    How about this one
Getting ready to set off from Oxfordshire to Old Oaks site nr Glastonbury last Thursday- caravan hitched up to car and some CLOT managed to snap the jockey wheel handle bolt!!!
After much gnashing of teeth and some colourful language we got in touch with a caravan service place in Highbridge and asked if they could help on the day if we drove down there and they very kindly obliged so we did.
Big shout out to MJ Lovell Caravan service and repairs Ltd.
They drilled the snapped bolt out and replaced the handle and got us on our way, we can’t thank them enough.
It’s businesses like these that keep us on the road and long may they prosper.
    Steve

I have a 2023 Bailey Grande similar to the one Mark is in, I can use the grill & oven with the lid down, I also could do the same on my last van a 2013 Swift, so it's just as well checking EVERY van before using

Brilliant video lots of good tips for newbies. We purchased a new coachman in January and had an issue during and after handover. The 13 pin plug bayonet outer collar locked in the wrong position and we didn’t have the green cap on our first trip away. There aren’t many dealers that stock them and Halfords, auto factor’s don’t stock them. Had to consult RUclips to fix. Contacted the dealer and insisted they replaced the plug. They did for an aftermarket quality one and it works all the time. New build cost saving fitting a poor quality plug.

The quality of all makes are now so poor. I would love to upgrade my van to an 8 foot wide but I'm also if it's not broken why fix it.
we did have a coachman and that was a solid van, 2009. have a unicorn 2014 now and seems we got a good one.

Good video Mark. 35 years of caravanning and we can all learn something’s. Just been to the caravan this weekend and cleaned and tested everything. A few years back when I did the water the test the loo was leaking water. It was the most simple fix but OMG was it expensive for a plastic nut.
Many years back we went away over Christmas and as my wife was cooking Christmas dinner the gas vale went. My advice is carry a spare because they never go in the morning while your next to an accessories shop do they.

Excellent advice. 👍 However, this weekend gone.....
1.) The caravan refused to pump to the onboard tank (bad external connections,).
2.) The microwave wouldn't heat food.
3.) The fridge wouldn't work on gas.
4.) The 12v leisure battery let go during the night and suddenly started to boil itself (explosive hydrogen sulphide gas).
Suffice to say, Easter finished early for us. 😮

    • @dazzle52k52

5.) And the magnet (door to van closure) pulled clean off the door side. Fixed that!

    Hi Mark
We had trouble with our heating for the first time out , the radiators did not get hot , we also noticed the G 13 had dropped n the wardrobe .
The caravan is only 2 yrs old , just wondering if you or some of your subscribers would know what the issue was .
P.S we had hot water and heat coming out the first meter of our the outflow.
Any help would be appreciated .
    Great content by the way.
    Keith

Hi Keith, the fluid needs to be at the minimum line when cold, this can be topped up with the Alde fluid same colour as it has already. I would then find the bleed valve in the bathroom, on the radiator, run the heating and then bleed the radiator, like you would at home. May then need to top the fluid up again, keep doing this until the heating is working as it should. Hope this helps 👍

A useful video. The best advice is to do a precheck but for many people who store their vans away from home this is not possible.
A couple of other things if you do have a problem.
    No 230v in the van.
    The fault could be
    1) power cut
    2) supply post fault or trip
    3) Cable fault
    4) Caravan fault oir trip
    My recommendation is ...
    a) Check the van trips
    b) Check the site supply trip
    c) Plug your cable into another post and your van
    d) Ask a neighbour if they have 230v
    e) Ask to borrow someone else's cable. Use it on your van and post
Single 230v device failure (e.g. fridge / Micro wave / charger / heater)
Most devices are plugged into using a domestic Plug / Socket.
The plug contains a fuse (just like at home) that needs checking
    No Gas
Check the internal gas manifold. Some dealers close these valves durin servicing and don’t open them again.
    Fridge not igniting
Many fridges have a battery (AA or AAA) build in to generate the spark.
    Priming the water system.
As you say the taps can spit during this process, draping a J cloth over the tap avoid splashes.

Hi Mark, I have just viewed your video about taking water into the caravan. I just bought a new Truma ultra water flow pump for my Bailey 640, but it keeps, every 20 minutes or so, kicking in, trying to take on water. I accidently leant on the yellow drain down in the closed position, and it started to also pull water in. Do you know why this is, and should this happen. Really enjoy your posts. Thanks

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  Месяц назад

Yes the drain valve will open even if pushed down. With the water pump it's either a leak or air, make sure you have the water through on the shower and sinks, hot and cold. The other thing you can check is when you remove the water pump with the system full of water, check water isn't leaking back out of the inlet as this can cause an issue too. Hope this helps.

Got a question I’ve got a 2001 swift changer with a trauma heater , the van was going cold during the night , as the heater was detecting the temperature is correct thing it was reading the temperature from the rear off the heater unit so I purchased a remote temperature sensor installed it but it has a plastic retention clip to fix to a cable behind the trauma heater my question is where is the optimum location for this room temperature sensor to be located as it only has a one meter cable it’s the one with the headphone jack and a red and black cable

Hi. When my water is heating up I get an electric burning smell. I can’t see anything when this happens. Plus I believe it’s not fully heating the water tank up as we only get hot water for a bowl full of water. It’s a Truma combi system. Any ideas ? Great vlogs 👍

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  3 месяца назад

If you get the smell when the blown air is on its possibly the fan in the boiler, they give off a plastic burning smell when on the way out. 👍

Hi went on our first ever caravan holiday in our new to us caravan and had a problem with the water pump, power was switched on and so was the pump, bleed the water through fine and water was running through all the taps and shower both hot and cold. problem was after turning off the taps then going to use them again no water would come through, went to the panel and the power and water pump were still switched on but had to keep turning the water pump off and on again every time we wanted water? and ideas what this could be?

    • @thecaravanplace
      @thecaravanplace  3 месяца назад

Hi Gary, it may be draining the water back into the water barrel, when you remove the water pump water shouldn't come out. If it is then this may be your problem. If not it may be the pump is pulling air. There are a few things that can cause this, so may be worth having an engineer try to isolate the issue.

The fuse if in the cassette location is under the cassette at the back. But it may come off the main pump or even Aux fuse in the main panel. If the lights dim when u press the pump button, the impeller is just stuck and still has power. Hope this helps.
