I hesitate to differ with the judge's ruling based on a summary of the case. There are too many details and nuances that could not be known or included in the time limits for a video. She was deliberate and undoubtedly knew what she was doing was illegal, immoral and unethical. This was not just a crazy whim. She was fortunate not to receive a long prison sentence. I suspect that she missed some education from her family and schooling.
Additionally, what she did probably makes people less likely to donate to support people with true needs.

Stunningly bad take from Grande on this one.
Russo's scam wasn't even original; she witnessed the way people reacted to a family friend - Brent Ohl - dying of pancreatic cancer and thought "I would love that attention!"
Moreover, Russo scammed the very foundation made in Brent's memory. Brent's widow, Peggy, expressed disappointment with the plea deal IN COURT. The victims all wanted Maddie to go to prison and thought the plea deal was too soft.
But here's Grande saying just having a felony on record is 'too harsh'?! You have got to be joking. What a slap in the face to the victims.
My advice to Grande - stay off of GoFundMe or you'll go broke falling for all the *pretty* cheaters and liars.

Dr Grande, a nuance in the "lifelong" effect of a felony conviction. While it's true that such info may be available in some places for a long period of time, there any many federal and state laws and civil procedural rules that limit disclosure of, searching for, and use of such info for housing employment, etc. after a certain period of time. So its effect will significantly abate over a period of time. It should absolutely be on her record as a judgment.

I knew a girl in high school who faked cancer. She even shaved part of her hair off and posted a pic of it on her pillow with the caption “why me”
She claimed that her little brother, who also attended our school, didn’t know about it so we were supposed to keep it secret. her mom was also a teacher at the school and she was a cancer survivor herself. The girl asked us not to bring it up to her mom because it was too distressing for her to talk about.
I was the only one who saw through her bullshit and she HATED me 😂. Nobody else would challenge her on it and one of her friends even went as far as to shave the side of her head as “tribute” to the girl’s cancer struggle. Eventually other people started to agree with me that her stories didn’t add up and they confronted her mom about it.
The girl also had lied about several other things such as a brother that she said had passed away from the same cancer (she never had such brother) and that her mom accidentally misspelled her first name on the birth certificate. Absolutely nuts.

In my experience in the medical field, a serious illness that can lead to death is the only thing that will bring certain families together, mostly because society has no forgiveness for families that knowingly allow their members to die.
It's not because they are being suddenly concerned, they are just aware of the serious consequences.
It's also common for family members to greatly exaggerate an illness so the family is not sure if it is likely to lead to death.

    "St. Ambrose College"😇😇😇
It's more than fitting that St. Ambrose is mentioned in this video. Anyone who has read the Confessions of St. Augustine will recognize the important event that took place in that author's life when he watched Ambrose, then Bishop of Milan, in the process of reading "Sacred Scripture." Unlike the common practice of reading out loud, Ambrose decided that it was more fitting, at least for him, to read the words silently to himself before speaking about the text. We are now aware that there is a skill known as "exegesis" or the ability to not only decode words as they should be spoken orally, but also the capacity to decipher the meaning behind the words. This is exactly what Ambrose's practice "revealed" to the eager St. Augustine, not yet a saint, but someone searching for the truth.
An exegetical account of Madison Russo is now in order. What should we make of a claim that someone is having or suffering from cancer? This is a good question to ask when we delve into the "text" of Madison Russo's life. I think it's fair to say that all the advertising about multiple health problems was a cover for a deeper illness. The illness was not cancer, but the cancer of illness. The remedy for the cancer of illness is a good court hearing and a just punishment.
There is no doubt that cancer is an illness, a complex one to be sure, one not fully understood by medical professionals. ON the other hand, how much is really known about the cancer of illness? Fraud is a type of illness. Fraud makes relationships worse. It also causes stress. This is because we are required to be truthful in life. Who imposes this requirement? It's our own conscience which should be sensitive to the harm we might cause to others. Madison decided to move in a world of images and videos. She was alienated from actual relationships. Therefore, she was consumed by the cancer of illness and not the illness of cancer. Thank you.

Overdue Update: Maddie’s cancer has been progressively getting worse and has spread all over her body including throughout her blood and also on her spine. She has tried everything and given it her all.
Chemo, radiation, and other methods have no longer helped. She has decided to start a clinical trial drug to see if this could be a miracle and put Maddie in remission. The process is unfortunately not short and will be years ahead. Yet, she is still smiling, even with feeding tubes and IV poles Maddie thanks all of you for your continued support and prayers during this time and she wants you to know how grateful she is for each and everyone of you all. She says she wishes she could “just go and give everybody a big Maddie hug and individually thank each person.” Without this support, she would not be where she is today and couldn’t have made it this far. Men fake all that stolen valor stuff, women fake for sympathy. Some men fake for sympathy that look like Jussie S.

Christopher Wade Nelson sentenced a few weeks ago for illness fraud.
Kevin Bevis restraining order for faking having cancer.
There’s an Irish GAA player who’s currently being investigated for illness fraud.
Rob Mercer currently being investigated for faking colon cancer, setting up a GoFundMe so he could enter a poker match in Vegas.
Lots more examples from just this year. But you are right we seem to hear about women more. Maybe we don’t expect women to lie about illness so it’s more news worthy?

You think her mother and father are saying "You're doing a fine job Madison, keep up the great work, nobody cares what everyone says" . She's also away on college, her parents don't know what she's doing. Yet she is old enough to know what's right and wrong and go down that path

You can’t blame the parents. I have two grown children, one a conscientious family man with integrity, and one the exact opposite. Both brought up by me.

Madison’s behavior was disgusting but I don’t think we should assume it was the parent’s fault.

Peggy Russo absolutely knew. Peggy helped Maddie get speaking gigs and donations. Peggy enabled it because she's just like Maddie - willing to keep up any/all appearances if it means attention and $$$
