This is based on Silkwood, but since this show is based in LA, it is kinda based on the Simi Valley Disaster. (I think that reactor site is still on the Superfund list)
And also on the ZEITGEIST of thoses days Here in Germany the first ANTI ATOMKRAFT movesments and ATOMKRAFT NEIN DANKE bottoms and citizen protes groups leading to the GREEN PARTIES turned up since the late Sixties Fun Fact: Like those Tunberg FRi´DAY DEMONSTRATIONS it had started in DANMARK
I guess it depends on what duties each individual performed. If you haven’t seen it already, watch the movie Silkwood. If I recall correctly, Karen wasn’t a college graduate. I believe she had to have training to perform her duties. That would give her some level of qualification.
@@gwenniegirl50 yes, seen the excellent Silkwood & the real Karen wasn't Middle Class. It's seen as an Industry, not a Profession. Love the ending.of this episode, the 'Beyond the Grave' aspect. They killed him but they did not stop him.
Alan’s wife...that’s the lady that played Paul Williams mother on the Young and the restless..Mary Williams 🤔?? Her real name was Conway or Conwell something like that.
Rather than learn to correctly regulate nuclear energy in the U.S. we allowed it to be badly managed in several notorious cases and then the petroleum and coal industries jumped in to convince us all of how dangerous nuclear energy is. In fact, if you added up all of the deaths and injuries caused by nuclear energy - worldwide - they would be a minuscule fraction of those caused by coal and petroleum, NOT INCLUDING the massive short- and long-term damage to the larger environment from byproducts, waste and carbon pollution. We could now be using our nuclear waste - the biggest issue of nuclear plants - to power newer, even far safer, generation plants just as France is doing.
We need 100% clean energy (NO fossil fuels and NO nuclear fission power) including to deal with the No. 1 climate crisis. I had expected that to happen by end of 1970s. But our press, politicians, and public are too science-phobic and generally ignorant alas. Long before ace young eco champion/ethical vegan Greta Thunberg we have been repeatedly warned.
EDIT: Found my answer... upcomingdiscs.com/2016/06/13/lou-grant-season-one/ The original name was obviously Nukon (credit to staff member Paul for catching it) but was changed to Tucore. You can play a little drinking game to see if you can spot a line that will include the company name by how the sound drastically changes. It’s easy, so plan on getting plastered.
If you look out the window where Rossi is interviewing the woman in charge iof the medical records for the plant, you can see the name "Nukeon" on the side of the building.
This is a great episode! Robert Walden was terrific!
This has got to be the Rossi episode. Love it!
Thank You!!! Love this series!! Always watched it and because of you can watch them again!!
"That clarify things for you, Jim?" My favorite line in the series so far.
22:00: A reference to the famous Mud Bowl Playoff Game, 12/26/77. The Vikings upset the Rams, 14-7, in LA.
Billie’s looking good in this one.
A year before Three Mile Island . . .
This episode was based on Karen Silkwood.
And prior to 3 Mile Island and the Big One, i.e. Chernobyl.
Airdate March 6th, 1978.
Only got to look at Sam's Wife to know that! Nice clothes. Remember Nice?

When Lou reads the letter at the end... "In 1972..." He could have easily been the voice at the beginning credits of the A-Team! LOL
When she had the break-in they should of looked at the security cameras.
🙂
Interesting that the Nuclear Industry Workers are Working Class people. Not College Educated, not even Qualified. Factory Work.

What does he expect, he works at Chernobyol.

Sounds like they needed better microphones for this epsidoe. Lots of "re-recorded" dialoge that was not picked up on stage.
called looping, the changed the name of the company.
This is first episode where they kill someone off.
Yeah, how many times did one of the Reporter's write a story because of the Death of a Friend?
Why was a lot of the audio in this episode dubbed over with alternate lines? It's every line with "Tucore" in it.

Worst dubbing job I’ve ever heard, anyone know why?
I noticed that!
@@ssnoc See the link that I posted. It's nice meeting another Lou Grant Fanatic! Is anyone else going to the MTM/Lou Grant Show Convention this June?
Makes me wish Red Dead Redemption 2 was out.
Back when overdubbing lines of dialoge was horrible.
@Zoomer30 *dialogue 🙂
Still Using Sheets And Blankets On The Beds Lol
MrBobthebird - what do you use on your bed? Shower curtain?
What do “they” use on beds these days? Fill me in. I’m still using those antique sheets and blankets too.
@@ssnoc Thanks for making me laugh! Maybe folks don't have time to wash all those bed linens anymore.
