We heard here that snow could get to 24"...no fun! And one of the lesson to not learn by experience is that you can be or you can be cold but you absolutely can't let yourself get cold AND wet. You're doing it exactly the way to stay on the trail.

You are being wise to stay off the trail in this weather. Just because the sun is shinning doesn't necessarily mean its warm. And yes the sun in Blairsville was a welcome sight today. Better to be smart than get yourself in trouble.

I know that feeling of wanting to press on it is so tempting to get those miles. However, reviewing the weather and talking to other hikers on the trail I find it best to heed with caution. Bad weather with a combination of high winds is a bad idea. Chances of falling trees or limbs, slipping or tripping can a situation one does want to be in. I am glad you are waiting it out. Wow, I never thought of having a friend hiking the opposite direction and exchanging keys on the trail. what a great idea. Always learning something new.

  • @MishapAmethystHikes

Mishap also wears CPAP for sleep apnea and we've debated options for him while on trail. So far, his apnea is fairly controlled if he stays on his side and doesn't sleep on his back so he's not going to pursue a dental device. But that will be our go-to next step if needed. Some people carry a travel CPAP but the battery packs are insanely expensive and heavy to boot - upwards of 6lbs in CPAP equipment! 😵
The trail will still be there once the snow melts - stay safe and keep up the videos!

It was VERY cold that April, so the battery didn't last planned, but I could charge it every few days since there were several places along the trail in Shenandoah. It wasn't light to carry, but it allowed me to hike some.
