Jimi Hendrix is his idol. Uli is so obsessed with Jimi Hendrix that he ended up in a relationship with the last woman that Jimi was in a relationship with
Uli Jon roth is one of the most underated guitarists i listened to sky overture and have always been a fan of scorpions never knew he played this good until now i think him and scorpions should be inducted in the rock and roll hall of fame . he isn't a bad singer either
I was 44 when I first discovered Uli Jon Roth myself (and that was a few months ago). I thought that the best guitarist that the Scorpions had was Michael Schenker. Boy, was I wrong!!!
@@LeftistUprising I had the fortune of discovering Uli by mistake almost, when my dad bought a Scorpions compilation CD back in 1996, thinking it was a compilation of 80s love songs, but in reality it was a compilation of the Uli-era songs! @@ferrreira I'll check the Swiss TV show out which features Uli Jon Roth. I didn't know this back then, but I found out that Uli Jon Roth started the neo-classical fad of heavy metal in the late '70s.
@@LeftistUprising here it is: ruclips.net/video/e5-Mly7seMU/видео.html - and you're right about Uli being the father of neoclassical guitar. I think he predates even Ritchie Blackmore in doing that. that is exactly what I said he is a german Hendrix. but he is also a pure genious in his guitar work. Great guitar player. It is surprising that Uli after singing Polar Nights live in Tokyo didn't understand that he cannot reach high notes with his voice. In a recent interview Uli said that he was full of himself when he left scorpions in 1978. That makes me understand.
It's interesting what you said, because on his website Uli states that, even before forming Electric Sun, he was aware that his singing style was not mainstream and too "spoken word", but he couldn't find a suitable singer for their unorthodox style of music. Anyway, I like his singing style as much as I like Klaus Meine's or Freddie Mercury's. It's unique.
Ulrich Roth always had such a cool mysterious image especially in the USA before the advent of the internet! We had to buy some import albums to hear his guitar playing!
es verwundert mich immer wieder wie jemand der so unfassbar gut gitarre spielen kann wie Uli gleichzeitig so mies singen kann^^ aber okay, bei Klaus Meine ist es genau umgekehrt^

Excuse me, but that is patently ridiculous. Hendrix vocals often show up on many rock/pop "most underrated" lists. Though he didn't have range, the timbre and passion of his voice are both very rich. Its actually hard to cover his songs, vocally, because of this. Uli had neither of those vocal gifts. Uli was extremely gifted in playing guitar, as everyone knows. But if he had been merely average, nobody would want to let him sing lead ... as is the case within 99% of all bands, unknown and in garages everywhere.
Blackmore wasn’t very well known when uli got good first gig at 13. Blackmore wasn’t the first neoclassical player. He played some scales that would lend to that genre but it took a while for him to evolve into the semi neoclassical player that he became. Uli was a better neoclassical player than Blackmore and Randy Rhoads was miles ahead of both
Though he can no doubt sing, he has a boring voice. I would have loved to hear how the Scorpions would have developed with him by their side. Oh, they were extremely successful but listen to the pink-floyd-like fly to the rainbow from ´77... this would have been way less mainstream I believe.
@118433442290400980934 Uli is amazing, Yngwie is an egotistical show-off guitar wanker who can't write a solo that compliments a song to save his life.
I normally hate comments like this, but I will agree uli is a pretty shit vocalist but he is great on guitar and yngwie plays too many notes with nearly zero emotion.
uli was trained as a classical musician at an early age - he is accomplished on violin, piano and guitar. he doesn't play a thousand notes unless they serve a melodic purpose.
Been a fan of Uli Jon Roth ( Ulrich Roth)
Since the 70's.
now i understand why they called him the german hendrix ...fantastic playing and so high technic and lyrics level
Jimi Hendrix is his idol. Uli is so obsessed with Jimi Hendrix that he ended up in a relationship with the last woman that Jimi was in a relationship with

Definitely not underrated by people that appreciate real music.
I agree, because at that time, we still hadn't realized how guitar was played.
Uli is very smooth ,he makes playing guitar look so easy; great tone also.
