_Fadhila With a 250 Watt part?

i will wait until the official benchmark with zen 3/3+ or even zen 4 before pull the trigger

You are creating real AI architecture. I get a little scared!
intel: we want this to work with existing software
thread director: oh so u mean windows 11 and nothing else?
which isnt an existing software yet btw its still in beta
Intel, what a big metaphor guy ! unlike amd direct show the result and benchmark no BS
Is it possible to get this video in English as well?
I'm not an Intel or an AMD fan - I'm just going to buy what gives me the best performance for the least money. My hesitancy with choosing Intel is that their motherboards are often a lot more expensive than AMD motherboards and their socket compatibility makes Intel less future compatible.

Will this upgrade improve the performance of Engineering, Physics, Biomedical and Bio-Tech related softwares???🙄
I wanted to replace my Intel core i7-10875 based Dell precision mobile workstation with some 16 core or 24 core Xeon or intel core CPU based mobile workstation. 👶
But I think my existing 8 efficient and 16 virtual cores (for some softwares virtual cores are obsolete) based workstation might be the only option at-least till there's any new upgrade after the upgrades you mentioned. 😇 Which I'm not happy about;
Bcoz I was VERY OPTIMISTIC about the upgrades for the professionals in the latest upgrades.
BUT AGAIN ! JUST TO COMPETE WITH AMD, YOU ARE NEGLECTING the Professionals for years and focusing on GAMERS AND CONTENT CREATORS 😡👎👎👎
Very Disappointed 👶😕
A mention: AMD already had a 16 core CPU (not the virtual 16 cores) for laptops FOR MANY YEARS.
but I can't switch from intel to AMD. I want intel to produce the 16 to 36 core CPUs for Mobile Workstations. First, at least a 24 core intel Xeon CPU and 16 core CORE i9 and i7 CPUs for mobile workstation then 36 Core Xeon CPU for "MOBILE WORKSTATION"💐💐

I might have misunderstood somethings, So I'm sorry for that 👶
How are mobile workstations PCs? I'd worry about thermals bottlenecking the CPU
@@thecsslife That's what😐 while developing CPUs, they not focussing on the most important aspect.... THERMALS 😏

While some people are pairing Intel CPU with AMD gpu ATM, i think some of AMD user will jump ship using AMD CPU with INTEL GPU or even INTEL CPU+GPU in 2022 should the XE-HPG priced reasonably and available to the end-user without supply probem.
