    Amazing! Love the design engineering. I built a 3D printed Ercoupe. It was so thin and fragile. It flew okay on the maiden, but when I came in to land I was offside of the runway and hit a weed. The model crumbled. That was my first and last 3D printed airplane.

    Cool video!! Love your work! My only two things that I saw were 1) I loathe grub screws on main control surfaces, e.g- Elevator and Ailerons. I know some people swear by them but that is just my opinion. 2) Slightly heavier bands holding the wings on. And always put more on than you think it needs.

    Nicely done, although it’s a little concerning to have your stab held on by a single magnet and micro servos on a nitro is unusual - then again 3d printed nitro is too…I wish you many happy landings. I love the idea of using an ultra modern technology to create something nostalgic

    Better hope you never lean the engine out to much, it will get hot enough to melt the engine mounts, could be a very bad day....also, i couldnt trust tiny servos on a any of the nitro aircraft I have flown, they could run the throttle, but could not keep the elevator working the way I fly..And I dont think their vibration rated, they could glitch easily.. I would say you could get away with it for a few flights but a crash would soon occur

    • @Kendin-Yap
      @Kendin-Yap  Год назад

      I understand your concerns. But I've been building and using Nitro powered models for about 35 years. (I share videos of simple and entry-level model airplanes on my channel). The motor bearing was printed with ASA filament. And it withstands up to 110°. Engine mounts never reach 110° . Maximum 60-80 streams. This is a small engine (.25) . It has very little vibration. And the model is also small. (wingspan 130cm). In other words, a micro servo with high quality and metal gears is sufficient. So far, I have performed about 25 sorties with this model.

  • @k.o.0
    @k.o.0 Год назад

    Nice build but the question is how long will it hold up after the nitro from the exhaust hits the wing and fuselage? Interested he see after how many flights it will structurally fail? I used to use epoxy spray paint back in the day for nitro projects on silk skins but not sure how that solvent would play with PLA, LW-PLA or PETG.

    • @Kendin-Yap
      @Kendin-Yap  Год назад

      I ran tests on a part (Painted LW-PLA) before making the model. For approximately 2 weeks. No problem occurred. But will there be a problem for much longer periods of time? I do not know.

    • @shawndubay4050
      @shawndubay4050 Год назад

      @@Kendin-Yap I would think it would be ok as long as the exhaust oils are cleaned up after each flight. I have a balsa airframe with monocote heat shrink covering that is much thinner and have had no problems with the exhaust spray. I clean up the oils after each flight and it has lasted years. It is a Piper J-3 cub. Would love to have a 3D rc though. Just like that one. Maybe a biplane. Biplanes are pretty cool and can pull off amazing maneuvers.

    What 3d printing material did you use? And also how did it manage with the heat of the engine?
    I'm planning on making a RC car powered with a gasoline 4 stroke engine, and I'm kind of hesitant of making a 3D printed body for it as I'm afraid it will severly warp due to the heat of the engine.

      The motor bearing, which directly contacts the motor, is ASA filament. (Heat resistance approximately 100-110°C). Other parts are LW-PLA. For the car, ABS or ASA can be used in the engine part and PLA and PETG can be used in other parts.

      @@Kendin-Yap Thank you for the fast reply!
      I'll most likely wont have any parts directly contacting the motor that are 3D printed :)
