I know the feeling of running low on wood. Did that for the first 2 years and man it sucked. I know you’ll get through this winter. Deff hard first year with new machine but you’ll know more on what you need after this year! Keep it up brother!
Yeah man I really wasn’t sure how much wood I needed for this winter. I had an idea but I also didn’t really stock pile my own wood like I normally do. Plus kiln is still running. So next year I will make sure I have boiler wood everywhere. Haha
This Arctic blast is no joke, I imagine you're going through a bunch of wood with the house, shops, and kiln. Thankfully no snow so you're not running the snow melt
It’s really just that the kiln demands a lot. If that was off. Honestly the wood demand would be cut in half. I go out of town on a few weeks and the kiln will be off and I bet the wood consumption is half. We will see.
Yes I definitely knew that. I just kind of forgot to stock pile boiler wood all year. Haha just a little too much going on. But I’ll get it figured out.
That firebox is huge - - you ever think of throwing all those sticks you had in your burn pit in your boiler. Probably not worth that many BTUs, but if you have no wood, every BTU counts.
I did a lot of that the other day. For how much goes in you get honestly like no BTU’s. But I do keep some around for when the coal bed gets low. Really helps get the fire going good.
@@Treestofirewood yea didn't know if it was worth it, probably really smoky in your building too. I burn sticks in mine, but I deal on a much smaller scale than you
Fair to say you had no idea how much wood you were going to need for the new boiler. It is a beast. I know you have been building up your solar panel bank and is there anyway you can incorporate that with your boiler to reduce some of the draw on the amount of wood you burn?
It’s not that I didn’t have an idea on how much wood I would go through. Because I have been burning since I got it back in the spring. I just didn’t really stock pile any wood for the winter. And with heating so much more than normal and having the kiln going still that really demands the wood. But I do have plans in the near future to help the boiler with my solar set up. But need to build up the battery bank and get a whole lot more panels. One day I will get there.
I have seen that video he did on the boiler commander. I’d like to see a month review on it with wood consumption vs without. The boiler commander is pretty much what the gassers use to regulate the burn. I may one day look more into it. I do think there’s some efficiency to gain at certain times within the cycle.
Do you like using the ibc totes? I got a skid steer just finished repairs. 25hp won’t lift the wet totes, but probably the dry. You think it makes them significantly easier to move around and use ? Vs say wood crates?
@ ok thanks. I started transitioning to ibc totes. Wanted to make sure I’m doing the right thing. The wooden crates also tend to crack if the weight shifts :-/
I use the 275gal size IBC totes for firewood. I only put 1/4 cord in them so that my Kioti 2610 (25hp) will move them wet or dry. They work great for moving firewood around the property and I can lift them high enough to dump them in my dump trailer to sell if needed.
I got two questions first question is what's in the kiln? And whatever is in the kiln when will it be ready to burn you keep saying to bring semi wet wood what's what are you doing with the kiln wood what's in it I guess I just don't understand the whole process anyway if you can answer the question fine if not don't worry about it's no big deal just wondering have a good day!
The wood in the kiln has production firewood that I sell to customers. Along with some oak firewood that we burn in the house and a few totes of boiler wood. The dried boiler wood I mix with wet boiler wood in the boiler.

something about burning firewood to dry firewood that just seems cool.
Yeah i make the best out of all my wood if i can.
Great video Matt
Thank you.
Hi Matt
Nice video !
But you knew that if you demanded performance from the BEAST ...she Gotta Be Fed !! LOL
You have a Good Day 😊
Yes I definitely knew that. I just kind of forgot to stock pile boiler wood all year. Haha just a little too much going on. But I’ll get it figured out.
@Treestofirewood Good Show !!
Good info regarding the wood boiler. Thanks
I always try to show my experiences and thoughts.

Check out Up in smoke video on improving your wood boiler . May help you out on improving your burn time

Keep them coming!!
I’m trying.

The advantage I get from the IBC totes is the pallet and sides don't rot or split. They are heavy with green wood.

I wouldn’t store my production wood any other way. With how my operation works it makes the most sense.
You won’t regret it

Lol, I'm having a hard time understanding your question , in fact, I dont ?????
He sells the wood that gets dried in the kiln.

@kendriedger151 haha
Great video Matt. Very interesting.
Thank you.
