Maybe the ions or whatever the fuck is in the atmosphere have become malevolent and are automatically fucking up all sound balances. I started noticing it first about ten years ago in films. You'd get the sound at a good level for dialogue and then the goddam music bursts in at apocalyptic levels. This video is yet another recent example.
