    Fantastic race! What an exciting line up for the anchor legs. Freeman did very well to pass Gunnell who was no slouch and an experienced anchor runner. Thanks for posting!

    The choice was either cut across and hope for the best, or come 4th. Ideally she would have taken the outside earlier, but she was very young here.

    Love Cathy, but she made TWO big mistakes! One, she should have moved to the very inside position to receive the baton from Poetschka. (They coulda been DQ’d just from that!) Two, she needed to wait to move to the outside coming off the final turn. She knew Yusuf was right there, and needed to wait til the straightaway to fully pass Yusuf, then bolt outside to try and pass Gunnel. Sad, but the Aussies got DQ’d. England were awarded Gold

    Poetschka should have stayed in the 2nd or 3rd lane she had to link up with freeman.it would have put freeman in 1st position on the last leg .great run but a mess at the end.

      @@garrywallace1007No, the team that is leading the race at the 3rd handoff, gets the inside position! Cathy shoulda noticed this when Poetschka was coming down the straightaway, and moved to the inside to receive the baton. Athletes jockey for position all the time for that positioning

      @@rolandgreen7484 Yusef had every right to be exactly where she was. Cathy(who I have the utmost respect for) was completely at fault and to attempt to make any kind of case to the contrary displays either a complete lack of knowledge of track running or some kind of bias. This DQ really wasn't a difficult call.

    • @markhiggins8315
      @markhiggins8315 4 года назад

      Bradderz - Sadly Cathy gave the officials absolutely no choice.
      You can't change lanes, cutting across another athelete unless you have significant clearence.
      Yusuf had every right to be exactly where she was and was cut up by Cathy's very rash lane change probably due to panicking because she got herself boxed in.
      Clear DQ.
      Unfortunate because Australia should have won but such a clear infringement was never going to be overlooked.

    • @markhiggins8315
      @markhiggins8315 4 года назад

      @@rolandgreen7484 I get you're point but it's possible Yusuf felt that the bend isn't the time to move to a wider lane as you are giving away too much ground.
      I agree that if Yusuf was intending to pass the other atheletes then she did need to make a move soon.
      All this is all irrelevant however as Yusuf kept to her lane and Cathy crossed her and cut her up making a DQ more than likely.
      It's not great to get boxed in but that situation was Cathy's own fault.
      Cathy went on to be a great and iconic athelete but it was a real shame for the other girls on the team. Having said that it is highly unlikely they would have been gold medalists without Cathy on the team.

    • @markhiggins8315

      @@rolandgreen7484 I think the bottom line is probably that Yusuf was a bit asleep on the job and Cathy panicked. I agree Yusuf probably didn't do the expected thing which might have caught Cathy out a bit but by the rules Cathy made the infringement and Yusuf was blameless( but I agree she did in a way contribute to causing to the incident).

      Harvey wolfe…..Freeman (who was boxed in on the rail) cut directly in front of Yusuf without clearance; and you think it's Yusuf's fault? Apparently you don't know the rules in track and field. That was a clear violation.

    • @stevecrocker6904

    • @Bronxxxnyc

      In track, the lead runner cannot switch lanes or directly cut in front unless they have clear space. Freeman clearly did not have room to switch lanes without inpeding the runner behind her. The DQ was not only justified, but was a no brainer.

    • @surajssubramanian7327

      DQ was right

    • @owenmorris9828
      @owenmorris9828 4 года назад

      The DQ was fair because Freeman ran straight across of the Nigerian Runner which caused them to pull up and not finish the race. She impeaded the runner because she clearly tripped when Freeman went in front of her, it would have been different if there was no contact however she clearly cut in front of her which caused her to become injured and unable to finish the race so it was very fair they Australia were DQ.
