    Welcome to the world of Nemophila I see guitars behind you lol you just hit gold .2 years old as a band but packed full of A list musicians and a rising rock star in Mayu (vocals) Hazuki and Saki both on 7 strings are in the top handful in japan Bass Hara-san supper talent and Drummer Tamu regarded as at the top in japan her foot work is amazing and to think they only came together by chance to back the singer at some gigs due to her not having a band just before Covid struck .My god was that good for us because there storming the heavy music world with there fun and charm whilst ripping your face off .Go look at Oiran where the guitar work is amazing they were still getting used to playing together in that, twin solos at the same time in different octave ranges it sounds very strange till you see how its done .And Dissension there last song from Feb is very heavy and shows how Mayu can rupture ear drums lol.

    Fun reaction! Monsters is a great song and really shows off Mayu’s charisma. I believe this is a studio track over live video. In their recent streamed concert it was a bit heavier. Nemophila play a variety of styles and excel at all of them. I recommend Raitei (mv) and Oiran next, then maybe you’ll be ready for Dissension... maybe.

    Murata Tamu the drummer is excellent and a well known session drummer before Namophila, she can also sing, play keyboards and guitar. She did a Tama promo video a little while back showcasing a couple of Nemophila songs just focusing on drums. Oddly a joy to watch just her effortlessly crushing it with a big smile on her face too. Monsters is a "B" side that they perform a bit more aggressively on stage with less midi fill - it's even better. I love the line "We're so good - you will be alright". Mayu is not wrong.
    As far as guitar solo feeling goes - instead of looking like they are in pain they just get on with it. I think the amount of feeling is also appropriate to the song and not the guitarist's ego too. Saki is known for literally bending over backwards and shredding like a demon. She can inject all the feels when she wants to.

    This is probably the poppiest of their originals dropped so far--usually they bring it much heavier. This is probably THE new metal band to watch in the next few years. They just started in 2019 and are blowing up fast. Nemophila were founded in 2019. They are a supergroup composed of:
    Mary's Blood guitarist Saki
    ex-Lipstick vocalist Mayu
    ex-Disqualia guitarist Hazuki (also plays with Lisa-X)
    ex-Hölderlins bassist Haraguchi-san, and
    ex-Soramimi drummer Muratatam (also does other projects)
    Initially, they were just a side project, co-organized Mayu with some help from Saki. They started off posting metal covers of well-known rock, pop and metal songs. Then they began posting originals, starting with “Oiran” ruclips.net/video/eyb2NtPwcxc/видео.html They tend toward hard and heavy, but also do ballads and some pop covers.
    After Oiran, others to check (if you haven’t already) include "Dissension", which will fry whatever is left of your circuits: ruclips.net/video/26aMuahxz8c/видео.html and “Raitei”, which means “Thunder” in Japanese, and yes, they bring the thunder: ruclips.net/video/lh-dVLKP314/видео.html
    Saki is the only one who had been with a breakout band before (Mary’s Blood); Hazuki and Murata-tamu are also considered elite musicians and have worked with a lot of other top artists. Hara-san is the youngest but is clearly a great talent and has been developing in front of our eyes. And of course Mayu is quickly establishing herself as a one of the world’s top metal vocalists.
    Nemophila’s youtube channel: ruclips.net/channel/UCvoAeGZoC8giXP59NOZABIAvideos
    If you haven’t already, another band frequently suggested after Nemophila is Hanabie. Try “We Love Sweets” ruclips.net/video/G18yyvPCiTM/видео.html

    I’m glad you finally caught up with my new favorite band. It’s interesting that you started with Monsters. The poppy, Euro-beat inflected number is quite unlike any other Nemophila song; they are definitely a heavy metal band.
    Others will tell you to watch Dissention next, but I recommend you go directly to their live-in-studio recording of Orion to more fully understand Mayu’s charm and charisma and to get more of Tamu’s powerful metal drumming. Be sure also to check out all of their covers (they have only a few originals yet); especially the covers of other Japanese bands you have never heard of. My picks are Don’t Say Lazy and Zetsubo Billy

    Yeah I’m impressed by this band. They are a new band but they have a very cohesive vibe, which is impressive. They are working on their debut album currently, which I am very excited about. They have dropped some singles which are diverse and I’m not sure if they will be on the album or not. But I love them all. They also have released MV’S of them doing covers .. which I love. They covered AC/DC, KISS, Iron Maiden, to name a few. They also recently did an online show. Basically just go to their homepage and pick any song .. it’s gonna be good.

    You're becoming one my favorite reactors. And Nemophila is on my radar now, for sure. You're spot-on with your comments and, if I interpret what you're saying correctly, Nemophila's sound is kind of in-between Band Maid and Love Bites. I get that feeling as well. They have that groove! Of the 3 I find Band Maid and Nemophila the most interesting musically. I also agree that the technicality of the solo's is high but the feeling not as much--but, hey, this is just one song. I have to hear a lot more from Nemophila, just as you do. Glad I got another taste of their music, though, without it. If it's just some songs I can just not listen to those. No matter how great any band is when those kinds of vocals show up--male or female--it just kills my interest. I appreciate there's an art to it, but my ears don't like it. This is one of their rock-style songs. The main riff shares a slight similarity with Band-Maid's "Youth", both which came out around the same time so neither influenced the other. Nemophila has a ton of great originals and covers. They're one of my top 3 favorite Japanese bands. Def check out Raitei and Dissension.

      Building on your comments, they shred similarly to Lovebites and groove like Band-Maid. But when you check out Dissension or Oiran, you'll really find out they are their own thing.

    I hadn't heard this song by Nemophila yet, so thank you! I like this band a lot more when the singer sings instead of screaming, but that is the case with all bands for me. I prefer singing over screaming. 5 Finger Death Punch is the only band that seems to blend the two well.,

    Oh, need to do Raitei, great song, music video, you get better mix on guitars. Live the guitars are bit low. Dissension is a banger. Fighter is great hard rock song. Raitei has some great solos. They usually don't use keys. They do it in backing tracks here, done bybDrummer Marata Tamu. She plays piano, keys as well. This is from a live stream virtual concert early in year, and last august. Love Nemophila, Nemo, Band Maid, and Lovebites are incredible.

    Coming from a huge Band-Maid fan, I was curious about the reactions to this band I've been seeing so I decided to watch them first time here. And let's be honest, the only thing this group has in common with Band-Maid is they are an all girl band. This group is ok, but miles away from Band-Maid IMO. (Please note the IMO before anyone rages at me, thanks)

    • @RyanMear
      @RyanMear  3 года назад +2

      Agreed. My reaction was no bullshit, I enjoyed it! But the connection the Maids have with each other is palpable. This seems like a group of talented people jamming and doing it well

    • @tackle47
      @tackle47 3 года назад +1

      Love the Maids but why do so many Maidiacs have to always spout on about the perceived superiority of their favorite band. I have loved Band Maid for years but the fan base is pretty toxic. Hell Band Maid is the one band I have to see live but damn quit comparing them to every other band.

    • @interstellardave
      @interstellardave 3 года назад +3

      @@tackle47 I agree with you completely, even though I probably could be considered guilty of that as well, at times. Band Maid just seems to engender some kind of rabid loyalty, and I think I know why. Rock and Metal aren't the same things. You can find great metal bands all over the place--there's tons of them. Great hard rock bands seem to be far fewer and farther in-between. I think it's why old classic rock fans like myself get so damn excited when they discover Band Maid.
      It truly does stir up something inside. A hopefulness that had been gone for years, even decades, that exceptional hard rock still exists. The Band Maid fanbase seems to be full of people with that same exact experience. We become protective of it, because we want it to succeed so badly! Plus, let's face it, some fans of other bands do the same. I try to always remember that they're playing different styles, and direct comparisons--especially about playing ability--are problematic at best.
      I frequently have to defend Kanami against the prejudiced view that other guitarists are better than her, simply because she's not playing 5 minute solos, and is not trying to show off her technical skills every time. It's not her style, or desire, to do so. That style of playing fits better into metal--it's pretty much expected--but not in BM's style of melodic rock.

    • @tackle47
      @tackle47 3 года назад +1

      @@interstellardave great post and agree with all your post has to say. Kanami always serves the song and is restrained in her solos. I also am a long time, 53 Hard Rock and Metal fan and totally agree about the lack of modern good hard rock.

    They're actually more Band-Maid than Lovebites. If you listen to "Life", it's very much in the same vein as "Daydreaming" by Band-Maid, "Fighter" almost sounds like a mash-up of Band-Maid songs. They're heavier though (7-string guitars and 5-string bass will do that) and they're more aggressive (twin shredders and Mayu's intense vocals will do that), so I think a lot of people don't notice because they're so invested in putting bands into little boxes - as in, Band-Maid are Hard Rock and Nemophila are Heavy Metal, so therefore they must be completely different, but I think Nemophila are sort of like what Band-Maid might have been (although with a more metal edge) after World Domination if they'd followed the trajectory they seemed to be following since the beginning, which they didn't (not that there's anything wrong with that).

      Yeah, you seem to be one of those fans who did not like Band-Maid's Conqueror sound. Even tho I preferred the heavier sounds of WD, I found the songwriting in Conqueror to be bold and utterly f'n amazing. Sure, the overall sound was "poppier" - but the creativity was mind-blowing to me (so overall I loved the "direction"). Nemo has an absurd amount of talent (they fall into the "super band" category (Band-Maid being more of a "garage" band)), and it will be fun to watch them release more of their own music (not a big fan of super groups doing covers). Their instrumental ceiling as a band is higher than Band-Maid's because of their absurd chops (I mean, one of Band-Maid's instrumentalists learned to play on the job), but in the end - at least for me - it's about songwriting. Both bands have enough chops to do just about anything they want to (esp Nemo if they wanted to go into power metal territory), but this is not why most people listen to music. The Beatles were middling instrumentalists as a band (and they couldn't even read music), but the songs they made were legendary.
