I absolutely love Korg synths. They are great for beginners, everything is so well layed out. Always awesome to see the wave form when playing too, more synths need this!!
If you want this sound as part of a larger studio set up with a DAW, the Minilogue XD is an excellent value way to go. That’s what I did. It’s not my main instrument, but I can add these sounds and textures to recordings with the 4 voices available.
Vintage & Analog definitely sound totally different. I choose vintage. For example: Roland Jupiter 8, SH-7, 5. This guy sounds more identical in character as my V-Synth GT. Only the GT has tons more possibilities...
Wow! This is the first test video of a synthesizer that fascinates me so much!!! What sounds it has!!! It's a dream!!! Full 80s!!! Although I'm only 24 y old, I love 80s synthpop! I just dream of a synth like this. :(
esquilax is your in a position where a $1000-$1500 is far out of reach, a used XD for a few hundred bucks is a good deal. And it’s not nearly 1/4 of the synth. It has 2 huge features of the Prologue: sequencer with automation and 3 effects at once. I personally prefer the Prologue, but if you’re on a budget the XD makes total sense. How could you not get that?
People who came here expecting something like a Polysix should stop being so hard n picky towards the Prologue, This is a modern synth, NOT VINTAGE its not designed to emulate a OBX or a Jupiter, Modern sounding synths should sound thin in certain situations you dont always need warmth, get off the bloody vintage trip and enjoy these beauties for what they are, instead of nit-picking the weaknesses lets focus on the strengths of which this synth seems to have in spades...
Okay, it's a modern synth, NOT vintage, so what? It's okay for people to make comparisons and expect certain similarities since it's being sold as a Flagship with a vintage sound-alike . People, like me, that are considering buying this synth needs to know the weaknesses as well as the strengths. It's NOT nitpicky to want to know all the features that are missing. For instance, it has just 1 LFO (!!!) it lacks polyphonic after touch (!!!), there is no motion sequencer (like its siblings), a limited mod matrix, a limited arpeggiator with no pattern editor, no CV, and no midi thru. It also lacks a switchable 2-/4-pole Lowpass Filter that the Minilogue has. At $2000 I expect these features. While I applaud all the features it does have I am disappointed, as a potential buyer, by all the typical features that synths half its price have and that I can absolutely use.
there is a massive portion of the community that wants a jupitor 8 or oberheim 8 voice, why won't korg or roland hook us up? The ob6 is the closest sounding moderns synth ive seen and that's only 6 voices!
love the way this sounds with its more unusual features being used. Too close in price to the ob/prophet 6's to not compete on basic sound, though I could see preferring the more tweakable sounds here. Oscillators and digital source sound great.
I've demo'd a fair number of classic analog and modern synths, and to my ears this is one of the few modern analogs that can match that certain something that classic analogs have. Sure it doesn't have a lot of modulation, but neither did a lot of the most popular synths of all time. It's got a very distinct character and a rich sound. If I ever have the room for another keybed I would definitely consider this among my top choices. Unfortunately I prefer desktop modules to save space and to allow me to use my preferred keybed.
This shows how important is to have player with good taste and good presets to make a good review/selling video on RUclips. This player doesn't have same taste as me and those presets doesn't inspire me at all (most of them). But I think this is great synth thou. Anderton's review I liked much more.
Be aware that although the Prologue sounds great, it does not send or receive midi volume (CC7) so if you're using it in a midi rig, it's gonna be a standalone instrument. No idea why Korg would do that.
This is a very good point. Any keyboard over a certain size should be able to pull master controller duty and this one is about that size. I hate finding out things like this after the fact. I bought an EHX 6 channel looper as soon as it came out thinking "surely as expensive and advanced as this thing is, it's gonna support variable loop lengtths per channel." Nope.
I love me a hybrid...it reminds me of an ensoniq sq80 but more.. I know the 8 has 2 analog oscillators and one fm oscillator..its the best of both worlds.. I've had analog and it's amazing but hybrids are diffrent..yea it's not as warm but it's damn close!..i was gunna get the minilogue but I'll save for a bit and get this beast!
sooperheep is the compressor really worth it? I’ve been considering upgrading from the 8 just for that and having the split/layer controls on the interface.
I don't understand what's happening at the 1:30 mark... (Don't know how to time stamp, sorry) - I thought the prologue didn't have a sequencer, but it sounds like it's playing one. Shopping for my first synth and I like the full size keys and control layout of this one.
I like this synth... I have a couple of lovely analog synths... Voyager XL, Sub 37 (which I've considered trading for a dominion 1) & Jupiter 6 with Europa kit & Im really liking how this sounds. I played with one & it's different. The Europa Jupiter 6 turns it into whole different beast & can't be compared with much else. It's not a Jupiter 8, but wasn't meant to be I believe? Have been gassing over a Sequential Circuits or DSI synth but just can't quite decide on one. I like the filters on both the new sequential synths, one lotto winnI wished, but don't we all! The versatility of the Prophet 12 & Rev 2 seem great, but don't connect well with the filters, sound is so personally subjective. I'm wondering if this Prologue is a happy medium
If you get the opportunity at a store or in a studio, play the Prologue 16 v next to your Sub37. That's what convinced me to buy it. I get mine tomorrow. If anything add the MFB Dominion. I most likely will but I am keeping the Sub37. It does so much that I am not parting with it
For less than 500$, the Minilogue provide a 12db/24db filter ; for nearly 2000$, the Prologue 16 will provide a simple 12db/oct filter !! Quite weird !
I actually am starting to like this synth. It sounds better than the prophet in my opinion, probably because I prefer VCO tone to DCO. Sucks that it only has 1 LFO and no mod matrix? Also, this video doesn’t sound as good as some others I’ve seen. All in all, I think it’s a great synth for the price, especially used for cheaper. I’ve never owned a korg, besides some volca stuff that I sold because it was just too cheap and my hands are very large. I think this may be a good solution to owning a good sounding VCO poly with additional digital oscillators thrown in.
I think the Prologue sounds quite metallic and industrial compared to my Prophet-6, which sounds "woody" and organic to me. However it's what sound you want. The Prophet-6 presets I don't like much - but making my own sounds on it, I find many that I really like a lot and they sound uncannily like acoustic instruments.
Depends... i think its great because it has 32 VCOs for the price and analogue filters... BUT i have a kronos and have to say it sounds almost identical to the AL-1 engine of the kronos which is virtual analogue... so what do VCOs give you if they dont sound like VCOs. I think i have to buy a Prophet Rev 2 even though it has DCOs. But it just sounds more like an analogue synth to me. Though decision. What do you guys think about the Prologue?
Korg has combined Minilogue's POLY and DUO modes, so that as you turn the voice depth knob in POLY mode it morphs into DUO mode and increases detuning. Chord inversion seems to be totally absent.
what were all the pieces of music being played? many of these melodies are recognisable but i can't quite put my finger on most of them. i believe there was some Kraftwerk at the beginning and i heard some Mario Kart last lap in the middle. please clue us in
It is sad that to get a lot of the cool sounds you’re getting you need to relegate one hand to modulation duties that should be handled by a second LFO, aux EG or aftertouch. Sounds beautiful though. I’ve got to laugh at the people who think their Korg workstations will do these sounds as well. Uh... no.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that? LOL! I guess it's more dramatic. maybe next they could just grab the knob and walk all the way around the keyboard stand to turn it.
I think it started as a "DJ" thing. They do it because it makes them feel like they're doing something important as the records play. Maybe this guy is s big Skrillex fan
The sond quality seem very nice, but the more or less total lack of modulation possibilities in soundcreation is rather astonishing. Add to this that you seem to need an degree in C++ to use the digital oscillators to their full ability. It's back to back competitor the REV 2 - though using DCO's, and not having the digital oscillator - have 4 LFO's, 3 envelopes and a 4 track modulation sequencer. For the same price. Demanding 2000 euros for this one, despite it's absolute beauty, seem ... quite a bit out there.
I think moreso they just should have made it even better and charged more. This is just frustratingly inbetween, its in no mans land, for me at least. Its not like it really has the CV implementation to add LFOs and aftertouch and such. I love Korgs analogs thus far, glad they are going big with a lush VCO poly, but it seems like they might as well gone BIG.
sounds fairly polysixish in some aspects but some digital sounding oscillator blended on some patches and kind of digital aspects going on that sound sucky in places. It doesn't sound like a toy til that stuff goes on. hehe. Reading a blog... ahh that appears to be what is going on ...1 VCO/voice and DCO of some kind with it.
I think we are seeing the 80's sounds make a huge comeback, that's the big piece of the puzzle to fix the music industry, but we need the record labels to re embrace the 80's sound like it did in the 80's! And songs by bands like the weekend is close but it needs the big Simmons hex drums and we need that style to hit the top of the charts to beat out people like Nicki Minaj!
Ryan Tervo that formula has worked throughout the history of music. Recreate and update a successful style from the past. To do it so well that people don't even realise where yhe original came from is the real skill.
I have been researching for an answer and has been hard to find one. Rev2 users complain most on the filter, hard programming and quality of sounds as does not feel like analogue, Prologue users complain about the lack of sequencer and aftertouch but strong points are it does sound like an 80s analogue machine. Rev2 can be upgraded to 16 voices with an expansion card. Your choice has to be based on what do you want to do I guess. I think I will choose the Prologue
well this is nice but I've been picking up fairly inexpensive and used vintage stuff like a Virus C, AN1x, even an Evolver, and having a hell of a time. No need to spend the bank on new toys. Why even the Quantum is way over the top. So just give that a thought...
The vintage synths are amazing! But they do require upkeep, they're not under warranty, and they don't have the extensive internal effects. All of this can, of course, be dealt with, but it depends on what you want to deal with versus the initial price tag :-)
Nothing you listed would really qualify as vintage unless someone reads this comment 15 years from now. As someone else mentioned, it all depends on what you want. None of those synths can do what this can do, and vice versa.
deepmind is great especially for the money, but your not gonna quite get this sound. Get what you pay for to a degree for sure. Is it worth the difference? That's up to you. That's experience from fiddling with both.
Hard to hear the differences based on a youtube videos. While I do think the deepmind is an incredible synth for its price, I'm also super excited to see some of the new innovations in the Prologue. Wavetable + user created custom oscillators? FM & variable phase mod? Can't wait to see some demos of those from people who know how to use them.
Not bad at all. But compare this to an MS20. I feel this thing still sounds digital. It sounds pretty clear which is good but I miss the deep bass which are so typical for analogue. Also, I miss the JX3P type analogue strings... Still I want one! :-D
Gross movements are easier to control in a stressful environment, such as a live performance. Seems to me that he only uses his whole arm when he's playing at the same time.
Minilogue is 500. So Im paying 1500 bucks for more voices, an FM Oscillator and a Low end Compressor, as well as removing the sequencer completely. No thanks.
61 full size keys, multi-timbre, split keyboard, etc...all good, but I too have voiced my discontent about the single LFO, no CV, no midi thru and other missing features too.
Nearly very sound is scratchy and metallic. What's the point of an analog synth that sounds like someone is dragging sandpaper across your ears? We're gonna need a bigger reverb.
This thing seems to be able to make every sound i would want a synth to make and there is nothing i have heard that would make me think you guys know what you are talking about.
I A/B'd a minilogue with a prophet 6 and (other than the obvious differences) the difference is surprisingly thin, if not nonexistent, especially when you add some effects that the prophet has already built in. I'd hope and assume the prologue is better than the minilogue.
Sounds kinda thin and digital to my ears compared to classic analog synths. All the korg stuff does I think, but at this price its just not worth it at all. Compare this to the new Dave smith OB-6 or a classic roland juno and it will sound weak. Might as well just get the behringer deep mind. Its half the price and sounds the same.
Nathan Lambertson I think you should get the Deepmind. That will make you and your pocket happy and it is an excellent machine. If you really believe your statements against the Prologue then more power to you. Me? I'm getting the Prologue. I don't agree with your opinion but respect to yours
1800 bucks is actually pretty cheap for a synth of this caliber. Can i go run out and buy one? Not right now, but other synths can easily be 3x as much.
I am so glad that I don't have no gigs and my team aren't playing at home this weekend. I get the Prologue 16 v tomorrow and I get to play it next to my Sub37 and KARP Odyssey. Keyboardist's and musicians Heaven
Meh, nah . Would be easier to tell if someone actually sequenced some house or techno with this thing. Sounds hella digital but it could just be his style he's doing and presets he picked
Soft synths are synths too, and when they emulate analogue synths the sound the same as them (as long as they have antialiasing filters and oversampling). You were expecting what, some magical pixie analogue dust?
Well, the reverb works.
No talking videos = the best way to discover an instrument.
Thank you !!
I absolutely love Korg synths. They are great for beginners, everything is so well layed out. Always awesome to see the wave form when playing too, more synths need this!!
On of the best new gen synths! Its like if you want futuristic sound but don't want digital plugins, and want to work with analog
Way to mix up the playing and knob tweaking. Excellent demo! A day without knob tweaking is like a day without sunshine! Tweak on!
Ugh, I shouldn't have listened to this... Now I want it :(
It sounds amazing.

Get the Minilogue XD! It’s very similar but way cheaper!

Nathan Chisholm no such thing as “dated”.
Good looking synth.
this brass at 8:45ish.. wow
3:41 that's the melody from "Zelda: A Link to the Past", the song name is Sanctuary Dungeon - Lost Ancient Ruins 🙂

Is the Chord Inversion feature from the Minilogue still built in? I believe it's set on chord mode and via voice depth knob.
Korg has combined Minilogue's POLY and DUO modes, so that as you turn the voice depth knob in POLY mode it morphs into DUO mode and increases detuning. Chord inversion seems to be totally absent.

VCO too!

Does is have a unison mode with programmable detune?
This sounds fairly similar to my MKS80, which is amazing, but it could never replace a Super Jupiter without that unison with detune.

imo Rev 2 if you want really classic poly synth sounds, Prologue if you want something a bit more "out there"
it's basically the decision between having aftertouch vs having digital oscillators

I had an AN200 which has sounds from the AN1X, they are great, also owned a Virus. You have good synths there!
Sounds better than the REV2 but not better than the ob6. But looks like it has more features than the ob6. Difficult to choose.
I agree. I'd love to see an OB6 for 2 grand, though!
Sorry Rev2 better than ob6
Would the Behringer DEEPMIND 12 be similar to this at a lot less money? They both seem to be similar sounding / type synths.
deepmind is great especially for the money, but your not gonna quite get this sound. Get what you pay for to a degree for sure. Is it worth the difference? That's up to you. That's experience from fiddling with both.
Alex Bush The deepmind sounds much better then this synth. The prologue sounds cheap.
I wonder how it’s selling? My guess is not so good. Korg needs to go back to sub $500 poly synths, or Behringer will corner that market.
Blade Runner 2049 anyone??
Soo much reverb I feel like I'm in a Mike Dean video
another NOISE maker
soundcloud.com/synth_nyc you've reminded me about Deckard's Dream ;)
How is it simply a “NOISE” maker? Seems a bit reductive...
They usually make noise yeah
Gary Watson Jr. That's literally what a synth is.
Not bad at all. But compare this to an MS20. I feel this thing still sounds digital. It sounds pretty clear which is good but I miss the deep bass which are so typical for analogue. Also, I miss the JX3P type analogue strings... Still I want one! :-D
On youtube all sound digital... XD
Lawrence O MS20 is not a polysynth.
Does he really have to twist his whole arm to turn the knob? I mean really...
I've always hated when people do that. They're told to do that for effect.
it's called playing. it's different than pushing the elevator button.
Standard performance technique. Many players who play for a living do this.
Gross movements are easier to control in a stressful environment, such as a live performance. Seems to me that he only uses his whole arm when he's playing at the same time.
dam
delay and reverb should have independent controls; also split voice is nothing new.
he strongly "smells" with a figure that looks like A6. where is a warm vintage analog?
It's Analog, not Vintage, analog synth sounds can be modern. Focus on the positives
Sounds very digital and sterile to my ears. (Having also tried this synth in person)
André Mehmari ure crazy!
dingbatjack1234 No he’s right as the third oscillator is digital and has Wavetable and FM tones on some patches.
Having also played the Prologue in person, I would say the opposite. Very warm and musical sounding synth.
André Mehmari agreed. It ain’t no OB6.
Stick with the minilogue, Korg

Interesting - sounds thin and weedy at certain points where it should I think it was meant to sound fat.
That because of the 2 pole filter, no 24db 4 pole filter available on this unit.
only a 2 pole? I think I just decided not to buy one of these.
I mean, for what it does, its great, but the only good 2-pole is a steiner-parker
Sounds like a rev2 from ds smith
Not at all.
I guess I would literally be ahead buying four minilogues for the same price.
i think its not multi timbral, they say bi-timbral and for the split thing as far as i get it, idk though!!!
If you think the sound engine and the actual design is even closes to your 500 you're dreaming!
Nearly very sound is scratchy and metallic. What's the point of an analog synth that sounds like someone is dragging sandpaper across your ears? We're gonna need a bigger reverb.
Thin and glassy! Cool, but not worth the money.
Y'all need to look at some other demos...
I'd hope and assume the prologue is better than the minilogue.
you do realize that youtube compresses audio right?
i want the 16 note poly version but with multimode filter... Yes don't exist.
0:58 gta V ahah
Hotline Miami anyone?
How about all talking no playing? 😂✌️
korg volka keys with a real keyboard soundwise)
Worse of Dave Smith Rev 2?
Sounds kinda thin and digital to my ears compared to classic analog synths. All the korg stuff does I think, but at this price its just not worth it at all. Compare this to the new Dave smith OB-6 or a classic roland juno and it will sound weak. Might as well just get the behringer deep mind. Its half the price and sounds the same.
it's supposed to be partially digital
Nathan Lambertson I think you should get the Deepmind. That will make you and your pocket happy and it is an excellent machine. If you really believe your statements against the Prologue then more power to you. Me? I'm getting the Prologue. I don't agree with your opinion but respect to yours
sexy
so expensive....
minilogue xd is a lower priced alternative
The Monologue is a great beginner synth if you don't mind it being monophonic.
1800 bucks is actually pretty cheap for a synth of this caliber. Can i go run out and buy one? Not right now, but other synths can easily be 3x as much.
id rather ha ve a dave smith polyevolver or moog sub37...
I don't :-)
sub37 is monophonic though. better compared with a DS rev 2
I am so glad that I don't have no gigs and my team aren't playing at home this weekend. I get the Prologue 16 v tomorrow and I get to play it next to my Sub37 and KARP Odyssey. Keyboardist's and musicians Heaven
1 st, i would delete the metalic noises, then play some musicality. No horror. Thanks !
Meh, nah . Would be easier to tell if someone actually sequenced some house or techno with this thing. Sounds hella digital but it could just be his style he's doing and presets he picked
LA HC techno???
Had one for a few weeks. Then sold it. Absolutely nothing special about it, sonically or otherwise.
If you don't mind me asking, what were you using it for?
@@pressx4ent He probably misstook it for a MIDI-controller.
James Reeno Agreed no soul
Were you using it wrong?
@Sleeping and how to sound design, factory presets often need tweaking for best results
sounds like a soft synth to me - perhaps just a tad better?
Better speakers or headphones make a big difference when listening on YT. Even some of the Moog videos sound soft synth-ish.
It's great synth, but this demo is not ;)
Soft synths are synths too, and when they emulate analogue synths the sound the same as them (as long as they have antialiasing filters and oversampling). You were expecting what, some magical pixie analogue dust?
Montażownia nr1 this IS a great demo 👍
Tony Stephenson Nope.
