She did a Tama promo video a little while back showcasing a couple of Nemophila songs just focusing on drums. Oddly a joy to watch just her effortlessly crushing it with a big smile on her face too. Monsters is a "B" side that they perform a bit more aggressively on stage with less midi fill - it's even better. I love the line "We're so good - you will be alright". Mayu is not wrong. As far as guitar solo feeling goes - instead of looking like they are in pain they just get on with it. I think the amount of feeling is also appropriate to the song and not the guitarist's ego too. Hey Ryan.....Im a huge Band Maid fan,,,,,,and they have that cute polite personality which I adore !!!!! Nemophila on the other hand has a total COOL factor going. Like they just know their bad ass with that Japanese politeness. If this band hadn't formed right before Covid I think they would be a lot more popular.
Agreed, those are my two fav original songs from them, however they also have a whole ton of amazing covers. Excited to see what they bring along this year 🤘🕊️
You're becoming one my favorite reactors. And Nemophila is on my radar now, for sure. You're spot-on with your comments and, if I interpret what you're saying correctly, Nemophila's sound is kind of in-between Band Maid and Love Bites. I get that feeling as well. They have that groove! Of the 3 I find Band Maid and Nemophila the most interesting musically. I also agree that the technicality of the solo's is high but the feeling not as much--but, hey, this is just one song. I have to hear a lot more from Nemophila, just as you do. No telling what these ladies have in store for us.

Great reaction as usual, Ryan. Thanks for getting to these ladies. This band was put together by Saki, the guitarist on screen right. She plays in a couple of other bands most notably Mary's Blood. She is a great metal shredder. She invited these other ladies to form a bit of an all-star band with her. If you want to really see her shred, check out music video of Mary's Blood's song "Marionette." She plays both the rhythm and lead parts on studio recordings with that band.
Just for the record - the video footage from their live stream was mixed with the audio from the studio version, so it's more like a music video. You can find the actual raw live version of this song in Tamu's drum cam video: ruclips.net/video/HvGAoxqYZ0w/видео.html
to me Nemophila has the musicality, groove and musical diverstiy that the other bands don't. Their songs are super hooky. Something that not a lot of Japanese bands get. JMO

This is one of their rock-style songs. The main riff shares a slight similarity with Band-Maid's "Youth", both which came out around the same time so neither influenced the other. Nemophila has a ton of great originals and covers. They're one of my top 3 favorite Japanese bands. Def check out Raitei and Dissension.
Building on your comments, they shred similarly to Lovebites and groove like Band-Maid. But when you check out Dissension or Oiran, you'll really find out they are their own thing.
I hadn't heard this song by Nemophila yet, so thank you! I like this band a lot more when the singer sings instead of screaming, but that is the case with all bands for me. I prefer singing over screaming. 5 Finger Death Punch is the only band that seems to blend the two well.,
Oooh... I'll say this. It'd see FFDP live again in a heartbeat, but I'm not a big fan of their subsequent albums. Great live show though. Have you listened to Killswitch Engage or Bullet For My Valentine? Great blend of singing and screaming.... If it's all scream it just gets old.
@@RyanMear I loved Killswitch with Howard. Don't listen to them without him, as I think the vocals are terrible. Listened to a few BFMV songs before, never really grabbed me. But I'll give them another try.

Coming from a huge Band-Maid fan, I was curious about the reactions to this band I've been seeing so I decided to watch them first time here. And let's be honest, the only thing this group has in common with Band-Maid is they are an all girl band. This group is ok, but miles away from Band-Maid IMO. (Please note the IMO before anyone rages at me, thanks)
Agreed. My reaction was no bullshit, I enjoyed it! But the connection the Maids have with each other is palpable. This seems like a group of talented people jamming and doing it well
Love the Maids but why do so many Maidiacs have to always spout on about the perceived superiority of their favorite band. I have loved Band Maid for years but the fan base is pretty toxic. Hell Band Maid is the one band I have to see live but damn quit comparing them to every other band.
@@tackle47 I agree with you completely, even though I probably could be considered guilty of that as well, at times. Band Maid just seems to engender some kind of rabid loyalty, and I think I know why. Rock and Metal aren't the same things. You can find great metal bands all over the place--there's tons of them. Great hard rock bands seem to be far fewer and farther in-between. I think it's why old classic rock fans like myself get so damn excited when they discover Band Maid. It truly does stir up something inside. A hopefulness that had been gone for years, even decades, that exceptional hard rock still exists. The Band Maid fanbase seems to be full of people with that same exact experience. We become protective of it, because we want it to succeed so badly! Plus, let's face it, some fans of other bands do the same. I try to always remember that they're playing different styles, and direct comparisons--especially about playing ability--are problematic at best. I frequently have to defend Kanami against the prejudiced view that other guitarists are better than her, simply because she's not playing 5 minute solos, and is not trying to show off her technical skills every time. It's not her style, or desire, to do so. That style of playing fits better into metal--it's pretty much expected--but not in BM's style of melodic rock.
@@interstellardave great post and agree with all your post has to say. Kanami always serves the song and is restrained in her solos. I also am a long time, 53 Hard Rock and Metal fan and totally agree about the lack of modern good hard rock.
They're actually more Band-Maid than Lovebites. If you listen to "Life", it's very much in the same vein as "Daydreaming" by Band-Maid, "Fighter" almost sounds like a mash-up of Band-Maid songs. They're heavier though (7-string guitars and 5-string bass will do that) and they're more aggressive (twin shredders and Mayu's intense vocals will do that), so I think a lot of people don't notice because they're so invested in putting bands into little boxes - as in, Band-Maid are Hard Rock and Nemophila are Heavy Metal, so therefore they must be completely different, but I think Nemophila are sort of like what Band-Maid might have been (although with a more metal edge) after World Domination if they'd followed the trajectory they seemed to be following since the beginning, which they didn't (not that there's anything wrong with that).
Yeah, you seem to be one of those fans who did not like Band-Maid's Conqueror sound. Even tho I preferred the heavier sounds of WD, I found the songwriting in Conqueror to be bold and utterly f'n amazing. Sure, the overall sound was "poppier" - but the creativity was mind-blowing to me (so overall I loved the "direction"). Nemo has an absurd amount of talent (they fall into the "super band" category (Band-Maid being more of a "garage" band)), and it will be fun to watch them release more of their own music (not a big fan of super groups doing covers). Their instrumental ceiling as a band is higher than Band-Maid's because of their absurd chops (I mean, one of Band-Maid's instrumentalists learned to play on the job), but in the end - at least for me - it's about songwriting. Both bands have enough chops to do just about anything they want to (esp Nemo if they wanted to go into power metal territory), but this is not why most people listen to music. The Beatles were middling instrumentalists as a band (and they couldn't even read music), but the songs they made were legendary.
uhh excuse me Sir, have you seen three fox kids around here? the Guitarist on the right Saki also very cherishing those kids. btw Saki and Dragonforce Frederic made Music videos together the band is called AMAHIRU. those kids made a pigtail on Frederic hair

Tamu's one bad ass drummer. I'd put her up there with Senri Kawaguchi as some of the best female drummers.
Very talented group. They work well together coming together from other groups. Impressive performance. Hail thee Eternal Heavy 🔥
They normally don't use keyboards prominently. You have to check out their Raitei and Dissension videos, awesome.
Agreed, those are my two fav original songs from them, however they also have a whole ton of amazing covers. Excited to see what they bring along this year 🤘🕊️
Raitei is definitely my favorite, this is a close second though.
Your in for a big surprise they can go pop right up to death metal and all kick ass .This is a Saki song right guitar as you look and she is to Anime if you want to see her shred take a look at this in her other band ruclips.net/video/MLM2unV0kwU/видео.html that's another shit hot band from japan
@@robertturner8040 Death metal is something I can't get into. It reminds me that I heard the growls/screams in another Nemophila song before and it turned me off of them. Glad I got another taste of their music, though, without it. If it's just some songs I can just not listen to those. No matter how great any band is when those kinds of vocals show up--male or female--it just kills my interest. I appreciate there's an art to it, but my ears don't like it. Only song I've heard that I like, like that, is Pisces by Jinger, but I think that's an outlier.
@@interstellardave Dissension is harsh but its only in sections like Jinger vocal fry scream and a bit in Oiran but its different again .Now there covers are a different thing altogether they are the best i have come across they dont stick to a style like a lot of japan bands they do what they like and then heavy it up a bit try this one its the theme from K-on Anime this is the lighter side to them Mayu pics the covers to do ruclips.net/video/EqSWOLsSj7Q/видео.html then there's there own song life as well where they play to the drummer to welcome her back .And Fighter as well thats got a 90s punk feel to it .
They can get into feels when appropriate for the song.
I love that you can’t even “slap the smile off your face”
The keyboard sounds are MIDI.
They are self-funded so some corners are cut.
I dont have a problem with it at all
Not again..my favorite band..oh Mayu😘
You fell down the Nemophila rabbit hole. You know you want to do another one... :)
I love this band !!
Just for the record - the video footage from their live stream was mixed with the audio from the studio version, so it's more like a music video.
You can find the actual raw live version of this song in Tamu's drum cam video: ruclips.net/video/HvGAoxqYZ0w/видео.html
Holy shit that is SO much better!! Tamu is a BEAST!!
to me Nemophila has the musicality, groove and musical diverstiy that the other bands don't. Their songs are super hooky. Something that not a lot of Japanese bands get. JMO
Saki is using BOSS pedals and other effect products. This includes a synth pedal SY-1.
Nemophila is the Band Maid of metal.
Band-Maid is the Band-Maid of metal.
Nemophila is the Nemophila of metal.
@@RyanMear
Band Maid is hard rock.
They repeatedly say they are not metal.
They pretty much donwhatever the hell they want, don't they?
@@RyanMear
They actually say they do whatever seems fun. 😂
Have you seen the video of them playing Higher Ground as a sound check?
Craziness.
There’s also a cell phone video of an impromptu rendition of Duality from their studio after their appearance at Knotfest was canceled due to COVID.
Whoa! I have to check that out!
You should totally check out more of them!
This is essentially a super band.
All the ladies are from other bands. They originally came together as a one time type session band.
Upon first listen, they really jumped up on my list of my favorite bands.
I cant wait for them to release more song.
my new favourite band 🤟🏼
They are good but bandmaid is still the gold standard!👍🎸❤
Because there's basically 3 Japanese bands I've listened to. BAND-MAID, Lovebites, and one Nemophila song. It's literally all I have to compare it to..... plus BM set a ridiculously high bar to reach, so it's just going to happen.
Quit with the dick measuring shit, they are all good and everyone has their own tastes.
"Dick measuring shit" and we're only talking about all female bands.... kinda funny.
@@RyanMear I found it funny myself
Good song overall, I liked it. It did feel like a collection of parts though, rather than a coherent whole.
Love it!! Try their MV Raitei next, it rocks so hard. Japanese women for the win!
This mix lovebites n band maid i think :)
Murata Tamu is a very famous drummer in Japan.
Just one more! You can stop any time! Nemophila still building their own play list. Their last livestream concert was shortish but awesome.
us AFTERSHOCK FESTIVAL 2022
I ask the same opinion-ative question about the keyboards, some one replied to me saying that it was Saki using a device with her guitar.
Could be, I think it's a backing track though, but that's speculation
Hey Ryan.. There’s an actual drum cam of Tamu playing this song.
Yes! I have seen it!

You will have so many playlists by the time you get done exploring this Japanese rock and metal scene. Just literally too many bands to list.
I loved going back and finding this first reaction, turns out they are pretty damn good huh 🤔?
"Oiran", "Fighter" and their cover of "Watashi Wa Arashi".
I got Oiran done... got to get the others
@@RyanMear , Live in Studio is the Best version. I'm a Lovebites and Band- Maid guy as well.
Song: Dissension.😈😈😈😈
I hadn't heard this song by Nemophila yet, so thank you! I like this band a lot more when the singer sings instead of screaming, but that is the case with all bands for me. I prefer singing over screaming. 5 Finger Death Punch is the only band that seems to blend the two well.,
Oooh... I'll say this. It'd see FFDP live again in a heartbeat, but I'm not a big fan of their subsequent albums. Great live show though.
Have you listened to Killswitch Engage or Bullet For My Valentine? Great blend of singing and screaming.... If it's all scream it just gets old.
Yeah...I'm not into guttural screams. I like her normal singing voice but the screams ruin the melody for me
@@RyanMear I loved Killswitch with Howard. Don't listen to them without him, as I think the vocals are terrible.
Listened to a few BFMV songs before, never really grabbed me. But I'll give them another try.
The gold standard for screaming and singing right now is Jinjer, not saying they are better but they are continuing to explode for a reason.
I loved Jesse era 1. Loved Howard era. Jesse era 2? Not a fan. I was so happy he was coming back, but then they took all the dynamics away...
Watch dissension by nemopholis. Baddas scream
Saki wrote this song.
Tamu génial drummer !
They may have something here. First time hearing them. If they indeed started in 2019. I feel they need a little time to cook. Good start though....
No Dissension, No Nemophila !
For your next Nemophila song i highly recommend Life. And solo effort by one of the Guitarist Saki, its a instrumental called Brightness.
I did Life already (great song) and I'm curious about Brightness
@@RyanMear This was the first reaction of yours I've seen so didnt know at the time you already did that one. The first time i saw / heard them was their cover of Detroit Rock City. Brightness is great. Top notch solo effort from Saki.
This is a GREAT song but, it is not their best. You are in for a real treat with these girls.
I'm almost sure Tamu ( the drummer ) triggers the keyboard track.😉
Right on
You love vocal fry scream? Maybe try Hanabie - We love sweets 🧁🌸🤘🎌
Welcome to the nemophila world

Oh, need to do Raitei, great song, music video, you get better mix on guitars. Live the guitars are bit low. Dissension is a banger. Fighter is great hard rock song. Raitei has some great solos. They usually don't use keys. They do it in backing tracks here, done bybDrummer Marata Tamu. She plays piano, keys as well. This is from a live stream virtual concert early in year, and last august. Love Nemophila, Nemo, Band Maid, and Lovebites are incredible.
Hey made over here for this reaction awesome buuutttt I have something you mightbe interested in another all female rock band from Japan this is a group called bridear the song thread of the light is a live song and to me its straight up rock and roll check them out be warned they are really good not band maid good because nobody is that good but close be well
Try LOVEBITES it's madness
Saki is So WhiteSnake to me... and others of course... Doug and Reb!!! 🤘❤🤘
🔊🤘😁🤘
Hi, react to Show-ya 1 band female to Heavy Metal Japanese, lovers, Fairy, look at me, etc
Yes! Show-Ya inspired the girls' drive into heavy rock and metal in Japan for the past 40 years that has given us so many great bands. Still going, and hosting the annual all female artists rock festival "Naon No Yaon."
Yes raitei would be a good one next!!! This is a great super band!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥 you need to get back to the Japanese hickeys!! Lovebites they get to 88mph your gonna see some serious 💩!!! Jump on the lovebites frieght train!!and hang on to nemophila!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🍻👍
Haraguchi-san Haraguchi-san Haraguchi-san! Soooooooooooooo glad this song was NOT my intro to Nemophila Did NOT like it at all (hate overpowering Synth).
女の子は先に行く!!!
"Not too much on the feeling, though." Couldn't disagree more...
Hey, it's one song, maybe I'll change my mind after more.
@@RyanMear Try the song Life. Plenty of feeling with that one.
Look at you guys being all civil.... nice😉
I've heard one song so far, I could only comment on that. More to come
Yeah, you seem to be one of those fans who did not like Band-Maid's Conqueror sound.
What I've reacted to is what I've heard
@@RyanMear I was actually just commenting on satomiwa's remark. Love your reactions, can't wait for the next (esp the Band-Maid ones lol). :)
Nice job. One time listen. Don't need to hear it again. Forgettable.
